Hey!
I'm so excited to bring you guys this easy, on a budget DIY pergola for less than $240! I did the project in less than 4 days. This is a perfect quick & easy summer project. It gives you so much shade from the sun with the canopy & sheer net curtains...I love that you can open & close it and it's so big & roomy! You can also make it small if you like a cozier feel.
Also, by adding solar lights and string lights, it gives you that ambiance feel perfect for those summer nights. This is perfect for a patio or grass area no matter is you have a big backyard, small backyard, big patio or small patio!
I used concrete cinder blocks and wood post for this pergola because it's really durable and it can be renter friendly which means it's removable. If you want it to be permanent, you only have to do one extra step!
Finally, I just love the touch by adding some plants! I used dirt, lemon grass, spikes, dragon flowers, and other plants that I don't know the name of lol. Most of the plants are annuals!!!

I think painting the cinder blocks would soften the look of them. Your project came out beautiful!

The renter friendly inspiration I needed. Readymade gazebo weights are expensive, and we can’t drill into the ground or walls. Thank you! The lemongrass and flowers were a super cute touch.

First, Yes, most definitely, Lemon Grass repels mosquitos and some other biting bugs. I love what you've done here, It never would have occurred to me to glue two single blocks together. Unfortunately, I would have walked away disappointed and tried another day or somewhere else to get the double blocks which would have put off the project even further. I love that you used the other three holes to plant into and I love the curtains you put up around your pergola. I am going to look for your video on the material you used and also how you were able to put a canopy on your pergola. You did an absolute splendid job and it looks beautiful all the way to the light caps you purchased for your 4x4 posts. It is videos' like yours that give so many of us inspiration and I am very grateful that you took the time to make a video to share with all of us. May you have an enjoyable bite-free summer with many happy evenings on your beautiful patio. Many Blessings to you always. P.S. I am subscribing to watch more of your videos - Tip: You can also use peppermint plants to keep mosquitos away and also a mixture of Orange oil & Clove oil to keep ants and other crawlies off your patio, hope this helps some.

Wow Suzy!!! Your comment really made my day! I was really discouraged with the blocks at 1st because I originally bought the wrong blocks and I wasted money having to rent a truck twice by having to return them to get new ones. When I got there & noticed they didn’t have double blocks, I was thinking I have to make it work somehow. I remember it being like 90 degrees that day but I made it work lol. I’ll definitely try the peppermint plants & let you know how it worked! Thanks for watching and I’m happy I could help!

I am so excited to have found your pergola construction! Yesterday my patio was completed with laid pavers. Your pergola instructions are so complete I now know how to make them. I will use this info to add some sunshade as soon as your video adding a tarp is ready. I live in southern Arizona USA. It is really hot now, and our monsoon season should start this week. Am sooo ready for the rain.

Tentatively, after my posts are completed, I can hang a tarp on the hooks you installed on the wooden posts as a sunshade. I appreciate the creativity that you and your mother have shared with everyone. I am a "visual" learner and your video is perfect for me

♥️ 🙏 Hey!!! New to your channel! LOVE what you did here! (Makes me feel like a actually CAN do this all by myself instead of waiting 10 years for my husband to do it for me)! Love your plants! Guess what the top 5 mosquito repelling plants are: Lavender, Marigold, citronella grass (AKA lemon grass 😂), catmint & rosemary! I have found that many pesky bugs & rodents dislike peppermint, which I happen to love, so I always grow some in my backyard along with the other plants I’ve mentioned. & lots of basil! Thanks so much for sharing!!!

Good job. Lemongrass is effective for keeping mozzies away. Your dragon flowers are called Celosia, very pretty. I think they're annuals so they will probably die off. Plant mint in their place. Not only will it keep the bugs away but the sun will release the oils during the day and give you a sense of calm at night.

Coming from a she-builder - NICE to see another gal tackle such a project! Tip: posts must be anchored into ground at least 18", then concrete blocks staggered, mortaredor they'll shift, crack and posts won't stay secure.. Good job.
