Good playthrough, although as someone else has pointed out, the 'empty' spaces count when you are moving the excavator. It was good to see how the robots work because I've yet to start the campaign.

The empty spaces (wirhout rooms ) do count also whenever you place a dice behind the excavator!

You can also put dice on those spaces, they have no effect but sometimes it's useful to move ships to where you want them

Wonderful playthrough, Mike! While I've won Spirit Island and Black Orchestra, I have yet to beat this game on easy after four plays. I see you corrected the excavator movement rule that counts tunnel spaces in the video notes. When I watched I thought this must be why I am losing. Sadly, no. It is just me. Keep up the great work on your board game reviews!

In rulebook it says that you perform enemy ship actions after all of them are moved. At 32:15 you performed the “move mothership” immediately, causing the remaining ships on it go one more space further before placing worker dices. I just wanna make sure if that was a mistake, or if I didn’t understand the rules. Just got the game today and want to make sure to play it correctly. 😅

What makes you think you wait to resolve enemy effects from movement? On page 4 of the rules it says "Each time you place a die, all ships in that column descend...", and then on page 5 it says "Immediately after all ships in the column descend, they trigger any effects on their resulting spaces." So it's after all ships in that COLUMN have moved for that single die placement, not after all 5 ships have moved at the end of the Dice Phase. Hope that clears it up!

I enjoyed the play through. I did note that at 23:10 you incorrectly moved the white ship down only 3 spaces when the die was 4. This led to the white ship going to the wrong column then advancing into a kill zone and getting destroyed. Assuming you would put the last purple ship to be spawned on the last column where the white ship belongs, and take the same actions up to 27:35, the white ship would have been destroyed, but the 4th column would then have one ship just a 2 away from hitting your city and another ship 4 rows above it in the same column. So the ultimate result is the game winds up the same except for one more damage to your base. Although I wonder if you might have made different choices when you saw your base close to being hit.

Thanks for the playthrough. I have just ordered this game. In your very last turn you moved the mothership down but didn’t resolve the research reduction. Do you only resolve mothership effects in the mothership phase? Thank you so much. Great entertainment.

Correct, you can see the rule on page 5. You only resolve the icons on the right during the mothership phase movement, not from other mothership moves.

Great playthrough thank you, I like your strategy (and I'm hopeful I'll win my first game soon :) A note about arrows on the board You assigned a "4" at 23:05, but the arrow was only 3 spaces away from the white ship. Then the white ship moved 3 down, reached the arrow, and moved 1 space in the arrow direction. Shouldn't you have ignored the arrow, as it is not the final movement spot (4 spaces down)?

man just played my first game, it didn't really click for me at first but my game came down to the last roll of the dice... i get it now... it's pretty exciting, time to jump into the campaign

I don’t mind the speed. It has a nice arc of play each time, and it makes campaign mode easier to get through since you can string plays together without it taking an entire day :)

Just got the game and your video has been a great turorial. One 17:58 question at this point: when you moved the excavator back I see you moved it back 2 "rooms" instead of 2 "spaces" (it looks as if you moved it back 4 spaces in reality). What is the corrext way to move it? (The excavator movement has been the hardest for me to understand 😅)

I was moving it wrong in this video, skipping blank spaces. It moves by spaces not by rooms. Hope that helps

Ugh! Why, for the love of... why did CGE make it so BIG?! All of the additional content is really, really cool, and I’m glad they developed it, but a *significant* portion of the charm and appeal of the original was its *appropriately* small footprint (and portability)

Yeah, and there’s no real way to consolidate it. Like if you put half the alien board to the side, all your decisions will be confusing. But it still works fine on my game table, which for the foreseeable future is the only place I’ll be playing :)

I actually discussed that very question in detail in my top of 2020 video. Warp's Edge SLIGHTLY edges out UFS for me, but honestly they are both among the best games I've played recently.

When does the mother ship advance when you land on it? Immediately and then again in mother ship phase?

When you cause an enemy fighter to land on a "move the mothership" icon, yeah, it moves immediately. However in this case it does NOT resolve any icons the mothership's row contains. Then the mothership will move again, as normal, in its own phase.

When you had a die on an energy space and then moved at ship down that many spaces why did you not pay the energy ? I thought you have to pay wherever you placed the dice well, not necessarily the energy bar. Sorry, I only played this game ( Rosewell Beginner) give times and lost each time! Main problem is that energy bar 😕

I’m not 100% sure on what you are asking, sorry… But trying to understand, the ships move down in the dice phase (phase 1) when you PLACE the dice. But you don’t pay costs like energy until the room phase (phase 2). Does that help your question?

How do you spawn white ships when all the purple ones are at the mothership? Do I just choose one column and place the white ship right above a purple one to move basically right behind it?

Check page 9 of the rules for an explanation, but basically: 1 - When you gain one it goes on the mothership 2 - In the next spawn phase pick a column for it AFTER spawning all purple So yeah, it'll be in the same column as a purple ship, and both will move the value of the die you place in that column. So kill them quickly!

A succinct game introduction good illustration! Thank you. When I first play this game this week, I caught myself making a few mistakes. The move in ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q0hAKC4HyI4.html is one to be one of them. The rulebook page 5 said "Move the mothership.... If the mothership tile descends to the row marked by the skull, you lose immediately. Otherwise, you ignore the mothership actions." That was not ignored in after the mothership was defended. Not sure why the rule do that. It is a bit counterintuitive. Correct me if you have a different interpretation to the rule. Your thoughts.

Not sure if I’m understanding correctly, but you do NOT resolve mothership actions if it moves because of an enemy ship icon (what page 5 references), and you DO resolve the action when it moves at the end of the turn in the Mothership Phase (page 8). The reason for this is that you can, with clever ship management and play, have the mothership move past the worst icons without resolving them.

If I read the rules right then you are not allowed to move the robot, only remove it. You moved it once if I remember correctly.

You can use a robot room to install a robot die from one room to a different room, effectively “moving” it. Is that what you meant, or did I do something else?

Great playthrough but I don't understand the last move/win. You moved the mothership down at 32:15 after the enemy fighting landed on it. The mothership hits the -1 research on the side column but you did nothing? Should it move your counter back down 1 (+3 more to win). or just take 1 off the total dice you need that round? but I think you didn't have enough to win ether way as you "rolled" the exact amount? or do I have that wrong? I know this is an old video but I've only just ordered the the game :)

The mothership moves (in the moment you identified) from an enemy ship action. As it says on page 5 of the rules, you ignore any icons when the mothership moves from an enemy ship action (except the skull at the bottom for instant loss). So the -1 research is ignored here. If the mothership had moved there during phase 3 instead, absolutely I would have lost a research :)
