@@sevilliane plants are NOT sentient beings. Sentience implies conscience of self, and the ability to feel pain and pleasure. The fact that plants can exchange hormones and other chemical substances between them (like bananas help tomatoes ripen through releasing ethylene) doesn't mean they are conscious of those exchanges. We also communicate chemically between each other and we are not consciously aware of that even if it effects our behaviour. That is not why we are considered sentient. Sentience requires the living being to have some notion of themselves and of their own experience of being alive. Most insects and other animals die due to pesticides, but the use of pesticides is not mandatory and there is something called veganic agriculture which would be the norm if the world was vegan, and we would minimise the death of animals in plant agriculture. Nowadays crop farming is done by non-vegans who don't give a shit about animals or ecossystems. If we eliminate animal farming (by being vegan and animal rights activists) we will be saving the lives of those animals and also preventing the death of all the insects who die for the crops given to animals. So I think it's logical to consider that to be a great first step. Of course, ideally the vegan future I hope for our humanity will also take into account insects as much as possible and practicable.

This series of reverse psychology videos by Joey are so ironic, hearing the meat eaters make the case for veganism. The only thing this particular guy lacks is the knowledge of the fact that a fully plant based diet is not only sufficient to thrive, but gives you the best chance of a long, healthy life! The largest organization of nutrition professionals officially declared- "It is the position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that appropriately planned vegetarian, including vegan, diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. These diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, adolescence, older adulthood, and for athletes. Plant-based diets are more environmentally sustainable than diets rich in animal products because they use fewer natural resources and are associated with much less environmental damage. *Vegetarians and vegans are at reduced risk of certain health conditions, including ischemic heart disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, certain types of cancer, and obesity.* Low intake of saturated fat and high intakes of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, soy products, nuts, and seeds (all rich in fiber and phytochemicals) are characteristics of vegetarian and vegan diets that produce lower total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and better serum glucose control. These factors contribute to reduction of chronic disease. Vegans need reliable sources of vitamin B-12, such as fortified foods or supplements." -Full abstract from the position paper as found on PubMed from the National Institutes of Health
@harveyplantharvester1502
@harveyplantharvester1502 Год назад
@@someguy2135 The last bit about "vegans need reliable sources of B-12" is what the meat, dairy and egg industries want us to believe, as well as the drug companies who make the synthetic supplements. Odd how all other nutrients and minerals in the soil, like calcium, iron and beneficial bacteria, are absorbed just fine by plants and not “washed off,” yet somehow B12 evaporates. Odd how you can only get it from a drug lab and that it’s targeted at vegans. The idea you can get good bacteria from eating the dead body of an animal is another lie from animal agriculture. Humans have it in their own gut just like a living animal, as long as they don’t take antibiotics which destroy it. All this fear about B12 is nothing more than marketing and deliberate disinformation. Every long-term vegan I know (20 plus years) finds it all very suspect.
@80slimshadys
@80slimshadys Год назад
@@harveyplantharvester1502 B12 isn't targeted at vegans. It just so happens we eat a diet that doesn't contain significant amounts of it reliably. In every study every group is deficient in B12, it's not a vegan issue, it's a human biology and civilisation issue. Nutrition institutions recommend EVERYONE supp B12 since 39% of society is lacking it and 1/3 of people will naturally lose the ability to produce the enzyme necessary to absorb it thus becoming deficient. 90% of B12 manufactured globally is for animal agriculture for the same reasons vegans need to take it. Just like people, animals are fed chlorinated water and fed crops that have been sprayed with chemicals designed to kill organisms like the B12 producing bacteria in the ground. Unlike all the nutrients you mentioned, B12 is the only thing made by bacteria surrounding the foods and is the only product that can be washed off food. Calcium, iron etc are within the plant, not sitting on the skin like cyanocobalamin. It's not a marketing ploy. It's not a scam, it's reality. Just a repercussion of having an abundance of crops and non-contaminated water. Take your B12 supplement, it is essential.

