IMPORTANT PATCH 7 UPDATE: If your Command Drop cast fails on Yeva, it will be treated as a criminal act and the Flaming Fist near the door will go looking for you. Be prepared to run out of Waukeen's Rest and hide around the corner if this happens. Once they stop looking for you and return to the door, you can move back into position and try again. I made a short follow-up video to cover some of the comments I got on this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UogU1IM8HjU.html And Act 2 here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W3A74hI6xVw.html
So true. The amount of times I had to escape the fight with my rogue to revive the party in act 1's hardest fights (like Owlbear, Gnolls etc.) is embarrassing
You can also cast calm emotions on your party before tbe Harpie fight to completely bypass their charm. The harpy will remain singing and essentially be useless during the fight.
Excellent point; I probably shoulda mentioned that one, too. I focused on Silence because I wanted to sing its praises throughout the video, for how versatile it is.
@@SlimXG silence is by and large a much more versatile spell and more useful in more situations! Just love to highlight the much more niche spells. Especially if you are able to easily swap them out with a Cleric.
Calm Emotions is freaking clutch in Honour Mode. Never used it before, now I had it save my ass multiple times already. Beyond making the harpy figt trivial, a single Calm Emotions (which has a good AoE and range) removes the Gnoll's Frenzy, so that they will never get their multi-attack. Also removes rage from enemy barbarians (though that's not as important in my experience) The 2nd spell I can't believe I never used before is Enhanced Ability. I have it on my bard and Shadowheart, meaning just like that I can get advantage in every ability I need (mostly charisma), and can keep up to two active for a whole day! Yes, it requires concentration, but one spell slot is well worth suceeding important checks. Especially since the Friends cantrip is dangerous in Honour Mode, as it can aggro npcs, get you imprisoned and frop reputation. Had to restart a whole run because Friends wore off on Kagha after I saved Arabella, which immediately made her activate the Rite of Thorns and Tiefling purge. Never used Friends ever since. :P
@@SlimXG Most BG3 videos are either challenges or speedruns. Shorts often funny moments or quick guides. You made a full list (probably still lacking due to the huge amount of content) of secrets and cheese strats. I would love to see more videos about that. Not only honor mode but everything.
@@sleyana_ Better mic is essential, yes (I had to talk verrrry carefully and do many re-records for nearly every line in the video to compensate for the lousy properties of my cheap old mic). But, voice . . . acting? o_O
This is easily one of if not the best bg3 videos I’ve watched. My recommended really knocked it out of the park with this one. Exactly the type of video I’ve been looking for as I attempt honor mode
The feedback on this Act 1 video has been surprisingly positive, so I've started writing out notes for Act 2 (and looking into getting a better mic). But yeah, it will take some time to make the video. Maybe you will have successfully finished your whole Honor run by then!
i wish i knew some of thee before becuse ive been brute forcing my way through the game lol i just hit level 5 and decided to fuck up the goblin camp. this video was great honestly and super super helpful. all the underdark tips is going to be used for sure @@SlimXG
Random trivia: That clip of, "Silence!" is from a Jack in the Box commercial, and that's Steve Valentine who played Alistair in the Dragon Age games (as the Earl of Sandwich)
@@chloekravatz84 I've been quoting it since it was first on TV in 2002 hahah Can see the whole thing, here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SjgbIsGSZOc.html
WOW. Easily one of the best information guides to cruising through Act 1. Even the flow of progression you gave clearly has a lot of thought put into it, particularly the Myconid Colony up to the Creche part. MASSIVE thanks for the Hag tips too. I've always hated not being able to get the jump on her so I'm very delighted to know that you can still do that yourself.
The hag fight is probably the most complex encounter in Act 1. For all the things I said about it, there's way more I coulda said, but the video is already long enough hahah. Thanks.
@@SlimXG I try to avoid meta-gamimg on most encounters whenever possible, and I handwave that as them not seeing the enemy beforehand- like an actual inverse ambush like the Spectator. (which you also gave a GREAT tip for) However now that I think about it in retrospect, it's not actually cheesy to get the jump on Ethel. After all, it's very obvious that reaching that part of the Hag's lair is a setup for an incoming fight, and by that point, the party is already made aware that Ethel can go invisible- so it's not "metagamey" for the player to try and one up that. For the Spectator, I've yet to think of a way to essentially "excuse" the party reverse-ambushing it, so perhaps I won't follow the trick you gave even if it's doable. It's not a super hard encounter anyway.
My first time playing the game, I just naturally snuck around to the bottom and into Ethel's room, because it felt like the roguish thing to do. I still ended up stumbling into her and getting surprised, since I didn't have Volo's eye yet, that first time. But I had already clicked the button to lower Mayrina, so I didn't even know about Ethel burning the cage until I saw it in a video, later. And yeah, the Spectator fight is obviously designed specifically to surprise you, so there's no way to avoid it in any "realistic" way. The trick in the video is from the mindset of, "Hey, you've done the fight the normal way before, so here's a new way to try it."
