Gotta agree about the Sam thing, he came out of nowhere even though in UC3 he clearly DIDNT have a brother, it would have made al ot more sence if he was either adopted or a very close freind.

This was a bit of an unpopular opinion back in the day but I fully agree. U4 was also the first time I noticed the imprint of Neil Druckmann's writing style and how he was all telling and no showing, that's why the game feels too tedious especially compared to previous Uncharted games.

Finally, the truth had been spoken. One thing that bothered me for the most is Naughty Dog's toxic fanboys who offended anyone that pointed out the flaws. It was just like you said -- "can-do-no-wrong"-ism.

The reason why uncharted 4 felt like Last of us at some points is because it was written and directed by the same guy. Amy Hennig wasn't with naughty Dog to direct or write it and they got neil druckmann to do it. I love Last of Us but druckmann's style of gaming doesn't work in this game.

Loved this game the 1st time I played it. Looking back at it, it is actually very boring. There were few parts in the game that had some good pacing but would later return to a bit of a crawl and slowly work its way back up.

For a 2016 video, you seemed to know exactly what was wrong with Naughty Dog. For most parts in these games, the characters seem to do their own thing and I would just sit watching. This is not playing, this is watching.

I agree with everything. The game looks stunning, the animations are great, locations are well crafted. But is just soooooo boring. I was playing it just to finally play some interesting section and there were just a few moments that made me continue. Near the end of the game, I could not wait to finish the game because I just gave up on finding some entertaiment in it. I agree that GoW looks like TLoU, but it just so much better!

Uncharted series is the type of games that you can watch play through on RU-vid and it wouldn't change your experience as when you play it yourself.

Uncharted 4 is a huge disappointed for me also. I expected it to at leased match the quality of Uncharted 3, or at leased deliver on the content. It did none of that. I'd say its better than uncharted 1, but below Uncharted 3, 2 and golden abyss. Uncharted 3 remains my favourite Uncharted game.

I can predict everything that's happens in this game I never get surprised, I see a old wooden bridge and the game wants me to drive over it, guess what the bridge breaks and u fall wow definitely was expecting that

Uncharted was never good. Jittery, floaty, overly scripted combat. A subpar shooting system and a paint by numbers climbing mechanic. The dialog ranged from mediocre to ok. The acting was incredible, above any other western game at the time. It felt like the best of 90s tv made better. Set peices looked great but that's all they were, set pieces. Asura's wrath, a Qte heavy game has better combat than uncharted. Part 4 started losing what actually made the other games fun. Even with those flaws, I had a blast playing uncharted 1-3 and the vita game. 4 really annoyed me. Nadeen was stupid. All that build up for a boss fight that never happens. Because you can't beat up a wahmyn data da bestes evar.

I dont undertand why the brother lies to Drake. If he had just said to Drake that he needed help, because he did something wrong, and had people wanting him dead, would Drake refuse to help and let him die alone? I just couldnt buy that "you lied to me" thing of the story, cause it feels unnecessary.

Happy to feel less lonely in this. I doodled with the game with my two daughters watching. They were impressed by the graphics, asked a bunch of questions on wether these were real actors and bla bla... We played the first three or four chapters chatting and watching and I had a good time. I thought the game was ok but didn't go further because I wanted to keep the full experience for a two player play with a friend. My friend came and I launched a new game. My god. No rhythm, boring story, tunnel vision and corridor gameplay. On top of it, within 2 hours, he said "Assassin's Creed" 20 times. The pieces don't even fit together. "Realistic characters" like the scene at home where they play Crash Bandicoot don't match with the deus ex machina return of the brother. The tone is all over the place. The gameplay is non existent. Push triangle to continue. My oh my.

The first uncharted will forever be my favorite game, when I was 12 every Friday after school me and my dad would play all day every day, and then we got 2 and 3 which were also amazing, and then we was excited for a thief’s end and it really let us down, it began to feel like a drag and you just wanted to get to the fight scenes and end it.

This hits harder now in 2022, most games are just cutscene after cutscene, i heard the new GOW ragnarock has like 2.5h of cutscenes in its first 5h of "gameplay"...im replaying this game on PC right now and its a beautiful game with about 6 hours of cutscenes, 2h of walking around and 3h of actualy shooting/gameplay..i wont lie, i liked it the first time around, but a replay is not rly fun and most naughty dog games that came after fall into the same cinematic trap, they are not interactive enough.

Whole uncharted series is more like cgi with controls than a proper game with freedom. you have limited options in gameplay.

i literally finished uncharted 4 today and oh my god, i knew i felt something weirdly familiar when playing it and you saying it plays like the last of us, is so fucking true, throughout the game especially when it came to those crate climbing and swimming sections. i do agree that naughty dog has become pretentious, but i will say i enjoyed this game much more than the last of us, but even then it was just an okay game. kinda sad too because i felt the series taking a downturn when 3 came out and now 4 set that bar lowerer. i have yet to play lost legacy, but i will see just how that game lives up to the uncharted name.

