Wonderful vehicle to see and described. Are all of these autos in the oxnard facility? when I last visited Oxnard I don't think many of them were there. Will the museum be open this winter?

Thanks so much for your kind words. The "Under the Hood Extended Tour" programs were conceived, written, filmed, directed, hosted, and edited by the Museum docents themselves. It has truly been a labor of love and way of working to enhance your understanding of the cars in this most fabulous collection. Our hope is that you will enjoy yourselves even more when you come to visit the Museum, and to meet us.

Two small pieces did not survive the film edit. First the small brass plugs that allow access for measuring the tolerance between the camshaft and the finger-style cam followers. Just below those elegant brass plugs are small screws with a lock nut securing them. Once one has made the valve lash measurement, it can be adjusted by unlocking the slot-head screw so it can be rotated. it is part of the pivot shaft for the three curved finger-style cam followers. Rotating the adjusting screw will pull the curved finger back or forward changing the clearance between the cam and the finger's curved shape.I have never done this. The brief description of Bugatti's positive camber ended before we understood that Bugatti axle's kingpin is always vertical, thus the tire-center contact point requires the camber to tuck the tire inboard to align directly under the kingpin, inadvertently creating positive camber. Bugatti steering is both light and positive. Before you retire for the night, do visit Amazon and order the Haynes Bugatti Type 35 (1924 onward) owners workshop manual. I will never have the opportunity to own a Type 35, but I do spend a lot of time in this inexpensive library treasure.

Larry, Thanks so much for the update. I am so sorry we had to leave a lot of what Larry had to say on the cutting room floor. We were under a strict 20 minute time limit. I assure you Larry is a fountain of information concerning every little detail of these fabulous cars! There are a couple of ways you can avail yourself of his knowledge: (1) Enroll in one of his classes at Art Center College of Design. (2) Read any of the thousands of articles he has written for some of the most prestigious publications in the world (You have about 40 years of them to peruse!). (3) Come visit the Mullin Museum on a day when Larry is guiding tours. (Please call ahead to find out when that will be). We were only ably to offer you a taste of what he brings to the table. Then again this was our mission: to entice you to visit the museum! Danny Soukup Producer / Director: Mullin Under the Hood: Extended Tour

I dont like how you are insinuating that we are "lucky" that we have been granted the kings permission to open...yes...open the door to Lord Peter Mullins Bugatti. I mean come on guys , lets keep some perspective please.

Hi there! When I started at the museum a few years back, we were in the midst of the Citroen exhibit - the only one in 100 years devoted to the Citroen marque. Now Citroen has made some truly extraordinary cars in it’s history. But let’s face it, they are not as expensive as Bugatti’s. So I thought, “Come on guys, why can’t we at least open the hood on the 2CVs?” So I have a question for you: Really, how often do you open the hood of your car - your daily driver? After a short time of opening the 2CV hood (bonnet -GB) many times a day, one of the hinges began to crack. Can you imagine the cost of repair if this had happened to a Bugatti, let alone to the Xenia or the Atlantique? If you even touch one of the aluminum or magnesium surfaces without properly wiping it down afterwards, your fingerprints will be permanently etched into the surface! So it has nothing to do with the adoration of Mr. Peter Mullin, it has everything to do with hood stewardship of these wonderful cars. Jay Leno once said to me, “You know Dan, none of us really ‘OWNS’ these cars, we just take care of them for a while. If we pass them on in good condition we have done our job.” Please come see for yourself once we have reopened. I’d enjoy meeting you. And thanks for your honest thoughts!
