Exactly. There never was a Palestinian state because there is no such place as "Palestine". This word "Palestine" was created by the roman empire to piss off the Jews. They did pic up a Hebrew word that means invaders/colonizers and from that word they got "Palestine". In the time of the roman empire they call all that area Syria Palestina and then the arabs did pic up that name to claim the land. A leader of the so called "Palestinians" named Zuheir Mohsen in 1977 said "The Palestinian people does not exist … there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese. Between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese there are no differences. We are all part of one people, the Arab nation [...] Just for political reasons we carefully underwrite our Palestinian identity. Because it is of national interest for the Arabs to advocate the existence of Palestinians to balance Zionism. The name "Palestine" was made by the Romans as punishment to the Jews for the Bar Kohva Rebellion, so the Romans changed the name of the land to Syria-Palestina in the name of the Jewish 2 biggest enemies at that time, the Syrians (Arabs) and the Philistines (Greek).

I'm a very firm supporter of Israel, but this childish argument does not help the Israeli cause. Nobody disputes that there was never a "country/nation" called Palestine. So what? There definitely WAS a geographical region (roughly Judea/Samaria) named Palaestina by the Romans in retribution for what they saw as Jewish treason/insolence because of their repeated attempts to overthrow Roman rule. And for about 1,600 years that region had a Jewish presence, but that presence was never a majority, and Jews were not allowed in positions of authority, neither by the Romans/Byzantines nor later by the Caliphate. Nature abhors a vacuum, and so other people began to populate the land. What are we to call these new inhabitants? A people are normally referred to by the name of the land in which they live, or vice versa. These people had no single name before they entered the area of the Roman Empire/Byzantine Empire/Caliphate/Turkish Empire known as Palestine (Filastin/فلسطين), so in this case we call them after the name of the land. They were never independent, but they DID exist. What else are we to call them? The word "Arabs" is much bandied about, mainly by people who don't know what it means.
