John Rothschild is the CEO of Prime Restaurants Inc., which has over 140 casual dining restaurants in Canada and the U.S., including East Side Mario's. He goes undercover in the restaurant in a bid to check the front lines of the business. With the explosion of family dining restaurants, East Side Mario's is fighting for customers and Rothschild is worried that his brand is starting to look dated. But his own staff and customers have surprising solutions to reviving business, and when he reunites with the people he worked alongside, he makes a big difference to both their personal and work lives.[25]

I can certai ly relate to her i was a addict and alcoholic for 12 years and am now 13 months sober and people have no idea how hard it is to get sober and dont understand that we dont choose to be addicts once addicted its very hard to escape that and people love to judge and place stigmas on addicts and have no idea the internal torture we go through and i was homeless for 10 months living out of abandoned buildings or anywhere i could find or being in a blizzard in buffalo new york freezing and not sleeping just to keep yourself warm and survive people need to educate themselves and understand addiction rather then judge and frown on addicts.

@MatthewSmith-wv5fi
@MatthewSmith-wv5fi 5 лет назад
@@chriskowalski7038 it depends on which generation you are referring to and what industry they were in. Government workers in Canada, for example, tend to retire at 53. The self-employed, by contrast, tend not to retire ever. Then there's the inbetweeners that are neither self-employed nor government workers...read...the majority. They tend to get the worst deal. They often come out of retirement. They are more likely to end up unemployed and more often. Further, as a result of the aforementioned, they have the biggest difficulties with saving for retirement. For the largest class of workers, education has a near invisible impact. There are only so many executive and management positions available in a country with 38 million people. Not only does our economy need a full rethink, our political entrenchments need to be flipped on their heads.

@marklipson

My wife was at a girls' night out so I was batch-ing it and didn't feel like cooking. But I had a powerful hankering for pasta -- nothing fancy: just some pasta and alfredo sauce. I saw East Side Mario's had an all-you-eat pasta special at the time, so I dropped into my neighbourhood location...The first time in about 15 years I ate at the franchise. I had the Sausage and Pepper Penne. It was so salty, peppery and spicy-spicy-spicy-hot, most people would have considered it inedible. I figured, why complain? -- just order another dish. So I chose the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. It contained maybe 4 small chunks of chicken and was so salty that, again, most diners would have considered it inedible. So I just asked the server for another bowl of "endless" Caesar salad...When it finally came 15 minutes later, it was less than half the portion I got to start my meal and was mostly dead romaine with a meager sprinkling of dressing, croutons, cheese and bacon bits. I then checked my watch (remember, I was flying solo that night, had nothing better to do, so I wasn't in any hurry)...I had been there more than an hour and half, during which time: - I ate one mini-loaf of bread, - one medium bowl of Caesar salad, - one crappy plate of sausage penne, - one smaller, almost as crappy plate of chicken fettuccine alfredo, - one noticeably smaller bowl of terrible Caesar salad, - and drank three ginger ales because my tastebuds had been scorched by the over-spiced pasta. I then realized the server had been to my table over that entire time to ask me only once if I wanted more pasta (I had to flag her down after a considerable wait to order my second serving of salad), but by some miracle of timing she had been able to slide by the table offering a drink refill or something else from the bar three more times. That's when I realized that the whole "spicy inedible food" thing had been more than an isolated, one-off, "these things sometimes happen" crappy meal. This had been their plan. Now before anybody thinks I'm being too critical on the restaurant and the chain for a temporary problem, y'know, the result of a busy or inexperienced cook, there is not a chance in hell that this wasn't a completely calculated money grab (nope, I don't care whether by the whole chain or just this particular location)... If you were trying to design a way to market an all-you-can-eat special to bring people into your establishment, offering limited choices of bone-simple dishes, but making sure you can control how much your customer will eat (while singeing their tastebuds, driving them to your more profitable liquid refreshments), this is almost exactly how you would do it. Once menu and service strategy are in place, the server just has to time their service/non-service intervals right. And before someone further argues that the whole idea of a special like that is to PROMOTE their business and future restaurants, so why would any restaurant threaten their reputation for good food and the potential of repeat visits by their customers by serving disappointing crap...? Simply put, greed and ignorance. The quick buck. This month's store sales figures. A nice little pop in corporate quarterly financials, maybe a rise in stock price, maybe some nice executive bonuses... Who cares "why"? What does any of that have to do with a consumer who was willing to pay a reasonable price for a simple meal being so roundly cheated in seemingly deliberate and orchestrated fashion...? Did I complain? No. It seemed to me that anyone that good at systematically extracting my money while being so pathetically bad at making sausage penne and fettuccine alfredo probably wouldn't be worth the effort.

Friday/Saturday night is date night traditionally for all restaurants. So, here we have a business that is offering a ridiculous deal on the most ridiculous days off the week. I used to love East Side Marios, but the prices is too much for me. I never had an issue with the food, it always tasted great. Always got the wedding soup. Campbell sells a wedding soup, err, starting to ramble.

I have got to say this, I am an American an been to Canada I I have never seen so nice of people in my Life as there. Every where I went there all were very pleasant an they didn't kno w I was American unless they seen my license plates. Father in heaven thankyou for giving the great Canadians our neighbours. Love you Canadiuans, I live in Alaska but am from Montana, worked on ranch till I got hurt.

The biggest mistake East Side Marios made was that they "changed" with the times. Huge mistake.

15 does sound a bit much but bread plate, entrée, main, pizza plate, dessert, coffee cup and saucer, water glass, wine glass, dessert dish. It adds up. And then there's all the cutlery.

The dishwashers could use water proof bib aprons like you see meat cutters use so not working in wet cloths.

I grow suspicious that so many of the employees that the bosses work with have tragic/sad/dramatic life events behind them in the series of programs. Just too many for them not to have been specially selected for the shows. Don't get me wrong, they are still pretty outstanding for what they do, so all praise to them.

Yeah it kinda is. Sad stories like that make for better viewing and the producers know, so they'll do whatever they can to guide the story in that direction

I worked at the east side Mario’s in Regina . Kelsey was great but the other managers were complete assholes - they gave you zero training and support . They then gave you 5x tables at once . I asked for help and they said screw you so I flipped them off and left mid shift

There used to be several in the Rhode Island area, but they disappeared about 20 years ago, if not longer. I found it mediocre at best with all the good independent Italian places in the area. I wonder if there are any left in the states?

I wonder if Kelsie has seen a dentist or chiropractor for her headaches.. I went years seeing doctors about headaches.. Finally a dentist said I was clenching my teeth all the time especially at night. He made a night mouth appliance and how to realize when you are doing it during the day.. My headaches are greatly reduced, and now I only get about 3 to 5 migraines a year when it was around twice a week...

Much better dishwashers are a must; those shown are way to small and a very slow way to do mass dishes. NEVER have cutting edges that are sharp in a unsorted cutlery pan. Bad for edges and very dangerous to workers. Only cutters ion a individual container that goes straight into a high pressure steam cleaner.
