Good to know that the condition of your health improved a lot now ... as we aged, it is important to be more careful with the food that we consume, the amount of rest as well as the need to reduce on alcohol intake if not totally stop taking any at all. I am 65 and alhamdullillah I am quite healthy and have not experienced any health issues. What I had and is still practising is that I fast two days in a week ie.on every monday and thursday... maybe you and your wife could try this new challenge ! 😄 ... anyway, I wish you all the best, take care and stay safe always ... you are always welcome to come back to Msia for medical treatment 🌺🐈‍⬛🐈🐒💐

Glad to have you "back." During our five years in Mexico, we received outstanding medical care at a small fraction of the cost in the US. The five hospitals frequented by expayts were like 5-star hotels. The scare tactic employed in the USA is simply smoke and has not merit. We also paid out of pocket and simply set aside a dedicated charge card for any medical disaster. That's what other expats advised. Bill

I was admitted to KPJ Specialist last year. The day i was registered, they took blood for lab test, and send to ward for rest. The next day, the doctor came, check and ask me to go for MRI, X Ray. The next morning doctor came and ask me to start fasting. On the afternoon my operation started. I had to stay for 1 week for pnumonia and now, back to health. For most of the time in ward, they asked me to go rest and sleep. I feel like it was my 1 week holiday without need to think about work😂

It sounds like a fishing expedition frankly. Simple fasting would probably solve most of the problems due to eating bad food. 😂
@MyHappyCats
@MyHappyCats Год назад
@@mcgdoc9546 it was really fast and efficient i would say. If i admit into government hospital it would be more than 1 month procedure but the total costs of it almost 60k😂. But the government’s hospital costs less than. 300 ringgit. But pneumonia will not solve by just simple fasting. They need to suck all the water inside lung and keep antibiotic for quite sometimes

Not true. The govt hospitals are fast n immediate with urgent cases as in my relative's pneumonia case. Cost RM500 @ the max they can charge for senior citizens

Of course is different service between Government & private hospital. The Govern. Hosital more patient for sure the prosedure take more time. But the cost is cheaper. RM1 for registration & the rest all free for Malaysian Citizen.

I'm so glad you're feeling better. Really appreciate these types of videos that show the ins and outs of dealing with real life on the road. It's not always beautiful views and tasty treats. Thanks for letting us peek behind the curtain. Also, your financial videos (I've watched them all) really helped me shift the way I manage finances and have my husband and I on a better track then we were. Pat yourself on the back and take the bow. You've changed two lives for the better with just those videos. Thank you.

Hi Neil, thanks for sharing all this, I hope you and Sarah are doing better. It is very good of you to share all this no doubt stressful experience on RU-vid. My mother has suffered with high blood pressure for decades. She does not watch her weight or exercise (despite constant nagging) and it has progressively impacted her ability to do things. Sounds like you have the opportunity to put diet and exercise first. I know that is not an easy challenge. I wish you both the best and I am looking forward to following you for many years.😊

Thank goodness you are feeling better! This video was quite the roller coaster, I found myself worried sick for 3/4ths of the program! After experiencing some similar symptoms to yours, my friend recommended Dr. Michael Greger’s book, How Not to Die. (He also has a RU-vid channel called Nutrition Facts.) I completely changed my diet according to the book, and have never felt better. Like you and Sarah, I was frequently eating on the go. Unfortunately, restaurant and packaged foods are loaded with sodium. It’s really too bad we feel the need to alter our food so much to be palatable.

Seems we are always following the same things, but with me over 10 years older ! In October before I went to Thailand for a month my doctor wanted to re asses my blood pressure tablets, I’ve been on them 20 years ! So he decided to do it on my return, but no sooner than I returned I was off again and I’m finally seeing him this Wednesday. The efficiency of the tests out there is remarkable & it’s good to see your feeling better. I only wanted to travel for a year, but I’m so close to stopping now and just having holidays

Glad to hear that you are doing better 😀. Wishing you many happy years of travels. High BP is an insidious disease and can lead to a whole host of negative consequences. The prices are so much better than they would have been in the US; likely, it would have barely covered your co-pays after insurance! The alcohol challenge sounds like a great idea: alcohol is a neurologic depressant drug.

Thanks for sharing this very personal experience. As you said, it's not something we like to think about, however, healthcare is one of the most important topics for nomads in my opinion. I think there is a lot of anxiety over this topic and it's not addressed enough. I'm very happy to hear that you are finally having some good results and feeling much better. I'm also happy to see your dedication to doing what needs to be done. It is good to hear that your experience with healthcare in Malaysia was so positive and that you will consider it as a potential health care home base. We have had similar thoughts due to our own positive experiences with the health care system there. I should say that I also totally agree with your sentiments regarding health insurance. Ours is there for catastrophic coverage. We plan to pay out of pocket for things that won't create financial hardship for us. It's always good to get a bit more reassurance that we are on the right track with our thoughts regarding heath care and nomadic travel. So, thank you for that. I look forward to the following videos and your progress.

