The US has highest incarceration rate in the world. You can build more prisons to house them, or change society so there is less reason the steal, less poverty, better education, social services, community networks.Apparently prisons are more profitable. Any programs to help the situation are labeled welfare, socialism, or even communism. Congress voted to remove the funding for imprison
Thats why police have not been going all out on arresting them. Its basically a waste of their time. People cry that they don't do their job but why bother if these people are just let back onto the streets. Think about it, it's a joke
I was law-enforcement officer for only four years. It was heartbreaking to watch you put 12 hours into a case of arresting a group of people and then watch the judge just throw it out and let them go free.
@@Petergalvanin cases like this where there is theft in California. A vast majority of the time the district attorney or judge will throw out the case. There’s many times it has been documented and as a country Americans should be ashamed of what’s going on in California.
@@Petergalvan I don't believe you understand how a States Attorney has leeway to prosecute, or not... and how its affected the absolute skyrocketing of crime and associated inflation.

Theft is criminal and needs SERIOUS PUNISHMENT!!!!
thats not what the second amendment was about tho... sadly you dont know or realize that.. but are quick to run ur mouth,.., how quick someone could use those very words against you in some form or another and you'd be popped off just as easily
All states have to do is change the laws to their legislation. If you snatch and grab, you should get 15 years in prison. Then people will stop stealing. Don’t just catch them and let them go in a couple hours so they can go do it again. They should have to be doing community service for hundreds of hours or go to jail.
this makes the shopping experience horrible when undercover weirdos are watching every step you take in a store. idiots soon people won't go to your stores
Simple answer. A political party has taken away consequences for breaking the law. Easily solved. Bring back consequences for breaking the law. I love how the reporters are so dumbfounded. Quit your job, find someone who has a spine and is intelligent enough to report facts.
I dont understand this for the life of me... the whole theft thing! Yall, if I have no money I stay at home, like I dont even go out to look at anything let alone steal. If these were my family members they could never come to my home. I feel like if you can steal from a store then you could steal from me. We need to come up with a better resolution to this.
ALL YOU NEED IS TO HAVE FISH NETS RAISED ABOVE THE ENTRY WAY. HAVE AUTO DOOR LOCKS ACTIVATED BY REMOTE CONTROL. LOCK DOORS DROP DOORWAY NETS FIRST. THEN DROP INSIDE DOORWAY NET TO GET THE FOOLS IN THE BACK.
The DA's need to charge them with RICO, organize crime (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations ). Eveything they stole together is over $900 and hit them hard
idea: in high risk stores, change how customers enter; have doors locked till each customer shows a licence and their face to a camera. This way, anyone who ends up robbing is easily identifiable on cameras.
Im going to be honest, retail in general besides the theft that is going on, is not what it use to be. From customer service, to the work environment, to having employees "deterr" theft through customer service and even then employees get repurcussions for either not servicing a client or thiefs get agressive verbally or physically. Rules at work places have more gray areas where there shouldnt be. And that is why most shopping is happening online and prices are going up as well.
First offense should be a mandatory 100hrs of community service for stolen items worth more than $50. If thieves had to pay to waste their time like people who get caught with dui's more young people would think twice about breaking the same law again. Stupid law makers.👿👎
Oh. Good. The arrested probably face as many as hours of being inconvenienced before a simpering DA apologies, glares at the police, and personally escorts them out of the station to escort them back to freedom.
There is a way to combat this besides hiring security guards or lock expensive merchants. We should make a national merchant identification card that we all must have to be able to enter a store by scanning into a machine. Without the card, you will not be able to enter the store. If the card is lost or stolen, the card owner person is responsible to report it so anyone uses a lost or stolen card will sound the alarm on the machine. This way, if merchants are stolen from retailer, the record on the card identifies who the perpetrator was.
Here is the problem, NO PUNISHMENT, THE LAW IS WAYYY TO SOFT, SHOULD BE 3 YEARS IN PRISON AND 50,000 FINE, that will surely make them think twice,. They need to make a new law for this kind of theft.
I think the only reason they even started arresting the thieves and are talking about changing the laws is because they see several large and small stores closing their doors and leaving the area like they did in San Francisco and Seattle.
Why don’t they make the fine or charges more severe, it might help prevent the problem a little. knowing they could do it and if getting caught nothing really happens first time
Should be cracking down on inflation and this whole thing wouldn’t be happening. Oh and increase minimum wage it’s not even close to the cost of living. In turn people robb to survive that’s life
these should be reclassed as organized crime. billions are lost, hundreds of thousands of people lose their jobs, stores close all over the country, and yet the people causing this are charged with petty theft.
Politicians are letting this happen on purpose. Once the small businesses, and brick and mortar stores are closed down guess who’s left? Amazon and Walmart
They won't reclassify it as organized crime because they don't think minorities are smart enough to organize for crime because when you think of organized crime you think of white mafioso of Italian descent, or possibly Russian or Irish descent
Interesting how you don't see any Florida cities on the list. Palm Beach has some of the highest value stores as NY and LA but nothing. It was tried and the sheriff's department came down with a vengeance and put a stop to it.
