This time I decided to change things a bit and react to a video that is slightly different from a regular cooking video. If you listen carefully, this may even help you save some money after all the holidays' expenses. However, use these tricks very carefully, as they may cost you something other than money!

Hey everyone, sorry about the audio sync issue, it was working fine during this mornings premiere. I'm hope it's just a RU-vid issue, I am reviewing this now and if needed I will re-upload. I've been having issues with this episode ever since I uploaded it between copyright claim, my appeal for fair use getting rejected even after I trim the clip they are claiming. Hope to have this sorted soon

I wouldn't talk back, I'd make something for myself. As someone with very sensitive sense of smell and taste, I started cooking for myself around the age of 5-6, every time my mother made something I didn't want to eat. I've never been entitled enough to demand food I like. I always made something myself, even as a kid. Since my school was about 100 meters from our home and I couldn't stand school cafeteria food. From 5th-6th grade onward I just walked home and cooked lunch for myself every school day.

I agree. My mom did many similar things under the guise that she was being "thrifty". In reality, she just couldn't handle the idea anyone in our home would be doing anything independently from her. After my dad nearly had a heart attack and had such terrible, chronic acid reflux disease his doctor told him he would die unless he changes the way he ate, he told my mother she wasn't allowed to cook for him anymore. He made all his own food. He got his health under control. It was really hard for my mom and they had to go to marriage counseling over it. I learned a lot about food safety and cooking after I left home, so I could use the "food is fuel" mantra to feed my family. But some people cannot reconcile thier feelings about food and thier relationships with people. My mother still believes she's a good cook and feels very hurt when you don't want to eat what she makes, or have her help. It's too bad. I think it's called "narcissistic injury"; when the perfect image of the narcissist has of themselves is shattered or even slightly bumped.

@opalyasu7159
@opalyasu7159 Год назад
I'm not a pro chef, just a woman with a big appetite, but the whole pasta scene radiates pure "no" energy. I bet she doesn't even have/use a fridge. If she did, she could buy a lot of fresh fruit and meat and not worry about "wasting" it, aka letting it spoil. From personal experience, I left a kiwi out at room temp and it started getting squishy within a couple days, but they can last for up to a week or so in the fridge TLDR: She's being hypocritical by saying she's saving money and yet she's making her and her family sick and might have to pay for doctor visits
@CidVeldoril
@CidVeldoril Год назад
Depending on country and jurisdiction what she did with "not paying for the peels or vines" could be illegal. Supermarkets make the price the way it is by the pound and they also pay by the pound. In Germany, she could very well be locked up. I mean, she would be locked up for child abuse too, but this is a whole different tragedy.

I understand that a lot of this was staged. A woman in a different episode who did a blog on how to save money was asked to have her family use newspaper instead of toilet paper, which they do not do. So probably most of this is NOT real. EDIT: oh, yeah, I remember Joe Exotic used to get expired meat from Walmart and his employees could pick from it and the rest he fed to the tigers. The tigers were horribly malnourished and sick and had severe dental trouble. Happily, they are now at a wildlife sanctuary in Colorado with acres for them to roam and excellent medical care, but the point is, do not eat expired meat. Especially poultry or seafood. Throw that stuff out! The pennies you save will be nothing compared to your night in the ER.

@farrex0 Год назад
While it is obviously fake, I do not doubt some people have actually tried doing some of these things, in an attempt to save money... but they couldn't do it for long, because some of these are extremely dangerous. I have certainly done the not using light at my house thing, lightbulb broke one day, and did not replace it for months, thought I was saving money.... but after some time, I realized it wasn't worth it. However, the food related "hacks" shown here.... I would never even try them, not even if i got paid for it. Some of these can be deadly.
@Gamemaster-64

Better be staged at some parts as she should be kicked and banned from the grocery store for that grape picking and the banana part(not the peeling since she buying it but the breaking of the bunch)
@jcohasset23
@jcohasset23 Год назад
Regarding Joe Exotic and the big cats the biggest issue with that meat is much of it is fattier than is healthy for those animals to be eating. Over time those animals develop health issues similar to what humans do with poor diets. In the wild most meat is quite lean and that's why until the horse slaughter plants were shut down here in the US around 2007 horse meat was a commonly used meat at zoos and wildlife parks that was relatively cheap (much cheaper than something like bison or low fat cuts of beef). Regarding the meat past the best buy/use by date if it's been properly stored in a fridge or freezer the entire time it's usually okay but as I remember from the show they just used an open top trailer so depending how far away their supplier was that's a lot of time at room temperature, especially in Oklahoma summers. But yeah too much of this feels like it was staged with the primary purpose being entertainment or shock value. If it was real there would be more useful tips (even if Chef Brian did skip over a bunch of the non-food stuff) as a lot of what she's doing isn't saving money or time.