How do you even fuck up Uncharted? The formula in first 3 games were simple - you have the quest, the hero, his mentor, damsel in distress, main villain, secondary villain and a lot of guns and explosives. Want to make a fun Uncharted game? Just repeat the same formula and put in more guns, explosions and action sequences!

Finally, a video that I could relate to regarding Uncharted 4. It doesn't have the pacing of classic Uncharted and it has lost it's charm. The fast pace and constant action is what made classic Uncharted so great. The open world/walking simulator element kills this game.

Uncharted 4 missed Amy Hennigs story telling. The only good bits I enjoyed was actually her contributions before she left ahaha. All the ideas that were alien and shite I found out were Neil. SHOCKER...

Having revisited U4 again recently I didn't enjoy it as much. Visually it's stunning but its too much of a Hollywood movie than gameplay. And when you do encounter enemies it isn't as long enough. It seems like you spend most of your time either in a cutscene or climbing than actually shooting and stealth killing

just played the fourth game this week and the ending battle was disappointing. Nate’s brother was useless all the way through and I hated his presence. I found it undesirable to even play it again. This is probably due to the extent of the same bullsh+t happening too many times throughout the game, such as getting fed up with the huge maps, and wanting to move on. At one point I was so tired of the amount of soldiers we fought that I stopped enjoying the “treasure hunt” aspects of the game, which I actually would look forward to in the previous games. There are also a lot of “explorative areas” in the game, which I understand are there to make realistic spaces and submerge you, but it was just so extensive that the amount of caves/corners I’d walk or climb/crawl into only to find no way out/no treasure was just a pain in the ass. The director(s) (Neil Druckman) really overused the whole trope of “ooops the cliff is gonna crumble riiight when Nate gets a grasp on it/ the bridge is gonna crack right when you step on it. Midway through the gameplay I just kept expecting it to happen and it no longer surprised me, and became annoying rather than interesting. Other things were annoying too, such as the introduction of the “rock climbing pick” tool, it was a nuisance and was pointless. It made me hate climbing in this game as it overdid the amount of climbing/tools for climbing. I also hated how Sam was thrown into the story just to be a liar, and the druglord story was made up, whereas it was at first making the story exciting at that point. When it is revealed he lied, it made me go from disliking Sam for being a big mouth to disliking Sam for being a liar, bigmouth, and plot device. The Elena and Nate drama near the ending chapters was so cheesy. I enjoyed how they added features to the gameplay element of “sneak/stealth attacks”, but it was hilarious to see it was flawed as well. At moments I would guide my character RIGHT under the nose of these soldiers/guards and they wouldn’t notice (I played on moderate), for example even Elena jumped in the water right in front of one of the soldiers and they still didn’t detect her which was hilarious. I understand WHY the NPCs would only be able to detect the main character (Drake), but any immersion there was greatly affected. Overall it was the amount of cinematics that built it up to a disappointing climax (pirate ship fight/lame conflict). At first I enjoyed the cinematics but was getting bored with the drama by the end. There were a few missed opportunities, especially with the storyline of Catholic symbolism/pirates. They didn’t tie it all together too well by the end. All of those beautiful scenes, landscapes, and yet they didn’t do anything cool with that awesome mountain for example? meh

I pretty much agree with most of this video. Beautiful looking game but it felt drawn out and a little boring after the other action-focused Uncharted games. I also disliked Sam as a character, and even Elena had this irritating ‘sad’ vibe going on which grated on me.

I agree with everything you said here, which is why I think Uncharted The Lost Legacy is a much better game overall, despite its short length that killed many of its potentials. They even upgraded the convoy chase by a considerable margin, and that was already excellent in Uncharted 4, and probably one of the very few stellar moments in Uncharted 4. The possibility of getting a varying array of weapons in The Lost Legacy is appreciated too, and its maps commodate the dynamic stealth system much better imo. I believe when it comes to gameplay first, the only great first party titles this gen from Sony are God of War and Bloodborne, though Persona 5 is fantastic too, but it's not a first-party game.

the game is not paced very well especially when you replay it, but when there is combat I have to say I have almost never played a third person shooter where the guns feel better than in this one, the conbat is super fun for me on normal where you can go crazy but I even very much enjoyed a careful challenging playthrough on crushing. You can do a lot of cool stuff in the combat hell you even have a grapple hook, there is too much climbing though for sure. MAny say the combat is just a boring cover shooter but this game gives you lots of options run and gun grapple, melee, stealth, if you just sit behind cover until everyone is dead that'S on you not the game. The story is great on a first playthrough. Sometimes I will even boot up single encounters which you can in the menu and replay combat sections for a few hours and it'S super fun, great game overall.

