FYI: one can yell fire in a crowded theater, it is in no way illegal or against the 1stA, it is a quote oft repeated from a 1919 case that had nothing to do about actually yelling fire, but about a socialist opposed to the draft. In 1969 Brandenburg v Ohio more clearly defined “protected speech”. You can still yell fire, but if this action “is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action.” you may face legal ramifications. The more you know 🌈 ✌🏼. As always great work people.

I feel like sometimes we get into the historians fallacy with the world of ice & fire. Especially when we get to the dance because now-a-days our priority is having the best leader because in a democratic system having multiple quality candidates is a positive. But in a society where regime change means blood & fire rather than lies & votes, the more candidates the worse it is for everyone. That’s how we see an objectively unfair system like primogeniture leading to more stability and peace than the more equitable distribution of inheritances under Salic law. Another place I think we run into this problem is with our perspective on trade. We think of our modern, capitalist era in which trade is the driver of economies across the globe and it is safe enough for a global system of trade to support more people than ever lived before. But trade wasn’t anywhere near that important in the Middle Ages and in late antiquity. It was agriculture that drove economic & population growth, trade wasn’t even an after thought…even for advanced states in premier trading positions like the eastern Romans. So peace did not actually guarantee more prosperity than war, and the rising tide did not lift many ships.

i know that even george says pronunciation isnt important and theres alot of wiggle room with most names. but i find it so distracting when you pronounce names with YS in them as EES instead of ISS. for example CorlEES instead of CorlISS or VarEES instad of VarISS ( corlys and varys) more examples mad king arys (arISS not arEES, in this episode horys (pronounced like the modern name horace, not horEES) i feel like the proper way to pronounce names in ASOIAF is to lean more towards the modern/anglicized names that george is basing thrm on.
