The weird thing is this actually made sense. Zuko had to look within himself (to find out his origins and ties to Avatar Roku) to save himself from his otherself (that is Ozai's son the Zuko that tried to capture the Avatar). Only then his true self (the firelord that ended the war and restored peace to the world) would reveal itself. It's these small details that make ATLA the greatest show of all time.

This quote really helped me during a bad time of my life. I felt lost and confused and not too sure what I wanted to do with my life. I always loved this quote, so I actually decided to follow Iroh's advice. I am now currently working at UCLA and in the process of writing a graphic novel. Philosophically speaking, that’s not false. There is a psychological theory, the Persona and Shadow- the Mask, and the True Face beneath. By searching within, one can begin to separate what is truly “you” and what you have set up to defend yourself from the day-to-day world, though you may not like what you find. By finding the balance between your Shadow and your Persona, you can begin to grow as a person. You must look inside yourself to save your self from your other self; only then will your true self reveal itself.

It is one of pain and desperation. He doesn’t care whether it’s in the capital of the Fire Nation or in the lowest slums, he does not want to lose another child. Regardless of his parentage Iroh really sees Zuko as a son.

I was hoping they would put this one. This was one of my favorite scene/dialogue between Iroh and Zuko. The other two was when Iroh cried in the jail after Zuko left (thinking that Zuko really had lost his way), and the other when Iroh taught Zuko about the four nations' wisdom.

yeah I think it was mostly humor but thinking about it is sad. All the comics related to Azula basically explains that she was a psychopath or something similar. Zuko tried to help her recover from her trauma like he did. I don't think it worked and she was one of the worst tragedy in Avatar in my opinion. Zuko is lucky he had someone like Iroh, Azula had no one.

The difference between them is that knowledge is knowing how to do something or how it happened and so on, wisdom is knowing when or where to apply that knowledge. No joke, #11 changed the course of my life. I started becoming more humble. Suddenly everyone's been a lot nicer and it's easier to ask for help. Iroh literally changed me.

It's amazing what a huge impact that one small change in lifestyle can have, eh? Glad you took it to heart. Being humble or polite might not always get you what you want, but in general you'll be a happier person for it, and others will normally be more willing to be helpful in turn. That's why I'll never understand a narcissist. They grip something(or someone) tighter and tighter and in the end, time and time again, they lose what they're trying to hold on to. Yet they never learn from this and only try to grip the Next Thing even tighter.)

@@WorldWalker128 My understanding is that Narcissists think highly of themselves, believing it equals confidence. But as I learned, it only makes you more insecure about what others think of you.

Culture shapes us, and every kind of cuture will leave it's marks on us. But it's quotes like this one, that truly change the shape of our character. I'm glat to live in a time and place, where I have acces to great works like atla. In spite of everything that sucks right now.

I know, I'm having a similar problem and this wisdom helps. I've always been unhappy and part of it is because I've set unrealistic standards for myself. Did you have problems trying to change your mentality, or was is instant. Because I'm trying to live by Iroh's words, and am having trouble executing.