Uncharted 4 is one of the only games I can think of that, going in, I expected next to nothing because the whole premise of the game seemed linear and limiting. What I got, on the other hand, was one of the best story telling experiences that I have ever encountered in gaming, and I have played a shit ton of gaming. Uncharted 4 combines excellent combat, unparalleled graphics and voice acting, and a large variety of dynamic environments, gameplay and storytelling methods: you never get bored playing this game. There are no fetch quests, no endless mobs of enemies, none of the filler bullshit that stretches what should have been 8 hour experiences into the bloated 30+ hour games that currently flood the market. You never really see the same thing twice, which is made even more impressive by the phenomenal quick save and loading system that U4 uses. After the initial load of the game, YOU DONT EXPERIENCE LOADING SCREENS. This, almost more than anything else, is what other producers should focus on. If you fall off of a cliff, there’s no thirty second loading screen...you’re just standing right back where you were with only a half second delay. You die in a firefight? Same thing. All while putting out some truly unparalleled visuals, especially for its time. In summary: No. To look at this game and make the claim that it’s “not a good game” shows an excess of ignorance on the creators part. I understand not enjoying a game that everyone else loves: I personally did not find the new God of War enjoyable at all. I have tried playing the game a few times now and currently own it and it just...does nothing for me. Even so, I recognize that the core gameplay, graphics, voice acting, story: everything is sound. Even though I don’t enjoy the game, I still believe that God of War is an amazing game because of the sheer amount of quality that permeates the experience, and the same can be said for Uncharted 4 regardless of your dislike of popular things.

The scuba diving job simulator, the gone home level at nate's house with the wife constantly bitching, chauffeuring Sully and the gang in a jeep on an Africa safari, or in a boat, etc. YO WHAT THE FUCK? I come home from work and want to play something exciting, not something boring I can experience in real life. And there's so much dialogue, I feel like I'm watching a Kojima game. Yep. Uncharted 4 was a massive, and I mean MASSIVE let down. I don't know what happened, but nearly everything in this game just feels bare bones or a re-tread of things we've seen done in Uncharted before. Even the best set piece of the game, the car chase, is basically another version of the car chase from Uncharted 2, just with the addition of a few new gameplay mechanics. To me, Uncharted 4 just lacks so much of the personality and style the last games had in stuff like the voice acting, gameplay, story, and music (and by god did they butcher the soundtrack for this game when you compare it to the last games). Anyways I'm glad u called it like it is, and I hope some fanboys come to the realization of how underwhelming this title was.

Bought a PS4, got this game as my first game, then others like Yakuza 0, Persona 5, Bloodborne, and Ratchet and Clank, the 4th game is......so painfully boring, i like some of the levels but omfg.....the entire game is such a slog, I thought Gears of War 4 was a bit disappointing because it does the same as the 3rd game but after playing Uncharted 4, im glad Gears 4 wasn't so damn boring compared to the 4th game, I loved the story, graphics and such, but the gameplay is very average......*sigh

Uncharted 4 didn't feel Uncharted enough. It has more in common with the first Uncharted than with 2 & 3. Ask anyone and they'll say Uncharted 1 was their least favorite of the series. It was important to get the series started but quite boring compared to 2 & 3. Even Uncharted 4's best and most memorable set piece and sequence is majorly flawed. The jeep handling model works in slow paced Madagascar but not it a downhill race through narrow streets while avoiding an armored truck shooting at you. They should have changed the handling to be more responsive and less laggy in this section. Second, the truck convoy section that follows is just plain old and tired. It's the same convoy mission we've played in Uncharted 2 and 3 but with controllable jeeps and a rope. Come on Naugthy Dog, think outside the box! Gone are the thrills of the train mission, and the collapsing hotel from UC2 and the cruise ship, falling airplane, and desert sequences from UC3.

Omg I just finished playing this game, it was boring. Loads of climbing, action set pieces were no way near the last 3, the action sequences were copied from 2 and 3, the car chase and the burning building. The final boss fight was boring as hell, the puzzles were annoying.

Its funny because I remember enjoying the experience of playing this game yet somehow i have never had the slightest urge to replay it. (Ive replayed the other 3 games countless times each.) I cant even blame it on the story focus, because i also replayed The Last Of Us many times. For me, it was a lot of the stuff you described, but I think the game also left a bad taste in my mouth about the characters and where the story took them. I found Sam to be unlikable, Nate to be an unforgivable husband, Elena to be a doormat, and the ending to be uncomfortably "status quo" with everyone happy, alive, and forgiven because...i dont know?

