surprised they banned him, there's quite a few cheaters on there who never are touched, including a friend of mine who's had an active account since 2019 and admitted to using an engine for certain moves.
I felt like this was the case but he wasn’t overly blatant about it. He did have about a 1000 point rating hike though. I don’t understand being so willing to waste your time as well as his own for literally no benefit at all.
Overheard in John's room after recording: “He got me,” Bartholomew said of KetamineOverdose's three wins over him. "That f***ing KetamineOverdose boomed me." Bartholomew added, “He’s so good,” repeating it four times. Bartholomew then said he wanted to add KetamineOverdose to the list of players he works out with this summer.
@@JohnBartholomewChess Yeah, that is the only logical explanation I can find. He is definitely not someone who just destroys you as engines usually do, but his profile was unusual because of some losses against novice players 2 months ago. You realistically can't really go from that to 2 700 rating in 2 months...
So awesome to see you online again John!! All the best from Australia. PS nothing wrong with your play or time management. it looked suspiciously like your opponent was turning on and off an automatic chess engine
As a highly, and well established chess player of a solid rating of 1700 on 3+2 blitz on the chesscom platform, even I was wildy confused by that first game!
Great to see you post to RU-vid as I don't frequent Twitch. Hopefully, you'll get back to posting here on some sort of regularity again. Until then, take care...may the chess gods smile on you. 🙂
Not to mention he's lost to a bunch of 600-1200 players and beat someone whose account was closed for fair play violations. I don't like accusing anyone where it's not warranted, but I wouldn't be surprised if his account gets flagged.
Yeah, only 2:14 into the video and the weird moves are just ridiculous for a 2700. I am only around 1800 and I can tell, so John was probably just being polite/classy like usual.
I had suspicion that he might be cheating because I feel like really high level players wouldn't name themselves "ketamineoverdose" lmao. But since he played quickly and relatively well in time scramble end games means he likely is a decent player without the engine which makes him an even better cheater, if he in fact is one
It's not hard to imagine what goes on in the mind of a cheater, but I don't think I'll ever understand it. It makes no sense. Nice to see you back, John.
While watching reruns of Baywatch, I randomly thought that I have not seen any recent videos of JB. After I hit the bell to receive all notifications I read a few comments and learned that he hasnt been on RU-vid as much lately. WELCOME BACK JB! Stay for a while please. PS Sweet Christmas Tree
If this player is a cheat as others have suggested they are cannier than most. They made sure to lose a few games, and not have every move be an engine move given the blunders made. That last game in particular if they were cheating they would have turned the engine on only at some point later in the game. Of course it is just as possible there was no cheating at all, but still very strange play. I would have guessed they were sandbagging if John hadn't won the second game.
John, it so good to see a new video!! Thank you 🙏🙏... I must have watched your entire library a few times now during the hiatus 😁. RU-vid is just not the same without you sir. P.s. standard video next?? Please 🙏😊
We miss you John. You must be super busy with everything you got going on, but we can't get enough John videos. You single handedly built everything I am in chess. Appreciate you good sir!
Good to see you back on RU-vid, John. The stream is good, too, but I get so much out of these videos. Still working my way through your Standard series. (Iosue_Ardeus)
Loved seeing the new video notification pop up. My mama says always ask what you want , you never know if it may turn true! So I will stick my neck out and ask that if you are considering a new Climb the ladder series please consider me! 😉
Hi John! I was wondering if you plan on covering any games from the world championship series? Your coverage in 2018 was very thoughtful and I am struggling to find alternatives
Thank you, King! No official coverage on my end (I'm actually heading on vacation for a few days soon, so it would have been interrupted), but fortunately there are more coverage options than ever this time :)
Hey John, Its amazing to see a video of you pop up! Are you planning on getting a more consistent upload schedule schedule, or is this a one off thong? I understand either way, I know you're very busy, but streams are impossible for me to catch. I am just wondering
I just took up chess two weeks ago after I retired after 38 years...and I have been watching your videos on how to play chess...ie undefended pieces etc...so how do you cheat in online games. Just curious? It seems impossible to cheat. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks for the video John. Would you ever consider doing a chess strategy course on Chessable, in a similar vein to 'Chess fundamentals' but more extensive? I'd be first in line to buy that. Specific openings are a bit much for me to focus on right now, so I'd really like a more general strategy course on chessable, preferably by you!
In game 4 white is hoping you go c6 or a6 after Bc4 so they can go Bxf7 followed by qh5 and then white can either win your queen with a discovered knight check or check mate you but even after bxf7 you can still go kd8. Eric Rosen made a video on it a few years ago and if memory serves me right he also tried playing it against you. I also play it in blitz but the downside is that if black doesn't fall for the trap white is just down a pawn with little to no compensation
This is one thing that titled players and other chess players don't understand about cheaters. If you are going to cheat in chess and you use say Stockfish, you're gonna end up rolling through everyone like a hot knife through butter, but that's not good because chesscom will detect this real fast and just ban you. Basically, if your move accuracy is high 90% every game and you're winning every game, then of course you're cheating and the algorithms will catch that. So a smart cheating player will not always play the best move, they don't want to win every game, etc. And it's so funny to me when a chess streamer gets so excited about beating a cheater, because the only reason they're winning is because the cheater is letting you win (again, because they don't want to win every game which would get them banned real fast). Anyhow, that's why the odd play from this dude, and that's why he was able to make it all the way to 2700 before getting caught.
It won’t be long before this strategy doesn’t work either. 2700s don’t lose like 1000. This guy’s losses were like someone way weaker and I’m sure algorithms will recognize that soon enough.