Maybe in Honour mode it is harder or impossible. But I sneak around the side of the tea house. From there it is possible to sneak attack Ethel whilst she is telling Mayrina to eat up. A single lightning arrow from stealth does 150 damage and kills her midst transformation. You shoot Ethel and roast the Hag. Looting the rest of her lair is a doddle from there on.
There is also a dagger on the body of someone in the worg pens. Its makes it so all goblins have disadvantage to attack you. Very good for the fights against the goblin bosses and cleaning up the camp after
Haven't tried honour mode yet but I have played through 4 times: still found about half a dozen+ tips I've never seen before. Hoping you complete Act 2 and 3 vids before I get back to BG3 for an honour run. Well done!
Same, ive beaten it several times, and many of these tricks i had no clue about. Because I played the game a bit too much im taking a break, but plan to do a honor mode when i dust it off again. This video was practically a detailed cheat mode walk through of act 1. Makes me think you could almost do honor mode with the worst class build following these tips.
Easily the best BG3 tips guide I’ve seen. Not only did you make me discover a couple of things I didn’t know, but you also made me reflect on some gameplay mechanics that I didn’t think about!
this video is so impressive. how larian came up with and actually implemented all these tiny little secrets and interactions and how the playerbase are so creative to experiment with every mechanic, interaction and event this thoroughly. great work❤
For the Hag, you can also start with create water to make her wet, to tell her apart from the illusions. For Grym, have a throwing Barbarian up top and one invisible char yanking the lever when lava runs out.
I didnt know for the longest time but i think all the interactables in the lower level can just be shot at. Anything that would hit, throwing items, etc. Was so satly after having to constantly waste a char getting the lava to contiually flow every other turn
You can also get the brand from warlock near gut in the chapel if you kill gut. So if you forget your camp peeps (like I do, EVERY time) you can run them though the branding ceremony. Everyone disapproves of that….
Would love to see your Honor Mode Act walkthroughs for 2 and 3 as well. Good stuff! I've cleared Honour myself and have come up with my own strategies for pathing and for each encounter. Learned a lot from yours! Pretty high quality video too. Hope your viewers/subs rise. You deserve it :)
There's a more consistent way to get Voss' Sword at the entrance of the mountain pass. A level 5 Beast Master Ranger's bear has an attack that disarms without a check (as long as it hits), so you just make the bear invisible, bless it, then pray for the 80% with advantage to hit. You'll have to fight but you get the sword far more consistently. Of course this would likely require a respec (very few people use beast master), but 200ish gold for both respecs tends to be worth it for the best sword in the game for Lae'zel.
I always just tend to use Battle Master. Make Karlach's Con 16, Use ASI to increase that to 18, and then have her chug a Giant Strength potion. Invis from a sorcerer, Precision attack before doing anything, Bless and Bardic Inspo and it took me around 3 tries.
Next to the guidance amulet is a small rock hole that you can get a spider egg from. It summons a group of I believe six spiderlings when thrown, under your command. I used them to tank many of the Owlbear hits as we decided we wanted to do the fight.
Some other tips to add: You can defeat Guts without even a fight: Tell her about the mindflayer. She'll give you a sleep potion to abduct you. Chug it on a character that isn't immune to being put to sleep (elves). You'll wake up in her cell. Refuse any attempt to break free and eventually you'll get saved by Raphaels secretary without having to lift a finger. Get Mol's ring early: Get the quest to steal the idol from Mol - helping one of the kids first will make her friendly. Grab Khagas letter from the tree in the swamp and confront her to kill her. Now the druids will stop the ritual, allowing you to steal it from hiding with a fog cloud. Only when the ritual is stopped will you be able to steal the idol without the druids slaughtering the Tieflings in response. Easiest way to kill the Underdark Druegar and save the gnomes: Bring lots of ways to push enemies to make the fights trivial. Get the boots from the gnome at the Myconoid colony. Approach the Druegar at the beach (without Glut present) and tell the you got the boots. Enter the boat with your strongest character. When approached by the Druegar trade with him to buy his loot if you want it then shove him off the boat and kill the rest. Sail back to the beach to long rest as the rest is time sensitive. Approach the rebel leader on the too of the stairs and get him talking about his plan. Then insult him until he starts a fight which will not aggro the rest of the Druegar. Next toss the seargent in the lava and finish off the rest of the Druegar. Then you can free Nere with a barrel and fight him alone. I've done this as early as level 4 on HM.
As a first-time honor moder, this is great. Thank you. After doing a part of Act I on instincts and previous experience, and suffering anxiety multiple times, I feel like I will return to this from time to time.