Great thoughts on this game. I finished it recently and oof was this video spot on. I hate walking/ climbing simulator moments in games. And that's all this game seemed to be. sure it had a few moments, but overall it was just walk around look at a 3d model of an artifact for no reason. The Tomb Raider reboot games while not perfect far outclassed this game. Oh and the comments section of this video is pretty hilarious. I mean why are people STILL being triggered by an old video? lol Just friendly advice don't get so worked up over someone having a different opinion from you. You'll have a much better life if you do that.

I personally think that combat in this game is inferior to the other games. Mostly because the enemy variation on this U4 is pretty poor, because it's just like the same or even smaller than in previous games. If you played the previous games you already fought enemies with shields, shotguns, granade launchers, and more many times. In U4, when the enemy variation starts to appear with these kind of enemies instead of the regular guys with simple pistols or machine guns, it's already too late in the game! The enemy variation starts in half of the game, and by enemy variation, I mean the same guys that were already the same from previous games, just appearing too late in U4. Add that to the fact that you cannot throw back granades to enemies, that was a super fun thing to do in previous games, and the rope that you can use only in certain points, and you have a disappointing combat that is just at the same level of previous games, but never memorable because you have already played the same thing too many times before. I can also say that the lack of supernatural enemies like in all previous games doesn't help the lack of interesting or new enemies in the game too. Also, the cover system just shows how bad the enemy AI is in this game. Even when enemies spot you they dont go to the place, they just stand at the same place looking from the distance, it's really stupid. Also, there's really no point in having a cover system and don't having the option to throw a rock, make some noise to attract an enemy or even have a single silent weapon as a bow or a crossbow. It really feels limitated and dated, specially after playing the recent Tomb Raider games.

agreed. the problem with naughty dog is theyre making games that are essentially wannabe movies with interactive elements. the last of us is a good example. it was basically a "lone wolf and cub" story thats been overdone in literature and cinema transplanted to postapocalypse complete with really looooooooong cutscenes and repetitive gameplay when you actually get to play and not watch :P

I watched this review a long time ago and didn't think much of it then, but after watching the gaming industry for a while, I think you actually hit the nail on the head with this review. Of course, I also have problems with this games story and the logic it uses and that applies to 2 and 3, 1 was my favorite, because it was the most logical and simplistic, not to say that the others have to be like that to be good, but I feel the later games tried and failed to raise the stakes and tell a deeper story in a logical way. I still laugh at the idea of Nathan blowing up half a train and fighting a literal army just to try and have a conversation with...that lady...(forgot name) and then he tries to casually leave, then gets mortally wounded by a single bullet, lol Also, Rafe did nothing wrong, Nathan drove him to insanity and then killed him...some hero.

I completed 1-3 and picked up 4 in this week's free playstation plus game. I agree with you on the platforming aspect of things. I stopped around chapter 7 as the platforming is just mind-numbingly boring. The ledges falling and destructible holds get really tedious really quickly and every time it happens, it just adds +10 seconds on to your progress. Why would the game so aggressively hinder your progress in the most uninteresting of ways? The game also makes really boring tasks even more boring, like 'go and grab this crate' then 'press triangle', then 'move it as slowly as you can to where it needs to go' then 'mash triangle even more to open a door for the 100th time'. These little 'inconveniences' do nothing to push the story forward but instead completely derail the momentum of the story to the point that I have now quit. When it works it works very well, but this gameplay is mostly not fun.

One thing I'd like to note is the chase scene in U4 doesn't actually cover the amount of ground you alluded to - it's actually a long infinite set that loops back into itself; I believe they first did this in U3 with the mountain chase. Uncharted is actually my favourite video game series, so I was incredibly hyped for the game. Upon finishing it for the first time, I really enjoyed it. But as I replayed the game a few more times, the flaws and plot holes started to show, and I couldn't deny that the game was really not that good after all. I have been a ND fan since Jak&Daxter days and have adored the Uncharted series since the first one, but U4 is a huge disappointment to me. Drag of a story, asspulled brother, can't throw back grenades, I don't give a damn about Nate's marital problems, Rafe is 🖓, every flashback put me to sleep (especially walking around in that lady's cluttered ass house), the most action-packed moment in the game was something we've ALREADY done in the PREVIOUS games...ugh, the praise U4 gets is mind boggling. I would put it as my least favorite after the U1 because, at least, I didn't feel a strong sense of disappointment when the credits rolled after beating the latter.😧 I will say though that Uncharted Lost Legacy DOES look promising, but because of this game I'm renting beforehand.😅

Just mad you didn't mention how there was no supernatural elements like all the others and is pretty boring. The way they just like, found the treasure. And then lost it again. Then swam away. And like everything is whatever or whatever I guess.
