The Morris-Jumel Mansion is in the process of uncovering more about the lives of individuals who lived and worked at the historic site, beyond the "Founding Fathers" and wealthy Morris and Jumel Families. In this video, learn about the family of Anne Hampton Northup (c. 1808-1876) a skilled cook and mother who lived and worked for Eliza Jumel in the early 1840s. After Solomon Northup, Anne's husband and author of Twelve Years a Slave, was kidnapped and sold into slavery in 1841, Anne and their three children briefly worked and resided at the Mansion in New York City. This talk features local historian and Northup scholar David Fiske.