I mentioned in Uncle Roger's video, she appears to be using $5 of aluminum foil to save $0.30 of gas. And I noticed she was using new foil, too; I'm not sure if it would be reusable, considering the way it tends to get brittle and tear. Also, that might actually work in an industrial dishwasher. I used to work with one, and it got too 180F to sterilize the dishes. Dishwashers are actually very efficient. It's generally more efficient to use a dishwasher than to wash dishes by hand, because they do most of the washing with a very small amount of water that gets reused throughout the cycle.

Lint burns VERY well! Number 3 or 4(IIRC) cause of house fires! It's great to keep around to start campfires, if you mix it with wax it'll burn a LONG time! Not a recommendation, but for shits and giggles, I HAVE cooked over a lint/wax 'puck'... I've also tried doing fish in a dishwasher...factory vacuum sealed, and seared the skin after with a blowtorch. THAT was really good! To be fair, this was before home sous vide machines were readily available, and it was a hi-temp dishwasher that actually took it to its cooking temp.

One thing to add to your explanation on food borne illnesses -- Although boiling does kill bacteria (but not spores), the exotoxins and endotoxins will still remain. So each time you cool it (slowly) and the bacteria multiply, you get more endo/exotoxins. These are what can cause really nasty illness/diarrhea. So, although boiling will eliminate active infection (e. coli, salmonella), you can still have a semi-transient (few days) illness cause by the heat-resistant toxins the bacteria previously made (before boiling) while thriving in the fridge each time.

Actually something I'd be interested to hear your take on is the concept of a "perpetual stew". I'm sure you are probably familiar with concept but I don't see how that could be safe, considering the vessel the stew is made in doesn't get cleaned between replenishing and it also uses meat. I grew up with a parent who is a chef and the first things I learned about were food safety and cross contamination. What she is doing is nightmarish.

I think he did talk a bit about perpetual stew in one of his videos if memory serves, although I don't remember what his take on it was.
@Puzzlesocks
@Puzzlesocks Год назад
Perpetual stew is fine as long as it's always kept on the heat. The places famous for perpetual stew keep it on the fire basically 24/7 from what I remember, thereby keeping it above the danger zone and safe to eat. This is a little different than say a certain high end grocer I worked at that just constantly added new bags of soup in whenever it got low instead of starting with a new pot. That soup got chilled every night and reheated every morning, and because time in the danger zone is cumulative, it will go bad over time.

The grocery store stuff I don’t think is as dramatized as you’d think. When I was a cashier, I had people bring grapes off the vine and peeled bananas and de-stemmed jalapeños up to the register all the time. And they loved talking about how much it saved them to do it. For grapes, maybe, grapes are expensive where I’m at. For bananas and jalapeños, it was, like, maybe a cent that they saved.
@erinlikesacornishpasty4703
@erinlikesacornishpasty4703 Год назад
Except those things all start to spoil within a few hours once you do that. The grapes especially would get wierd on the drive home. It's not money saving at all. And they're robbing from someone else who grabs the half picked through bag. It's dumb.
@jcohasset23
@jcohasset23 Год назад
@@erinlikesacornishpasty4703 Yeah that's really the problem with doing stuff like this. It may add a small amount of weight but skins and stems protect the fruit and provide it with some nutrients so it lasts longer. Like you said removing all that stuff really shortens the lifespan of fruit and vegetables so I doubt much of it is still good after a day or so. She's likely spending more in gas and vehicle maintenance than she's saving since it would mean having to drive to the store every day or every other day for fresh food, besides the fact that grocery trips also use up valuable time.

I would honestly freak out at a customer if they started peeling the bananas and didn't throw away the peels. I already despise people who taste test the grapes and grab directly out of the green bins. The bins prepped produce go in. Your bacteria needs to stay out of those bins. You're infecting hundreds of products because you can't wait and didn't ask for your product to be stocked sooner. And we're talking like 30sec sooner.

People drank the energy drinks and left the empty cans in random places without paying pretty frequently too.

You can’t convince me that dishwasher brings thick chicken cuts up to 165F. Maybe for a few seconds if you have an insane appliance… I have an ADA galley kitchen in my apartment and my mini Haier’s heating element can bring 120F water “up to ‘or over’ 150” during its main cycle, and that’s higher than the average household dishwasher, which ranges 130-140F. Also worth noting is your dishwasher doesn’t heat water constantly from start to finish. Washing your dishes on all normal settings with a standard box store model, it only heats water for the main wash (longest cycle) and then the final rinse to clear spots from your dishes. It’s only during the FINAL rinse cycle that your water will EVER reach anywhere from 160F-180F, and that cycle only lasts a few minutes. (*Should also mention the heated drying cycle can warm your machine anywhere from about 120-170F, but she shouldn’t be using that if she wants to save money and it still doesn’t seem like a safe environment for food at all.) If she’s cooking poultry in there, she’s risking serious harm to her family even before you factor in the reused food and how clean everything is. It’s a good thing this is almost definitely fake 😬
@MrKuncol
@MrKuncol Год назад
165f is temperature in which bacteria in chicken die immediately, you don't need to keep chicken in that temperature for more than fraction of a second as long as every part of meat has reached it. You can cook meat to lover temp and have it safe if it's kept longer in given temperature (that's exactly what sous vide is doing).
