In these days when trust in the police is regularly questioned (often rightly) it’s important to remember that lots of them are there to do the right thing too. I did 30 years in ‘the job’ and regularly worked with guys in north London like Sukie. Like him I lost faith in the job. Thanks for this balanced interview mate.

Brilliant interview, with a lot of insight into what actually took place on the streets of North London Sukie is a great communicator Nice one Dodge.

Alright mate, I just got to say, when we all went into Afghanistan previously the taliban had been reducing the poppy fields thinking that this would appease the west, the truth is production reached record levels, it went from 187 metric tonnes a year to 3.700 by 2007.....and as an addict I can tell you, 6 months before 9/11 all the heroin in Bristol went really sketchy, by 2003 onwards it was banging stuff, really strong and unusually pure, and that lasted until 2017, it has become inconsistent again....love the show dodge!!!

I was a kid in the 60s/70s, half my childhood was spent in the city of bath, in my street there were people from Poland, Hungary, Trinidad, Jamaica, India and hong kong, like he said, if you are brought up with that, its just normal

Loved the two copper interviews dodge, just a dark and very sinister place to work as a copper, especially the parasites that prey on the weak, and even your own will throw you under the bus!

I love what he said about growing up in a multi racil area; you're either an arsehole or you're not. From the age of five my mates were English, Scottish, Irish, west indan African Pakistani, Greek and Turkish. We were in and out of each others houss eating with each others families friday i might have rice and peas for tea in Derek's House, Saturday Derek would come round mine for pie and mash .life as gone on that way for sixty odd years. These days people arrange play dates for their kids with other kids of the same race religion, nationally and social class they grow up never knowing any body from a different background and consider themselves anti racist and really modern

He couldn’t really accept any police corruption in his own organisation, he fended that off . I’m sure he’s a good guy but did he “turn a blind eye” because of hid new contracts ? You should have asked him about the masons to see if he gave the same answer “ I’ve never seen it “

They have to be corrupt, in that you have to show you have bigger teeth than the villains. Otherwise you simply cannot win, coz if you play it straight by the book, you have to abide by rules and as long as they dont, how can the good guys ever win? They cant. So we develop teams in the police and the military who are essentially deniable assets, or are at least willing to take on that purpose. Its these teams that do things the public really dont want to know about, they have remits the public dont want to know exist and certainly dont want to know about the things that have to be done, in order to keep the public safe. Its in those shadows that these guys thrive. So a question, what would you rather have, predators you have no protection from, who will do the worst possible things to you and your famiky, or have you and yoir family sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because tough men stand ready to do violence on your behalf? For this to happen, you cannot play by some bullshit set of rules written by the happy clappy brigade.......so if thats corrupt, which some say it is, then so be it.

I worked in Haringey the same time as him. Didn't know him personally but have worked with, and am good friends with officers that worked with him. All say he is a good bloke and an excellent copper, who has taken some very nasty people off the streets.

Great, great interview... just one thing - not having heard of Jon Wedger (based in London not up North) or Maggie Oliver I find hard to believe, he also appeared to avoid the grooming gang question. However, he had a amazing career and doing well for himself now which is good to hear. Have him on again, see if he opens up a little more, thought he was holding back on some things, or his life in the job has made him cautious.

This has always been a problem with police, an expert ‘drug cop’ believes that fentanyl is ‘like diazepam but stronger’. Their knowledge should be much better than that. Diazepam is a benzodiazepine, an anti anxiety muscle relaxant. Fentanyl is an opioid painkiller, works similarly to morphine and other opioids but is maybe 50x more potent. These guys should be better trained on this stuff for multiple reasons

Fab podcast really enjoyed the insights. Man he must be proud of the career he’s had. 88 crack houses, that’s incredible. Greatly appreciated how the interviewer guided but never steered the guest in any one way it felt very natural.

I'm from a traditional mining village in the middle of Yorkshire, we had a beat Bobby, his name was ivan Washington. If I was a lil shit as I was in them days. Not talking like street robbery or knife crime ect or race ect I'm talking bit of permanent marker writing on the park or going on the back of a pals yammy rx100 2 stroke with no helmet type of deal. If he was about his was the ipitomy of firm but fair, nothing but respect for the bloke, now it's pure disrespect that has happened in the 90,s n late 000,s after that with my daughters generation with phones and the woke brigade life has gone to shit. Nothing but re5for the police. If I was wrong I needed pulling to one side n maybe getting the odd clip mum did her best being a single mum back then. Now the hate on uk coppers is a struggle for them. I did worse growing up. But realised the wrongs in my ways have a mint lil family, I graft 6 days and go football with my lil man every Sunday. My 16 year old daughter is doing well. I genuinely put that down to ivan, and knowing the right from wrong. Mental how times change. Another belter fella.

Fantastic interview! The lack of respect towards the police changed when Blairs government changed Police Force to "Police Service" it all went down hill from there, unfortunately.

Good on ya mate. This brings backs lots of memories of YR back in the day, I remember learning a lot from you and others on the Task Forces! Sad that we left The Job at the same time for exactly the same reasons.

