Unclogging A Tough Beaver Dam And Dismantling Log Jam On Severely Damaged Roadway

I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

You were talking about your decision to start uploading in 4k, and I just wanted to give feedback and say there is a noticeable difference, like being able to see the first flows of water coming through, or the individual bits of stuff floating in the water. The 4k uploads and the extra time it takes is much appreciated

@robertneblett4477
@robertneblett4477 Год назад
That’s because beavers are what’s known as a keystone species which means they are essential to the survival of the ecosystem (and the planet). They create wetlands which is the foundation for all other species. Also, if they would reintroduce thousands of beavers back into California they wouldn’t have nearly as many forest fires or mudslides .

They've been reintroduced to a few controlled sites here in the UK too. Some in SW England and also in Scotland. They were hunted to extinction in the 16 / 1700's, for fur, meat and castoreum (spelling?). So far, at one site that was prone to severe flash flooding, the beavers have slowed down the transit of water so helping to prevent flooding. They are such fascinating animals.

After watching a few of these unclog the beaver dam videos, the question occurs to me : Why use corrugated pipe where beaver dams are a problem? The corrugations allow the wood log pieces and mud and debris to "lock onto" the pipe interior. If a smooth bore pipe were used, blockages would slide through. Of course, logs placed across the entrance would still block the water flow, but a smooth bore pipe would make it easier to dismantle and dispose of the dam.

Have you ever gotten giardia from your frequent visits to beaver country? Beavers are a primary spreader of the stomach parasite. Also, I was wondering what restrictions are in place to prevent the burning of those downstream (or upstream) piles of dry/drying debris? Looking at that large amount of downstream debris, burning it seems like a good option. You would never get it all to combust, but getting the longer dry stuff would be beneficial. Burning returns carbon to the soil (plants need that carbon). Burning while the forest is that damp shouldn’t make a risk of fire getting out of control. Just a labor saving thought. This appears to be very secure for your cameras. How about one on motion and one on time lapse?
