Have you considered installing some well points to pump out fhe groundwater before it hits your rock wall? Also, you may be better off capturing any water into a hard piped system which outfalls outside rather than just dumping it under the (yet to be built) floor. I have a couple other relevant ideas if interested. FYI I am a professional civil engineer. Cheers! ELI

Going by the amount of water coming through the wall, I can't see letting the water drip in and dry out the way you want as being a feasible option. I think the only viable option is to dig behind the house and water proof the exterior of the wall. Whatever you decide i wish you the best of luck.

По поводу отвода воды : необходимо проложить дренажные канавы по верхним терассам и отвести дождевую воду . Первая терраса выше от дома должна оснащаться дренажной канавой. Расстояние между домом и подпорной стеной желательно отсыпать мелками камнями - слой толщиной 10-30 сантиметров и покрыть бетонной стяжкой- это позволит отвести случайно попавшую на отмостку воду. А если какая то влаги просочится то она вытечет между слоями мелких камешков. Если непонятно мое объяснение то советую найти русского инженера строителя. Обязательно это должен быть инженер. Мы легко решаем подобные вопросы.

I’m interested to see how you deal with the water ingress problem - it would be wonderful if you could install a sump pump but that may not be possible in this case. I really enjoyed watching you uncover the hidden staircase and the stone trough at the bottom is absolutely beautiful - I look forward to seeing how you use this area of your property in the future ❤

That dark leaf soil on the stair is unique to the area, most of Italy being semi-arid keeps an extremely thin top soil. If you can build a stone box for composting leaves and scraps, and hide it in the shade off the side of a high moisture content wall, you'll have an abundant supply of rich topsoil for far better crop returns than your neighbors. The water seeps on the stone stair are working as AC in tandem with that tree, making great black soil.... The horse trough at the old path is lovely. Really great property and a great view. I'd look for a German or Swiss engineer, if you can find one.

Be it a rock during excavation, a branch or log while you're uncovering the stairs, etc. A little pre-planning in your mind will save the back and time in the long run. I think your life is dedicated to digging. What your doing however, is really very admirable. I lived in Europe for 13 years and miss many of the natural scenery and the people that I met along the way.

The terrace retaining walls and stone steps are incredible and you have to admire the people who made it without the help of today's advanced power tools. Love how you are taking such care restoring the property. On the outside wall that backsonto the mountain, will you tank it. Years ago I lived in a converted stone barn built into the hill and we tanked the back walls and floors and had no damp issues.

Would it be possible to dig diversion trenches/French drains or even swales on the upper terraces?

Just brainstorming for you guys, as I have renovated an old barn into a house: The humidity problems : we had them as bad on a one wall (, even though not at mountain flank) Reasons were 1. there was an old manure pit dug out just next to that wall (and that was currently underground, but creating a " underground pool of water" just next to the wall 2. Since it had been a barn, old tracks of animal urine on the walls (especially if walls are natural in the joints, like clay/hay) will create a reaction of salpeter, that will condense humidty more in those walls.

Great progress. Hydraulic cement is used to seal crakes in foundations ,etc. Drill and inject from backside or inside.. You maybe able to capture some mountain seeps with drain tile on left corner of stone building? install a sump pump in wet corner and run it into exterior drain tile?

Theres no way that was designed to be a barn - it was built as an early house and later, much later , turned into a barn

Aren't you afraid that the stones will collapse on you and you will be trapped or worse?

Nice house, enjoy half of the roof, all the rain falls there at 16:17. Instead of digging and building a watertight wall. Extend the roof and dig behind the second wall a channel for the rain to drain there. Take measurements to see where the moisture is, and from the outside get to the place and seal with tar, preferably along the entire length of the wall. I hope I helped. Enjoy an amazing place :)

Try to watch Martjin Doolaard vlog doing the same digging of soil inside the stone house. You may get some tip for safety digging.

When I think of the work, the manual labor, that went into constructing the stairs and terraces; I am amazed and impressed. And now you are putting in the sweat. Surely one man did not do all that work by himself several hundred years ago. Just amazing. I love rocks.

In Ireland they mitigate what they call rising damp, you've mentioned that before, by injecting silicone into their rock walls. They drill to the center of the walls about a foot above grade, from the outside, every foot or so laterally, and inject silicone under very high pressure. They then go inside the house, and repeat the same thing going about every foot or so vertically. The silicone fills all the crevices and stops all the water intrusion.
