As a HongKongese, I would like Uncle Roger explain more about the unique way of Stephen Chow used to cook rice. It is called “Bo Jai Fan”煲仔飯. Literally means rice cooked in small pot. The pot is typically made by clay and cooked with charcoal fire. The finished rice will have a very specific aroma and a burnt crust in the bottom , which considerably the best part of the rice. They usually served with assorted meat of your choice on top, so the fat and aroma will zip down to the rice. Don’t ask for a vegan dish please coz we Hong Kong people also allergic to vegan. So weak…. If you want to get this Bo Jai Fan dish in Hong Kong, just visit Temple Street in Yau Ma Tei area, easily accessible by tube. And you will found in between all those prostitution and brothel, there are also quite some shop selling Bo Jai Fan with other seafood dishes.

The names of those techniques all reference wuxia novels by Jin Yong. The dog-beating staff is the weapon used by the master of the beggar's guild. It was named as such because beggars need to fight stray dogs on the street and they are not the most eloquent people.
@KogasaGaSagasa
@KogasaGaSagasa 7 месяцев назад
In addition, the previous skill used by the bad guy is a reference to 降龍十八掌 (The 18 Dragon-Subduing Palms), from the same novels, also from the Beggar's Sect. Interestingly, while the 18 Dragon-Subduing Palms is usually considered harder to master compared to the Dog-Beating Staff, the symbol for the proper leader of Beggar's Sect is determined by the ownership of the Dog-Beating Staff.

food wars was inspired by older cooking anime that were crazy like this (chuuka ichiban, yakitate japan) and shows like iron chef, which in turn was inspired by an old manga/anime called Mister Ajikko which came out 1986. This movie was likely inspired by those old anime and iron chef as well. This movie is like a comedic version of chuuka ichiban.

It’s my favorite movie about food, mouth watering food, comedy, tragedy costed by evil villains, martial arts, and the most important part: Stephen Chow. I remember getting God of Cookery on a Hong Kong bootleg DVD like 20 years ago. Easily one of the best Stephen Chow movies, on the same level as Kung Fu Hustle. This fight climax doesn't even touch the absurdity of it. Sister Turkey's meat tenderizing, Pissing Beef Balls, The Buddha of Wet Dreams. Super excited to think about all the people who will be discovering this classic for the first time.
