Competitive athletes race to win. That’s the name of the game. That being said, when you watch this video and learn how Ari did at age groups, remember that he has only been swimming seriously for 6 months. As his swimming improves, he will DOMINATE!!! (Obviously I’m partial). So proud of you Ari! Love, Dad
You're improvement have been insane. I know you're a competitor and don't like losing, but I think you should be more happy with you're performance. Eliud Kipchoge said that him losing the London Marathon was crucial in him winning the Tokyo Olympics. Can't remember exactly what he said, but it was somewhere alone the lines of the fact that it humbled him, and showed the world that he is not impervious to losing, and made him train harder.
for those confused, i was at the race and actually raced myself. In the sprint distance, Ari was the first to cross the line. However, a 17 year old boy, Sam Tullis, was in the second wave and ended up just beating Ari’s time by .5 of a second. Great racing Ari! Met you after the olympic, it was a pleasure :)
Ari, as someone who made this similar transition to triathlon in the sport’s early days, I must say your progress is excellent. At this point while wins are nice progressing to balance as a triathlete is the goal. Your swim will get better over time. You have the engine, it’s just a matter of time !
I raced in the 19 and under age group, and competitive is an understatement. The fact that the overall sprint winners were under 19 goes to show how insanely difficult this race was, but that 5k time of yours is ungodly. What an amazing performance.
been a fan of yours since i saw your first on the Athlete special, but love triathlon so much more and love following you. grind the swim and keep grinding man. looking forward to see your progress
Those results are super good - your improvement is impressive. I'm a runner and cyclist who recently started swimming and it is a TRULY HUMBLING thing. There are so many technique and form things I don't even understand and I feel like I'm just blowing my lungs out doing 100 meters. I've thought about trying a Tri, but the swimming part really intimidates me.
three random comments: 1. excellent bathroom vlog shot 2. your 40km bike split was the most impressive of the weekend 3. thanks for this video motivation right before my first sprit tri! oh, and still hoping to see Lionel/Sam Long style race recaps :)
Loved the video! I was there and saw Ari for everyone wondering if he’s like in person what he’s like in the videos. The answer is yes, he was so nice and super funny for the moments i talked to him.
I empathize with the travel woes. I've slept on the floor in an airport more than once, and it took 24 hours to fly from Nashville to Boston one time. We do it for the sports we love, and it's all worth it!
You should come swim with the Amherst men’s team. We’re not too far and we can help you with the finer points that you only get from swimming for years
Great job!!! Rough go when your flight gets cancelled after events. Happened to me after the Chicago Marathon. Decided to drive back to Baltimore instead of flying all over god's creation to get there. My right leg hated me for weeks for that one.
Damn you did amazing, just learn from every moment. If you think you are not that good at swimming right now with those times, just wait till you perfect your form, you will be absolutely amazing. Keep it up. I qualified for age group nationals but didn't go cause I know I don't stand a chance, my finishing time is around 2:20:00.
Did u watch Tokyo triathlon? Alex Yee was competing against Jakob Ingebritsen in u20 level in X-country before deciding to go for tri 100%... So keep that in mind mate! 🔥
Having been a triathlete off and on for over 30 years, and having developed myself from being a mediocre swimmer to someone who can at least get into the front pack of my age group over that period (in fact in one of my very last races aged 49 I got out the water with the pros - 27 minutes for 2km of a combined ocean/Sand dune run/ river swim on less than 7km a week) I reckon … while obviously you need to improve from lots of swimming in the pool under the eye of a good coach … there are a bunch of open water swim ‘hacks’ you could also learn that will dramatically speed up the process of closing down that 5 minute gap. In other words, if you could drop 2 minutes in the pool for 1500M I could virtually guarantee you another 2 minutes just from learning how to find and stick with some fast feet of better swimmer. This may not get you to front pack, but almost guarantee you a position at the rear of the second pack. How does one go about acquiring such skills. Well, once Australia opens up for international travellers next year (hopefully) come down under for the off season of 2022/23 and spend 4-5 months swimming with the likes of Spot Anderson of ‘Bondi Fit’ or Vlad of ‘Vlad swim’ (both sydney based) or their equivalents in South East Queensland. Lots of open water training (and best of all) ocean races each weekend (sometimes you can get in up to 5 ocean swim races in one weekend if you want to around sydney alone). Come down under dude!
Swim stroke is looking more relaxed compared to the first ever swim you filmed many months ago! Push yourself, obviously, stay positive, obviously, and continue to work like you’ve been doing! 💯👍😀 One of my favourite quotes is by Simon Whitfield and it is simply, “chop wood, carry water!”
Really exciting to see you killing it out there. I was super impressed with your finishes! Very much looking forward to more triathlon content. Anyone have a suggestion on an affordable entry level road/gravel bike?
Mixing it with the big boys now! Here’s an idea for 2022 or 2023…. RU-vidr Triathlon! You, me, Taren, Dan, Matt Legrand etc no pro’s allowed… so don’t go pro 😉😂
Swimming definitely takes time and consistency (Ex college Swimmer) itll come just keep at. When you get that down youll be killing the game. Keep it up !!
ok yup its true your swimming "sucks" ;) ALL (including you) of us here know relatively speaking its good given you JUST started. I may be (probably am) off here but I feel like its the whole generational I want it now. Did you become a great runner in 6 months? But Im guessing you already know this :)
Important for me to be honest about where I am in the world of professional triathlon. When I’m 2 minutes back instead of 5 out of the water, I will let everyone know how far I’ve come, but today is not that day
@@archmdz Yeah all perspective, I didn't say you're almost there b/c given your goals you're not. You're just probably where or honestly ahead of where you should be given your time in the water
Run is definitely a ways back from where I used to be but main focus for a while will be swim and bike. Might take a few years to get back to the fitness I used to have on the run but if I can do that while handling the full training load I’ll be in a great spot
next time drive...NH to Milwaukee doesn't take 26 hours. If you have a van you won't have to reassemble your bikes and have them abused. plus no storm trooper masks and you can pick up sweet hitchhikers along the way . trust me.
You need to go back to training with Lionel Sanders. He improved immensely in swimming. You are surrounded by friends but Lionel is someone that will push you more.