With vendors, if you have a backpack on you, you can sell it to them and put the items they sell inside of it gold included. So when you kill them all the items inside the backpack are saved. Started doing this whenever i know i will murder one
Wow, i gotta say, well done mate. So often i see videos of "things you didnt know" that are things i definitely did. Ive fine combed this game, but you're the first to give so cool ideas. Gonna be honest, i was like "dam, why didnt i think of that." For the feather fall to Karlack. Its nothing game breaking but its clever. Very good video. Earnt my sub.
Thank you very much. Just so happens I uploaded another, much shorter video today, with a few more Act 1 bits. The full Act 2 video is in the works, though will take a while to complete.
Big tip for the Spectator fight: Spells such as Charm Person or Tasha's Hideous Laughter can free charmed NPCs, turning enemies into allies, or at the very least meat shields. Want to stress, for whatever reason, you do NOT need to hit with these spells to clear their mind control.
I have put in hundreds of hours in this game, probably making it my most played game. I still learned a staggering amount of new things from this video. That is really to this video's great credit.
Some great tips there, thanks for sharing! After priestess Gut goes to her room and even after you kill her, you can still get your brand from a warlock Greez, right by her starting location. No need for conversation switches.
it's actually insane how many things i missed while playing through the game THREE DIFFERENT TIMES! I'm on my fourth playthrough right now doing Honor mode and I'm both shocked and saddened about the amount of strong items I missed out on already lol. Great video!
I have a few tips which weren’t mentioned. 1. breaking the web bridge in the spider matriarch fight will make it fall and take up to 40 dmg and go prone 2. If you don’t want to fight the hag or get the hair from her you can sneak around and just use arcane lock on the staircase to the basement and she can’t leave that room making it a much easier fight without any of her abilities 3. For the spectator fight you can send any non player companion that you have down to the area without triggering any cutscenes and destroy all of the frozen drow 4. If you ever feel like you might die in a fight or want to test it out send one of your characters to camp or on the other side of the map or even at the edge of the combat so that you can leave combat to camp if things get rough. 5. USE BARRELS. any kind of flammable barrel like oil, firewine or smokepowder. they are so helpful in almost any fight and you can store them in your stronger characters and set them up near where any large health character or boss will be and then detonate it with fireball. It has saved me so many times. Any questions i am happy to answer ❤
1. This is shown in the video. I didn't go into detail because it's a very common tactic. 2. Right. I left out any tricks like that because I considered getting the buff hair to be the primary reason to fight her. But I could have mentioned the other trick methods. If I was making the video these days, I woulda. 3. Interesting. Since the spectator has a new Legendary Action in Patch 7, it's probably worth considering extra tricks like that to make the fight even easier. 4. This is another tip that I didn't include because it was already in lots of other more general Honour Mode video guides. 5. I specifically set a rule of using no barrels because, again, it's a very common (and in my opinion, boring) tactic. I mention this in the intro of the video.
The level of detail in this game is incredible. It feels like a lot of the Act 1 exploits could have actually been planned by the devs before they even thought of Honour Mode!
I've just started the game and watched a whole bunch of videos. This is easily the most entertaining one so far. I can tell it would have taken you ages to put it all together and it's very smart how you've humorised your failures. Looking forward to what you produce in the near future
Much appreciated. And, yes, these do take a long time to make (the Act 2 video is probably going to take longer). And yeah, an example is how many tries it can take to get a clip of, say, failing the same 55% spell cast three times in a row hahah.
I learned... so many things thank you so much for this, I was struggling a lot with Act 1. I'd love to have a video like this for Act 2 and 3 as well!!
Great tips! Would love to see an act 2 and 3…especially 2 because there’s at least 3 or 4 fights that can’t be cheese’d with dialogue. The Assault of Moonrise Towers if you ally and join the Harpers, comes to mind.
Thank you kindly, and I'm workin' every day on the Act 2 video. Haven't gotten to Moonrise Towers yet, but I can promise you there will be plenty of tricks in there.
I have had multiple play Throughs, and I’ve still learned an incredible amount from this single video. Honestly, this is the most informative video I have ever watched. Subscribed.
This is the best bg3 video I’ve ever seen. I thought honor mode was too much for me, now after watching this I really want to give it a try, you just gave me bardic inspiration 🎲
Hahah well thank you very much. I'm glad I could help. I'm working on a video for Act 2 that will go into much more detail than this one. I hope it helps, as well.
This video is incredible, genuinely some really clever techniques showcased for each boss and situation! This will do wonders for my honor mode run, thank you! I also like how you showcase multiple solutions to each boss (i.e. talking to Voss first or alternatively kidnapping and yeeting him lmao) so that you can still roll-play and cheese less if you'd prefer that.
