I lived in Uganda for several years and actually developed curriculum about space for a teacher training program! It was SO fascinating to speak about space with children and teachers. One teacher told me “I don’t think we should mess with what’s above, we have so much to worry about here.” Which I know is a sentiment many people all over the world hold. I also found some teachers had a fear of what might happen if we explore space. There was a lot of mixed responses to space exploration so I’m excited to see how that pans out in your film!
Where have you been all my life 😂. I used to skip class just get lost in books about space and all that. I knew more about astrophysics than life when I was just teenager! I hope there’s more people like you in our country for the next generation of space enthusiasts and future pioneers. We appreciate you.
That opinion is only held by the vastly ignorant, the people incapable of seeing the previously unimaginable amount of advancement potential that the heavens represent. Africa has many self created problems that they must solve before they can ever hope to join the space race. It will likely be hundreds of years before any serious African space effort can be both entirely funded, developed, launched and orchestrated by an all African team, without substantial help from the East or West. Africa never experienced their own collective reformation period, like Asia and Europe, so if their future resembles our past, they have to endure that period of trouble before any real parity can ever exist between any African countries and say, America, France, UK, etc.
Tayo aina our special brother .. I hope I will be inviting you when the time is right to see what I do and can will still do … @Tayo Aina much respect brother
The editing in this is fkn INSANE. I love to edit videos and I couldn't imagine learning how to do 99% of this stuff. I bet this took days to edit.. awesome stuff, I loved every second of this.
@@DanMace Hey man really love your work. Could you do a Video where you show us how you create/edit this kind of videos? I also like to have this kind of skills one day and I working for it.
Hey Dan, I missed you in Uganda. Thank you for the story. Honestly, I wanted to run away from the anticipated response each time you mentioned G-force. Oh boy, I am sharing this on Twitter.
Not the only African country to give it a go! Zambia did it as well! In 1960, a guy named Edward Makuka Nkoloso founded the Zambia National Academy of Science, Space Research and Philosophy. And from its founding to 1969, he had ambitious plans to send a teenage girl and two cats to the Moon, as well as plans to Mars, with the Mars program's goal to Christianize Martians making Zambia the "controllers of the Seventh Heaven of Interstellar space". Those who participated were called Afronauts (yes, I'm not kidding), and like in Uganada, they were trained to go to space by rolling down hills in oil drums to simulate the feel. But of course, they never actually went to space. So what happened? Well... They DID create a rocket called D-Kalu 1, a three meters by 2 meters drum-shaped vessel made of aluminum and copper (or at least that's what he said). It was supposed to launch on the day they got their independence from the main stadium, but they were denied because the government deemed the rocket as inappropriate for space travel. Edward then attempted to get a grant of millions of Zambian pounds (the currency used then) from UNESCO, but a Zambian government ministry made it clear that he didn't do it on behalf of the country, so that too was rejected.
Am as clueless about this space program in my own country like the rest of those people. And it’s just as surreal getting to see places you’ve grown up in through a vlogger’s eyes 👀. Amazing story telling as always Mace 👌🏽
BRU you are the RU-vid journalist of our time!!! Keep finding more of these stories cause we WILL come back to listen, watch, and feel the tales you create!
You know a country truly knows "da wae" when they attempt to go to space to challenge imperialist powers because why not? I mean even WE have our own space agency...the National Aerospace Development Administration. But you can just call it NADA
I think that was my all time favourite video of yours - at least, easily top 3! So well produced and highly entertaining. Love it!! And I think I want a t-shirt with the symbol of the African space programme at minute 6:22! :-) Can't wait to see the big project!!
I cant explain the kick and excitement I get after watching your videos. The effort behind those videos is just unimaginable. Thank you so very much for putting out those beautiful videos. I wish I could work with you someday and learn from you.
Damn dude this really was so interesting and engaging to watch. I can’t wait to dive back into this in your feature! As a South African I’d like to thank you for sharing the rich cultures and stories which live within them on this beautiful continent!🙏🏻 Good luck for the production process!
Thank you for such a kind message Evan it means so much to me!! I'm so stoked for it :) It was awesome to meet you recently - hope film school is going well!
@@DanMace Gotta give credit where credit is due bru. Film school is going well and I’m getting better at my craft each day. Thanks for asking😁 Also thanks again for having me at your studio, getting to know the people and seeing the effort put in behind the scenes really adds to the impact your work has🤙🏻
Finally someone with actual brains, it seems. I ended this video knowing exactly the same I knew about the Ugandan Space Program before, which is nothing. This was one of the most pointless videos I've seen in a while, there was zero content except the guy wasting other people's time (why he feels entitled to take time out of this people's life for this "interviews" is a mystery to me). Yes, I get this is supposed to be the lightest, superficial kind of "storytelling", but can't his viewers handle 5 minutes of actual information? Like, how much money was wasted in this space program? Who was actually in charge? How much money ended in some general's pocket? How far is the work of the private "space program"? How is it funded? Instead, we got to see a guy travel to Uganda to waste other people's time instead of actually reporting of telling a story. Still, his viewers are unironically impressed by his unique storytelling style. Are this people braindead?
Such innovation, expertise, patience &. brilliance coming through these episodes. Dan you're fucking incredible, god knows how long these pieces take you to make - truly shows how passionate you are, keep em coming!
Every time, Interlay every video you post makes me more impressed, the editing skills and style you have and amount of work you put into is is mesmerizing and just incredible. Thank you Dan, I really appreciate your work..
This is so amazing! And I am stoked of this videos production. You guys are putting so much work and love into it. Crazy, lovely details. And still, many open questions to the story itself! I hope that bigger film will also stream here in Germany. Cheers!
love love love your content! You are a phenomenal story teller and I love that you always manage to bring across an encouraging message in your videos.
I saw an exhibition from the Zeitz Mocaa inspired by this a few years back loved the art work and I have a sketch of the African Astronaut on my desk ever since :)
The story was intriguing but the cassette tape recorder hanging from around the neck, that was classic 👍😎 it made me feel like you guys were real news reporters🤣🤣🤣
Dan, been following you since the early Casey Neistat days. Glad to see you've got this show with Discovery + Originals. Someone there is doing their job. These are fantastic. We stopped posting our adventures a few months ago since we had our baby but now that he's a fearless toddler we've started to bring him on trips so this definitely gets our vlog juices going! Maybe some day we hope to get a show too and can make a living from what we love most. Adventure and journalism!
Back yard inventors are the best love it and thank you for showing your amazing country the way you do showing the real place and people keep it going bro
When I see people giving it all like you I'm always so worried that they develop mental health problems. Everything comes with a cost. This video might have been the highlight of my week.
