As far as I've worked out, that creek makes it ways to the sea via a couple of reservoirs then the NEUSE River. Kinda cool that the water in the front ponds could eventually make it to the sea.

That looks and will drain so much better. My OCD is acting up. I'd be tempted to get rid of anything standing less than two inches in diameter and mulch the entire area. The ferns would grow back and it would be a very nice place to have a quiet sit.

Once again, I am so fascinated and drawn by your videos that time shoots by. I was thinking, if I or almost anyone else did this (other than removing brush from the ditch) we'd probably make it worse. With your skill and experience in grading, building ditches, and draining wet areas, you've improved the area tremendously. Not only your property but your neighbors as well. Thanks, Chris, for sharing your farm with us all.

If you keep clearing the creek & filling the low spots like that, your flooding will soon go away - somewhere downstream.😁 Here in West Cumbria, UK, there's nowhere flat enough to hold water for more than a day without a dam.
@outcast1sub7
@outcast1sub7 Год назад
You should put a gate in the fence so you if needed can still access that creek incase lets say a tree falls during a storm and blocks it again, you would still have the ability to take a mini or whatever to clean the mess up.

It’s difficult to see grade by the camera shot the way you can from there, but if you can get a chance, watch this area of the berm during a good rain. You don’t want to prevent runoff from getting to the creek and forcing to run parallel very far. I find it fascinating how streams cut through areas like this from season to season. We had a large woods behind our home in PA when I was growing up and my brother and I spent many a spring and summer damn building and unbuilding for fun and education.
@JDL_2020
@JDL_2020 Год назад
When I used to fish the local streams for small mouth too many years ago, the decent sized creeks could change drastically from just one large rain event. Totally changing their flow, especially if a large tree caused a blockage. The erosion could be massive and encroach on the fences and allow cattle to get out. That is why we got permission, we would always keep and eye on the fences and blockages for them. Helped corral cattle more than a few times.

@tmscheum
@tmscheum Год назад
I believe it was a Mimosa, a non-native tree originating in Asia. Some people consider them trash trees because they are very messy but I, for one, like the fine textured leaves and the prolific pink flowers ……………………….as long as it’s on someone else’s property!
@bazzinbulgaria4826
@bazzinbulgaria4826 Год назад
@@tmscheum Mine is just getting towards the end of its flowering cycle and I've only just come in from getting rid of all the brown, sticky dead flowers which cover the lawn...judging by how many remain on the tree, the exercise will need to be repeated in a couple of days. I would get rid of it, but it was a gift from a special friend and she admires the tree each time she visits.

I've never been a fan of ditching a creek (destabilizing the trees and bank) or preventing it from flooding, as a creek should. I've always preferred a more natural look, even if it's more of a swamp at times.