Have to say, when I did eat meat, I never said I wouldn't go vegan, honestly, I just never thought much about it, ignorance I guess. As I looked into it more, I went vegetarian and then on 14th Sept 2024, I went fully vegan (I was pretty much near vegan anyway for a few years). I'd already cut out milk years ago, rarely ever had eggs, most the time when I had skme vegetarian, it was because the product had milk powder and half the time it's because I missed it or didn't check and assumed. But I'm happy to state I'm vegan and happy to be so.

@@adammorgan1776 Great to hear! What was it that finally made you actually make the decision to switch?
@adammorgan1776
@adammorgan1776 6 дней назад
@Ermude10 , imforming myself more, the fact I wanted nothing to do with the barbaric industry, putting myself mentally in the place of farm animals, and the fact I don't want to harm any creatures (by my hands or others via complicity). Then second to that, we don't need to eat meat, and drinking milk beyond a baby (especially milk of another species) is just weird. The industry is environmentally, ecologically, and climatically destructive. And from a health prospective, it's also healthier to be plant-based, as so many research studies show time and again. So, really, I didn't need much of a push to go vegan, watching activist videos, knowing what goes on, my conscience all told me to just go vegan. I guess I can pinpoint the exact thing, so a combjnation of factors. Eitherway, I'm happier being vegan and don't feel at all hypocritical anymore. When did you go vegan and why?
@Ermude10
@Ermude10 4 дня назад
@@adammorgan1776 It was very similar for me. I was pretty much fully plant based for many years because of health and environmental reasons, but would occasionally have some cheese or eggs. But just by being more interested in the subject I came across more and more of the ethical reasons, and at some point I just didn't want to be a hypocrite anymore and align my actions to my values. Wasn't a big shift in practice, but it was a significant and fundamental change in mindset. Thanks for sharing! :)
@adammorgan1776
@adammorgan1776 4 дня назад
@Ermude10 , once you start properly looking into the industry and everything, without cognitive dissonance and willful ignorance, it's really difficult/impossible to justify continuing complicity in the industry via buying such products or actively complicit. So yeah, it was a pretty easy step for me. Ivejust finished watching an anime (2nd time) called The Promised Neverland, very much worth a watch if you've not seen it (there's also a live action film too, but the anime is better in my view). Basically, it's about a world split in two, a human half and what they call demons in the part. The demons farm and eat kids, it focuses on a "high welfare" farm, which uses essentially the same excuses farmers use about "happy" animals before slaughtering them. Anyway, it's certainly worth a watch, it's 2 seasons and 20 min episodes, and very well written. Also, if you're on instagram, feel free to look me up (follow if you like and I'll follow back), I've started the account up new as part of becoming vegan and starting by sharing recipes but will add more things later. Really love this approach. Without fail non-vegans use the same approach that vegans use to show how abhorrent and needless animal use is.
@calvinburr1248
@calvinburr1248 Год назад
The only reason vegans need B12 supplements in modern times is that the food and water are sterilized with chlorine, pesticides, etc. Before the modernization of water treatment, agricultural practices, and food storage measures, the plant-based human diet would automatically have enough B12 from natural water sources and the tiny insects that occur in and on untreated plant foods. Natural water sources are teaming with all sorts of aquatic life that all die and decay in the water, and even water of this sort that is safe to drink is literally a diluted soup of organic material and bacteria that manufacture B12. So, the argument that a vegan diet's need to supplement B12 is evidence that humans evolved to eat animals is not valid.

at 5:55 Actually Peter Singer would agree. He states that an animal does not know death and hence cannot have an interest in avoiding it; it only cares for not being in pain, so Peter Singer would actually support killing an animal chilling in the grass by shooting it in the head from behind, as long as it doesn' suffer. Thats why I like Joy much more than Peter Singer ;)