"We want to reflect the communities we serve". Instead of realising the police is it's own community. Like the special forces community. That doesn't serve communities but upholds the law in those communities. Or at least that's how it used to be.

Great interview. I am very dubious at one reaction! Did not know maggie oliver and John Wedger? Really?? Shows how toxic those two are against police inaction.... or covering known modern day slevery. Who he struggled with. Sorry he's staying clear of that subject. Goes to show how brave Maggie and John are! This one? I have doubts at this point and im saddened as initially i liked him.

Fent isnt like a benzo its a synthetic opioid prescription drug which is much stronger than both heroin and morphine but works in muvh the same way by binding to the bodies opioid receptor.

Excellent interview. I would have been one of those officers he was slagging off coming out of Stoke Newington Nick whilst he was in the pub 🤣🤣 I was there at exactly that time 🤣. He explained things perfectly. Back in those days it was a different era with different rules. I managed the full 30 years but took a different route going into dog section. I was threatened with knives. Shot at. Met the prime minister for a bravery award etc etc. nothing exciting really but even after all that I still didn’t go to work scared. I went in excited about what was going to happen. Loved it all apart from probably my last 2 years. Same experiences really and I couldn’t wait to get out. Well done both I loved listening 👍🏻👍🏻

When you integrate the private sector into the criminal justice system, then you will never solve crime. In fact if anything, it will make it worse since corporations will require certain fulfilment rates to run to capacity. That means repeat customers. No incentive to solve/prevent crime but just to facilitate the system to process repeat customers - sorry offenders

I grew up on the kingsland road (murder mile) and worked in Hackney downs for over 10 years never had any problems

Amazing interview as always. He actually seems like a genuine guy who wants to do the right thing for everyone. By what he says he sounds fair. I can relate to the “switch” I get asked how I can do what I do and he was spot on, it’s a switch that you don’t even notice goes on, when you meet the ppl others fear. If you can’t switch off you’d go insane with what (in my profession) you hear. I couldn’t imagine doing his job. My clients come for therapy after a lifetime in crime and prison. You can’t think about anything but them and helping get them on the right track. If like he said you got hung up on the victims or what could happen to you if you upset them, you won’t last long. That’s not to say you don’t care, quite the opposite. From what I saw and heard he seems like a decent bloke. Good on him. I’m not sure about not seeing bent coppers, but you stay safe by not seeing things, so understandable why he’d say no when others say yes. Unlike some comments I believe him about the grooming gangs, they weren’t necessarily on his radar at that time or was pushed into a corner and told what he’d lose if he didn’t stay in his own lane. I want to believe from the interview he’d try his best to reduce harm, which could well be why he left because of the corruption. One man can’t take those lot on, as we heard from Jon the whistleblower look how much Jon lost because of the police and those above them, it’s bigger than one man or even one force. We all want rid of them but the success rate is so low no matter how high you go, because it’s a higher white collar problem made to look blue collar. The ones I’ve had the misfortune to be around walk like they’re untouchable. It take the big boys to police it themselves and show in the criminal world they’re definitely not untouchable. Or real heroes like Jon. Just my opinion I don’t expect anybody to agree, as is their right. I must agree with the majority, Dodge you are the best in your podcast field. 👏

Opioids are overpriced and addictive and fatal in 5 years or less and poverty is guaranteed with an opioid addict, where is the attraction it’s senseless, what kind of business kills its customers faster than they can be replaced? It’s a futureless business and happiness is not the aim ,it’s about nasty people killing people, pleasure or recreation or happiness doesn’t have anything to do with illegal drugs.drug dealers are offering terminal illness as a way of life it’s idiotic.✌️❤️🇬🇧

Without going in to details, I’ve seen it first hand a bent copper on the take. But definitely the policing is not as it used to be. Sukie is what you call a police man that’s done his apprenticeship starting from the bottom and worked his way up, which is such a shame that they don’t produce them like that any more.

İf you're a decent copper,you stand for good you have integrity and you decide to leave the job because you're disheartened and essentially ashamed of what the organisation has become, why not stay and try and win those small victories to make it a better place. Whilst i understand that buerocracy and everything else can get the better of you ,i would much rather remain and try and leave as much positivity behind as i can. Its a secure job , regular pay what else can we ask for. All of our family in blue 💙💙💙💙 stay strong. "Evil will prevail when good people standby ,turn their backs and do nothing"

I lived and worked in the Manor House pub on Green Lanes in early 2000’s. Saw my fair share of violence and despair from drugs dependence. Saying that it was also awesome and I cherish the years I lived there.

It’s crazy how many shootings he is talking about. It’s like he’s talking about Compton?! This stuff just does not make the news??

Oh and when you watch Maggie Oliver talk, your emotions are triggered as we cannot ever understand how the things she says are allowed to go on unpunished or even considered to be investigated to convict so many wicked and truly evil people. 🙂🙏🏡

Fantastic interview lads, well done. I think the attitude changed and the respect for authority stopped when Tony Blair took charge and using European human rights laws, criminals started having more rights than victims.

The respect stopped when the youth started listening to RAP music which is designed to manipulate the youngsters imo
