And who would give it to him? The useless bozos of the Oscar committee?! Nah! here's where we laugh! These morons couldn't tell right from left! Under ordinary conditions, Jerry Goldsmith should leave every time, the Academy awards festivities, with a truck full of Oscars! Instead of that however, in his long life of success, all he got from these idiots was just 1 win (The Omen), and another 17 nominations (...and unfortunately, "under Fire", wasn't even among them)! Face it brother...his best supporters, and providers of price (...the emotional one, that nevertheless, is the most priceless of all) were us....the simple people! Not these useless freaks from the Academy! May God rest your soul, our beloved Grand Master of the sounds!
I have never forgotten this badly underrated film of the terrible times in Nicaragua. The theme music is unforgettable and is one of my favourite movie themes. The closing is particularly special. Thank you Jerry Goldsmith.
VERY TRUE BRO! HIM, JOHN WILLIAMS, JAMES HORNER, AND A FEW OTHERS OF THEIR TIME, MADE TRUE HISTORY IN THE MOVIE INDUSTRY OF THE 20th CENTURY (...some of them, keep doing so, even to date) AND THEY LEFT THEIR WONDERFUL MARK, IN OUR HEARTS FOR EVER!.........R.I.P OUR BELOVED JERRY!
This wouldn't have ever been on my radar but it works so well in Django Unchained and having heard the whole score now, it's a great piece of work from Goldsmith.
Totally agree. Me too! One of my fav soundtracks from this creative man. Pat Metheny is ace choice for playing the guitar. (Top fav is The Wind and The Lion.)

Alex S. This collaboration with Jerry Goldsmith had a profound impact on Pat Metheny. He completely changed his approach to music as a composer as a result. Listen to PM albums. There are clearly two periods in his career : - Before “Under Fire” - After “Under Fire”. Jerry Goldsmith’s impact on Metheny was essential. “The First Circle” was composed right after his lifetime musical growth and change. Followed by “Still Life(talking)” and so on.
gorgeous, timeless, with memories of my youth - bittersweet as well, but when we had those days. thank you for passing this gorgeous document - timeless spirit , heartbeatingadveture ans breathtaking emotion acompanied by soul touching music - deep to our souls.. Linda & POLLY
Un chef- d’œuvre cette BO ! J'ai le CD depuis 20 ans au moins. Et mon frère avait acheté le vinyle en 1983... Jerry Goldsmith est un grand au même titre qu'un Williams ou qu'un Barry.
Thank you Gerry... Love to you for the musical trancentantal places we went through you... you leading the way... I am at awe at your magnificence... love.
Great movie! I found this by Djnago Unchaied and Nicaragua song is so great so I search the movie and watch. Is amazing a very intereting story about a historical movie and pretty accurate.
As far as I'm aware the original album/tape release in 1983 soon became very rare and only a German copy was available for a long time. This seemed to be a turning point in Goldsmith's career and the darker, more realistic scores from the mid to late 1970's and early 1980's gave way to increased synth use, sounded a little more mainstream and a bit 'softer' for most of the rest of the 1980's. I think it wasn't until 1990 and 'The Russia House' that Goldsmith got to score a film of this general kind again.
I bought the vinyl in 1983 (about $4.99) and had no problems getting it from Sound Warehouse then. Then about a decade later I tried to get it on a CD, but by then it was a $125 "foreign import" from Japan. CDs then probably would not have sounded better than the vinyl anyway.
Numinous20111 This was also, and even more, a turning point in Pat Metheny’s career. Essential and profound change in musical style, composition, approach to rhythm and arrangements. “The First Circle” was composed immediately after Jerry’s impact on PM career. Than came “Still Life (Talking)” and the whole myriad of albums in the same vein. Sadly, nobody remembers this timeless classic. “Under Fire” is one of the best PM recordings...
@@KrystofDreamJourney Thank you for your informative comment. I didn't realise Metheny's career was so influenced by 'Under Fire'. Tarantino's use of Goldsmith's end credits cue in 'Django Unchained' did help raise awareness of the 'Under Fire' score.
I’ve been studying Jerry’s scores profoundly for many many years... He was a true Giant, in the same caliber as Prokofiev, Bartok, Ogerman, Herrmann and others.
Damn..... this was album, was incredible, but the problem was, that it doesn't include the rather dynamic suite of the chase in the slams (...where Nolte is trying to escape from La Guardia, after witnessing Hackman, getting shot)! Why do they always do such stupidities, and exclude such great pieces, in such albums, is beyond me!
