Oh my, my, Greg. You are indeed the best audiobook reader on RU-vid! This part two was so exciting that at first try of listening, I finished it, without falling asleep first! Great story and better yet, great acting and delivery of the story. Hats off to you, sir!🤩🤩

This was an intriguing story! I read a review on Agatha Christie’s “Crooked House,” and was fascinated to learn about how late 19th / early 20th century fiction reflected the contemporaneous views on ‘nature vs nurture.’ It seems the opinion of the time came almost exclusively down in favor of nature. This point of view shines a light on many of the literary villains of the time. I’m now recognizing it in the works of writers other than Christie. This story by ACD is a great example. Thank you for your masterful narration!

I've read so much Holmes, and heard Mr. Wagland reading so much ACD that I've now got quite good at predicting the denouements of these little adventures. Far from detracting from my enjoyment, this has increased it. TYVM, Greg.

Fantastic classic ACD tale! It offers a glimpse into the society of 19th century England...and also what they found amusing in their literature. Not like today's tales and certainly not to be judged as such, but at least it is honest enough to call itself fiction. It presents a gripping story with twists and turns of plot and characters with satisfying ending. Whether ACD's writings reflect the prejudices of the people at the time I can't begin to guess, but I suspect they do. That gives an opportunity to travel back in time, kind of like Agatha Christie's writings.

Did Conan Doyle write this for Adults? The characters, the plot, the 'religion' were totally unbelievable. The last part was particularly painful. Eg Miss Warrender had pointed out to Mr. Lawrence the thick limb of an oak tree where someone cld hide, drop on a victim and kill him. Mr Lawrence, expecting a murder, saw the tree and the secty, saw someone moving along the limb, yet still oblivious to what wld happen! He just stood and watched the murder. Murderers escape, no concern/investigation of victims etc.

It's astonishing to see how uninformed and prejudiced Conan Doyle was, seeing as he was a man of "science". Seven hears of medical college apparently didn't instill any habits of rigorous research in him. He probably leafed through W. Sleeman's reports, and then let his imagination and Victorian bias system run riot with the plot details, his real agenda being to thrill. "Heathen hindoos" rejoicing in the muslim name of Ahmed Gengis ...

@@soulinabody3791 But if he did not put all of these prejudices down on paper, how many of us would have even a vague notion of how the Victorians thought today?
