These videos ... they are awesome. They are you fufilling the "promise" you made to use 8 years ago when you started Filmriot to take us "Behind the Scenes". I love these real BTS videos. Thanks Ryan (and team) for letting us have a REAL look behind the curtain.

Lo---ve those action squad, you are working with !!! The fight sequences in the natural speed appears to be a perfect & beautiful. No wonder you didn't feel there is the need for messing with running speed. TBH I felt Keau's martial arts actions in John Wick, is well choreographed form rather than the actual fight being taken place. Congrats on super episode !! Looking forward to see next special episode.

Hey Ryan, I was curious, how can you shout out those "stage commands" with out the mic picking it up. Or does the mic pick it up and you take it out in post? I've always wondered how they do that in the major films with the director yelling out commands but it never being in the films. Do you think you could do a film riot Monday or some sort of a tutorial for this? Thanks so much!
@lassegebauer214
@lassegebauer214 8 лет назад
Yeah, I had the same problem, we ended up recreating the scene by having the actor reperform his acting while watching the muted video but that wasn't ideal.... but I guess that is the only way this works and you simple need some good audio editing skills to fix this
@Edgargle
@Edgargle 8 лет назад
It's essential to record room tone so you can replace any voice or sound that you might have picked up during your shot. If you don't know what room tone is, it's the act of recording audio in the room your filming in and have it be absolutely quite. It's basically the subtle hiss during a scene.
@Paperbagman555
@Paperbagman555 8 лет назад
+The Blue Heart I used to think the same thing but apparently sound editors don't use them much at all because RT is sometimes recorded without all actors or crew present, so iron and the subtlest of sounds change. I heard they just look for ambience gaps in dialog or action and just loop them as many times as they need because it's better, more accurate room tone.
@10tmoore
@10tmoore 8 лет назад
Take it out in post. It's done all the time
@10tmoore
@10tmoore 8 лет назад
+Paperbagman555 we always try to get room tone, and always with gear, cast, and crew still in the room. Looping blank pieces of audio is frowned upon because there might be some form of sound bleaching in that isn't noticed until the edit

@SplitAxisProductions
@SplitAxisProductions 8 лет назад
The phone is used as a view finder, but the camera records everything, and yes it is very worth it, its the ultimate run and gun camera set up in my opinion, plus with the up gradable lens you can get some great footage.

Why are they using boom mics if meanwhile filming they are talking - giving instructions to actors? Will that audio be usable? Or what is the use of that?
@EricLefebvrePhotography

To synch sound FXs and dialogue in post / ADR?
@brandonse167
@brandonse167 8 лет назад
It's just nice to have, you may have sounds you want to isolate or something. You always want to shoot in ways that give yourself as many options as possible for when you edit your project. It can also work well as reference and may do good when trying to mix between dialogue that uses the mic and parts that don't.
@SAndSPictures
@SAndSPictures 8 лет назад
Just point the microphone towards the actors. Not the director. As long as you're not using a stereo mic, it shouldn't pick up the director talking.
@Ranger7Studios
@Ranger7Studios 8 лет назад
I noticed that you are using the Blimp backwards in most of the shots. Which way is the mic facing then? Is this done so that the blimp won't get in to the shot, or is it because the actors and grunting and making loud noises? By pointing the mic in the opposite direction, does this allow you to pick up the reverb from the room, thus protecting the audio from peaking? I was just wondering.
@10tmoore
@10tmoore 8 лет назад
It isnt, it's a blimp that mounts the boom closer to the front. It's odd, but it is still facing the right way

Leisha Auyeung is a different person than Ieisha Auyeung. Ieisha Auyeung was in two episodes of Arrow and also X-Men 2 along with other credits for stunts in bigger named movies. Not sure if it was a typo or not in her name for the crew credits for this short cause Leisha Auyeung is only listed as being credited in one film Jinxed - Cheerleading coach. But yes I believe it was a typo and it is who you believe she is who you think she is.

Hey I got a question about frame rates. I'm shooting with a Gopro at 60fps and a dslr at 24. When I finish editing and export it at 24fps, will the Gopro video shot at 60fps look weird? Wanted to ask before editing with premiere
@landolakes
@landolakes 8 лет назад
Depending on your shutter speed, you will notice a slight difference in motion blur. Generally, the "rule" is that your shutter speed should be double your frame rate, so 24fps becomes 1/48 (or 1/50) shutter speed, and 60fps becomes 1/120 shutter speed. Hope that helps. There are videos out there that show how shutter speed affects the look of your motion blur.
@live2lift273
@live2lift273 8 лет назад
+landolakes will there be complications if I export the 60fps video with the 24fps
@landolakes
@landolakes 8 лет назад
No, you'll be fine. As long as your timeline (check sequence settings) in Premiere is set to 24fps, your final export will be 24fps. The only difference will be the motion blur, depending on what shutter speed it was filmed at.
