Hey Chris! Wonderful video!!! Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I spent my early childhood in Teaneck, NJ and my Dad, being in the professional theatre, always took the bridge into the city for shows, rehearsals, etc. And as a kid, I had a copy of the book THE LITTLE RED LIGHTHOUSE. I remember trying to look down and see the lighthouse whenever we'd go across the bridge. Gosh, it's so tiny, isn't it? Anyway, thanks for the nostalgia and for sharing your work and art with us. All the very best!

Chris: Did you happen to catch that? Had to do a double-take on THIS end LOL! Your very first words to start the video: "Look how amazing this is..." Watching the traffic, it's at that EXACT same time when you were saying that was when a semi-truck was going over the bridge and on the side of the trailer in huge lettering was the word "AMAZING". I gotta see that again. That was cool! Hehe!

I ride my bike a lot on the NY side. There's a dedicated bike trail that starts in Battery Park in Lower Manhattan and runs all the way past and under the GW Bridge, ending up in Spuyten Duyvil at the northern tip of Manhattan. You can spend a whole day just doing that entire coastline.

The area he was used as a Campground before construction of the bridge. When the bridge was built the Campground area was used to house the bridge workers. I think it opened up again once the bridge was built, but the water quality was very bad and no one wanted to swim in the Hudson. But the water quality is improving so maybe one day they will truck in some sand and allow folks to swim again like they did one hundred years ago.

What you say about the anchorage is true. My grandfather worked on the NJ side. They drilled and blasted down into the palisades. I think I remember him saying about 700 feet. Also like you say the NY side is anchored into a massive monolithic pour of concrete at about 180th street in Manhattan. Being held in place only by its sheer massive weight. I was raised in that area and always liked visiting palisades interstate park and would access the park from the road going down the cliff from the top of the palisades ave hill in Englewood at the palisades interstate parkway.

The cliffs of the Hudson River go far north past Albany (the NY capital)… lived off of GSP exits 168-172 (Westwood/Montvale NJ), as well as in the NY border towns of Nanuet, Nyack, South Nyack and Piermont…. The drive south is n the palisades parkway, at night, as you come over the darken hillsides and are suddenly presented with the GW bridge and all of urban NYC and NJ (fort Lee,etc) lit up like the Las Vegas strip, is an awe inspiring initial view of the big Apple