This was helpful for me - as I had been considering retiring in Malaysia or at least spending a number of years there. The health care in my country is good and free, which has been a boon given a serious health diagnosis recently, but it has made me wonder whether I should re-think my plans. Videos like this however provide a level of comfort about making the move.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Glad you are doing much better. Here in the US, medical/dental costs can break you. Luckily my family has decent healthcare insurance. So when my daughter had a small surgery done few months ago, we had insurance paying a lot of the costs. The scary part is you don’t know how much it’s all going to cost. We didn’t stay overnight at hospital, went home the same day. now after months of bills trickling in, I think the total is around $115,000. We paid about $2,500 out of pocket. I don’t know how people pay that if they can’t afford insurance through an employer.

I'm Malaysian, i went to a public clinic called the Titiwangsa KKM, it's like a one stop centre clinic where there are certain specialists there instead of just GPs. Paid RM1 (USD 0.20) lol, to have my eyes checked (astigmatism) then it turned out that i had an eye condition called Keratoconus 😢, well, they did thorough examination on my eyes, and along with explanation and what to do, just for RM1! The waiting time wasn't even that long, took me only 25 minutes before i was summoned to the room 😮😮

In M'sia, the physician will prescribe the meds after consultation for us to get it in their hospitals regardless it's publics (gov) or privates. We do have independent pharmacy to go to, but it's people choice with some limitation. If it's controlled drugs, prescription or approval from expert/ Dr is still required

Sorry to say Neil. I strongly advocate that you find somewhere to settle and allow yourself and also Sarah the chance to recouperate. After your loss and the stress of returning to the UK and both of you having to deal with that added to the sizable stress of continual roaming and travelling this is a recipe for stress and illness. I would suggest that if monitoring your health condition is important you and Sarah return to Thailand, get a Retirement visa and go somewhere such as Phuket with good air for a year. The air quality in the North is not good now. The hospital system is very good here as you know. Apply mindful meditation and similar. I think you need rest and recuperation. A vestibular issue will be disrupted by air travel..

Well, it may have a cost a small fortune in the end but I would've paid 5 times as much for someone to get to the bottom of it - what's your health worth? Everything! Glad to know you're ok. So in short, was it the specific drugs (and dose) which solved it? And if it as blood pressure meds, why didn't UK doctors try prescribing it? I didn't think there were THAT many variants of drugs for controlling blood pressure.

Neil, wow, you’ve been thru a lot. I appreciate your honesty and what you’ve shared about how hard this has been on you and Sarah. I heard you say one thing that really concerned me. I’m going to give some feedback, it is offered in love, not judgment. You mentioned that your cardiologist said you had something “that might rupture” and advised you to not exercise. Oh my! I strongly encourage you to slow everything down and get more information. Heart issues that rupture are or could be aneurysms- that is serious life threatening business. I wonder if it would be good to have Sarah listen in on some of this because you seem to naturally downplay what you’re hearing. I may be totally misreading you. I apologize if I am. But I’m concerned that you tend to self refer to ENT due to dizziness when really it might be better to start with internist and allow that doc to refer you out to specialists. Please slow down and focus on addressing your health. You’re a sweet guy and I want you around for Sarah and for us. I’m worried! Take care-

Depend how fussy your health budget anyone. Definitely you can save a lot on medicines and doctors cost vs in the US. Eat right & well, exercise. Check your HBP & Diabetes, naturally you would be well. Don't stress yourself thinking negative. For retirement place, KL & Penang so so. Ipoh Perak is more suitable place for retire living (low living cost, good hospital too, low quality food cost, hill climbing early morning/ noon climb, waterfall, drive around state to state, no need travel insurance, good pharmacies, food court, wholesale Seafood/vegetables market, weekly night market, public gym, beaches at 1.5 hrs driving and many more). Food Culture: Chinese, Western, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Indian etc. For your Blood Pressure: You wouldn't get stroke, use OSIM Hand massager & drill it in your entire head area, shoulder, back neck, whole face. Any place there is pain, drill it till the tension of the muscles soft. Do it everyday (optional). Can get lazy if you are feeling well. I have HBPat 240 at one time I never have stroke. For lazy exercise people. 2nd: get your HBP medicine right. Less salt in Yr food. Cameron Highland near just 1.5 hrs to 1.45 hours self drive. Health food organic vegetables farm, strawberry abundance. Cold haze too. Steamboat, order to cook chinese meals, Western food. Great short holiday trip. Lumut-beach same distance. (Ipoh,Perak is between KL & Penang)

Aren't you lucky to be treated that well and cheap in Malaysia? As you know, we (UK) don't really have that wonderful mixture of private and public health care like they do over there. It's either one or the other. How I wished we do have, because then at least you can have a second (or first) opinion. Free NHS is great, but it's a massive bureaucratic behemoth and it's lagging behind as you yourself confirmed. To do that many tests (still not as comprehensive as you had) pretty much all at once, you'd have to be admitted to E&A, otherwise it's a long wait. Glad your health has improved. Simple advice: Eat healthily and exercise! Wished NHS can learn a few tricks from Malaysia. Funny thing is that many of their health professionals are trained abroad, quite a few from the UK! And they then go on to improve their health care/services.
