Dont even fly near high power-lines! there is no possible reason to ever get near them. One of the most horrific things I ever witnessed was a guy in a hang glider trying to do spot landings at the base of a tower. He misjudged his approach and got tangled in the lines. For an hour he screamed for help, for someone to get him down. While the fire department was trying to figure out how to get him down a gust of wind rolled his wing across two of the high power lines. In 15 seconds of white light and screaming he was turned into a molten smoking un recognizable black lump of aluminum, nylon, flesh and bones.

@tuckergottuncut7180 what do you think about recording directly into an audio recorder? Sync with a hand slap. You could essentially use the same video for each channel and wouldn't miss a reaction or whatever. You could have a specific reason for the audio or just make it random thoughts. You do great narration but these uncuts really help me focus more on the flight. I catch more like your head on a swivel. I can alsmot see sometimes when you're calculating a maneuver. I would probably watch each video too lol. I kind of get lost in the raw audio. Would make for good VR too!

I'd be curious if a volt meter would pick up any charge going under those power lines. I have seen high voltage jump 10+ feet between objects.
@air-edge
@air-edge 6 месяцев назад
I work for The Power Company that owns the 500kv lines he flew under. I work under those lines and the equipment they feed every day. Voltage is a comparison of two different potentials. In this case it is either phase to phase (500kv) or phase to ground (284kv). If two phases of those lines were brought closer to each other they probably wouldn't arc to each other until they were at least 10 to 12 feet apart I'd guess depending on humidity or other factors. Tucker flying under them could only create the possibility of bridging one of the phases to ground, so that distance would be even less than 10 feet at only 284kv potential difference (phase to ground voltage) and that would be added between his distance from his feet to the ground and the distance from the top of his wing up to each phase line as he passes under. If he could stop and float under the line he may feel a little static like his hair trying to stand up or something, but he passes each phase so quickly, there's no way he feels anything. His biggest hazard here is hitting the tower or the line itself but close to the tower they are suspended about 90 to 100 ft high (they sag lower between towers) that's why he crosses under them close to a tower every time. Much more clearance distance. From what I'm seeing, Tucker is being smart about it. I see no more hazard here than when he flys under bridges in other videos.

For me... I'd say "just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD" fly around high voltage power lines like that. Even if your not at risk getting caught up in the lines, there's definitely a health risk from the EMF and the disruption to the body.