That sort of balance of tactics was exactly what I was going for. Especially when I had something on the more cheese/exploit side, I wanted to give a more traditional alternative as well
This is my first time seeing your videos, absolutely love them, seeing people give advice and new ways to play bg3 really makes me fall in love with this game again and again! Thanks mate! You got a follower and a like!
holy crap dude, this video really makes me realize just how dense this game is, i considered myself pretty thourough and i still missed a ton of stuff in act one
With the strange ox, use disguise self away from the area, cast mage hand, send it to slap the ox, they kill the hand. Go disguised and buy the ring, then undisguise and the ox won’t hate the real you
This is a fantastic video! I have beaten honor mode and done countless runs through the game on other difficulties and there were plenty of things in this video I did not know. Thank you for putting this together. you earned my like and and subscribe. I look forward to seeing your Act 2 & Act 3 videos.
I’ve beaten honor mode a while back but I cannot believe I didn’t know about the different route on the beach as well as the first Harper chest 😂 I always go fight the brains then grab the silver pendant after goblin gate. Awesome tips broski 🤙
I did beat Honour Mode two days ago, but got curious about this video. I did learn something I had not known before even with the 750 hours of gameplay I've performed: I can just shovel unfound dig sites?!?!?!?! Holy hell. There are in general some really good tips in here that I had not thought of, I am clearly not that clever. Thanks for compiling these tips!
Ty for the tips homie. I almost closed vid on the nth time ive seen someone say command drop everburn, but Im glad I stayed because the bliss spores before creche yllek/necromancy of thay is such a good idea.. and im thinking paired with shapeshifter boon would be almost gaurenteed awakened on honour mode. Fingers crossed we make it outta act 1 with this one xd
Hahah yeah, I started the video like that as a joke on how common that tip is, hoping people would watch at least 10 seconds . . As for Awakened, remember that if your main character is the one sitting in the machine, all the rolls are saving throws, so Shapeshifter's Boon doesn't help.
@SlimXG confirmed tho, it was guaranteed awakened AND thay. No joke.. elixir of heroism and bless paired with bliss spores. Clutch. Rolled 30s on most all of it, except to use inspo on thay. Edit: there was Rest between switching zones between mountain pass and the underdark, but I don't think they counted as long rest cause I didn't use supplies. Iunno.
This idea of selling items to vendors who you will fight soon is a revelation! I enjoy playing BG3 as a rather "realistic" role-playing game, and mostly without save-scumming. Thus I'm constantly short on gold, since I very rarely steal anything. But if the vendor has enough money to buy my items in the first place, he consequently should drop this amount of gold when defeated. So, I feel no inconsitencies or non-realistic outcomes when using your method, quite on the contrary. Thank you for this idea, allowing me to compensate for a disadvantage when playing a "realistic" style! ❤
Great video. Just on the vendor drops. If you trade the vendor a container, you can open the container in their inventory and then put all their items in it. Then when they die, they drop the container with everything in it.
This video is great, I’ve played this game loads and am currently finishing the game on my honor solo run. And there’s still stuff here that I didn’t consider!
I can't claim credit for that one, since I saw it in a solo challenge run video, and that guy got the tip from a comment on one of his other videos. I wish I knew who first figured that one out hahah.
im watching this 6 months later but this is a high quality video and i expected the creator to have alot more subscribers glad to see someone who puts alot of effort into it doing well
very helpful video, great job man. These truly were tips I had not heard elsewhere, and a good few of them were very helpful. Your strategy made the Matriarch and Grym fights very safe and clean. I really look forward to the act 2/3 video!
Oh my, this is amazing. I will try this with the giths. I have survived so far, but I am so afraid to face the inquisitor. I had to reload a few times on tactician to beat him. Thanks for the tip! This time he will be flying into the chasm.
I can't leave a comment about which specific tip I liked 'cause I liked them all! I've got almost 500 hours in this dang game and you showed me a ton of stuff I had no idea about. 10 outta 10. No notes!
there were loads of magic items that i've never seen before that i'll happily be grabbing next run thanks to this, especially that ring of pickpocket and stealth
Actually all of this info is very informative. Didn't know about the sword in the rest, gonna need to grab it on my next playthrough. Thanks for all the info
You did an awesome job with this video! I've already cleared honour mode, but i really wish i had this video before i did because it would have made the early game much easier.
Decided to fight my way out of the Githyanki crèche rather than slip out through the secret entrance by the vendor. Got to the final encounter, by the main entrance. Everyone was low on health and spells. Had no rests remaining, but had a song of rest with my bard MC. Shadowheart was already reclassed to a light cleric. Had a potion of invisibility. Sent Shadowheart in while invisible, used radiance of dawn. Surprise round. Did it again turn 2. Made it Much, much easier.