There are still punishments for misdemeanors. I don't know why people keep perpetuating the lie that you can still commit crimes if they're misdemeanors.
California people should not be allowed to vote. Other states should do it for them. They are all too high anyway even if they still had a brain cell left to make any judgements. @@slomo4672
On board with this ALL THE WAY! If you work Retail…you know…we’re ALL sick of these thugs!! We ARE put in the middle but have no power to stop the theft! Some employees have even lost their lives! Enough!
Shops should make it clear to their employees that they shouldn't stop thefts and are not liable in any way if they do. But if an employee does fight back to stop the thieves, there shouldn't be any repercussions.
That WILL NOT HAPPEN. it sets the precedent for fraud where all liability is on the owner now. medical bills, and more. man when i was in New York, these Hispanics have it down to a science. they know who own the chop shops, junk yards, and local clinics they have it to where whatever the insurance pays can be direct deposited to your bank regardless of what accident happened or even cash after they take their own cut. No owner will take that risk, and no insurance will want to insure that owner if they have a history of allowing employees to take that risk. the only person that can do it, is the owner.
@@ThatsOPV If an employee does in fact stop a thief, should he or she be fired? Correct me if I am wrong, but there was a case where an employee was fired for simply revealing the license plate of the car of some shoplifters. Was that justified?
People making comments like this are dumb. Did you know thr $950 threshold is actually lower than most states? In Texas it's like $2500, I nevads its $1200. It has absolutely nothing to do with prop 47 and all to do with cuts in police forces and police officers simply not responding to petty crimes like that also.

Newsome in California allows stolen up to $900 and no criminal charges. Ten crooks come to stores can steal $9K. Do that with 5 stores they will have $45K in one day no hard work 😂😂😂.
@BadBloodNTheCommonGround I live in a lily W city of 99K We are fine because we make wind chimes out of criminals My post stands diversity not worth it America has never been so divided and I have lived long enough to have seen 14 US presidents
Maybe hard for you to believe but these could be hardworking people trying to pay this RENT😢. I am sure they are not going to live in a tent with all this stuff.
My corner store just got robbed on Wednesday. Three guys work at the store one at a time. 5 dudes walked in masked with hoodies, pulled a gun, took the drawer, two bottles of Hennessy. They then hit the store right up the street took the drawer and a rack of black and milds. No arrests made.
I remember catching a shoplifter working security. The person was carrying a bag from last Christmas season from Victoria Secret. I watched them and saw they had bags from retailers that weren't even in the mall. When I let the boss know we got them in for questioning and as we went through the bags recovered over $2000 in merchandise.
The sad thing is for mom and pops store they can’t raise their prices or customers will go somewhere else. The animals that does this kind of crimes are just selfish greedy lazy useless and soon to be full time criminals.
Rich kids from my high school always shoplifted $1,000's of dollars and never got into trouble. Now as an adult if you go to a Hollywood party for example there will be a lot of wealthy people doing a certain drug and no consequences, no house arrests/ searches ext.... People from all races should be held accountable. And don't even get me started on tax evasion if you want to talk about millions of theft.
In the country called Saudi Arabia, theft punishment is hand decapitation (sometimes in extremes, the hand is immersed in boiling oil then cut by executioner). Just laying an info.
Once criminal hand is cut off, then that criminal is deemed as a "disabled person ". After that, the government has to feed him/her for life with disabled person benefit because not completely fit for work . What a stupid idea .
Well what are you going to do about it? I bet you vote for the same disgusting woke Dems next election and then wonder why crime is such a problem. I do not feel sorry for you. You get what you vote for.
Isn’t there a law now in certain blue states that allows people to steal items from stores as long as they don’t exceed X amount of dollars or something?
In Texas, private security firms are helping owners install emergency buttons that locks the doors and calls police.. As soon as a mob theft happens, an employee presses the emergency button. The doors are locked and police are automatically called. Nobody gets out until police arrive and arrests are made.
Ok and what happens when an innocent bystander needs to get out bc of a medical issue but can’t now? You’re opening yourself up for a big time lawsuit if something were to happen. There was a similar case like this where a robber was trapped in a liquor store with innocent bystanders bc the clerk hit the emergency lock button. The the robber told the clerk to open the doors or else he’ll start shooting people. Well guess what, the clerk didn’t open the doors and the robber started shooting, killing one innocent man and now the clerk is facing a bunch of legal issues. It was all over the news.
@@flounder Uhm, yeah no they are not - which is why you didnt actually mention any . Republican Gov. can't do much against local level Democrat Mayors , either, thats the problem florida has. The State is overall doing well on crime - except for Orlando and Tampa which have had Democrat Mayors for years and years.
