Moral of the story, NEVER make a discord server.

i was there when this entire thing went down and it was INSANE. i went in there, talked to a few people for a few minutes, and got overwhelmed with the amount of people and notifications i was getting, and then muted the server. then i went to sleep, woke up to the announcement about ID-ing members to stay, thought it was weird, was going to ask why we had to send our IDs in, and then just got straight up banned and then the server was deleted. it was completely unsafe and insane to the highest degree, and i'm glad that you're talking about it and not letting it get brushed off. good work nick!!

UPDATE on the Underflow situation, he is still actively liking tweets on Twitter/X as of today but not responding to anything or anyone regarding the situation. I noticed this and made SmokeyMcc aware of this in his stream tonight, and he confirmed it by going to his Twitter/X page. As for any apologies or anything, he has stayed silent and is probably waiting for the storm to blow over to make his comeback.

This makes me afraid of just how much Earl Dube shit is going on just out of sight. 2 lolcow creators who made videos on Bowser, only to end up doing the same thing as him 3 months is kind of alarming.

“In my server” -Babypine. That was one of the loudest parts of this video. I think he’s just as responsible as her but it’s obvious who was running the show. Banning the concerned adults for voicing their problems with the obviously dangerous behavior between adults and kids is fucking wild. It was incredibly disappointing.

1:39 4:55 You can see me in these parts of the vid and yeah dude the server mods were 100% not prepared. There was a girl claiming to be 15 in gen talking about how she acts older than she looks and that her parents were against her using disc, clearly trying to get a reaction out of people (she’d keep out of nowhere repeating these points for attention) and rather than ban her all they did was try acting like her personal therapist. A goofy ass discord mod shouldn’t try to act as a random kid in their servers’ parent and I was desperately begging them to just ban her since she was clearly just trying to get a reaction out of people but I was repeatedly ignored. The next morning I realized that slow mode was enabled in every chat and everyone but the mods could send only 1 message every like 8 hours but we were told they were “fixing the minors problem” so we waited until we were asked to privately DM any mod a pic of our ID with our face beside it which i did while blurring out my address, ID number, etc. since i’m not giving all that out to a random discord mod. I then realized that the mod had blocked me and the server was deleted, leading me to comment on his most recent vid only to realize my comment was deleted literal seconds after I had posted it, which I found out had happened to every comment about it at around the same time. I guess they apparently gave up though since my most recent comment is still up. Moral of the story. Discord mods need to get rid of their stupid hero complexes and realize that their job isn’t to act as everyone savior, it’s to ban assholes and creeps

“If you feel pressure by beauty standards, fuck beauty standards.” is a pretty broad statement that is said to boost confidence. I don’t see how that’s inappropriate at all. But everything else, including make minors mods is, especially when people were talking to minors like that. I don’t think Underflow is a bad person since he deleted the Discord immediately after- which is a lot more than say NateDawg. I don’t think he needs to hide it though. I get it looks bad given the content he makes, but I think this situation is recoverable based on the fact he deleted the Discord so quick. It’s the covering it up and dismissing it entirely that’s really getting to me though so… it’s gonna take time to restore that trust within his audience and friends for sure

A mistake is one thing and I totally understand slips ups, but A) why allow minors in the first place and B) why delete comments and try to sweep everything under the rug? I watched his content and liked him too up until this point, but come on, it's a little naive to be saying things like "Well he seems chill though" and "it was just a mistake" like some of you here are. I don't hate him now or anything, but don't let him off the hook so quickly and let him take accountability.

This is just my assumption but I bet you the reason why there is a minor role is because a good portion of his fans are made up of that, and because the discord is under his own supervision, he figured predators and grooming wouldn't be an issue. But he greatly underestimated the amount of attention and moderation is required for a server with the size of his fan base, hence causing all of this issue. I hope underflow gives these people refunds, like thats just fucked.

This was just a big mishandling on his part. Nothing bad directly from him, but a good lesson. The real question is: How do you legitimately moderate this type of stuff?

Damn, what a mess. RU-vidrs, just don't have a Discord server. It's not worth the headache and you cannot just ID people in a community where doxxing is a serious threat. Gotta give props for seeing that it just doesn't work and shutting it down in a day, but at this point, having a Discord or Tiktok is just touching the poop.

I know this isn't really the point but saying "fuck beauty standards" isn't bad or inappropriate, that's literally what we should be teaching kids. You have any idea how damaging it is to live in an always online world of social media and being bombarded by absurd standards of beauty. Both for boys and girls. So many absolutely gorgeous and attractive people in their 20's have all sorts of self image issues because of stuff they grew up with as kids.

It's pretty much the same on 4chan, gaming related boards are filled with actual teenagers (14-16) who also band together on discord. I had to quit browsing the whole thing because I am past 30 and felt weird (also seen the patterns that "young me" were doing online, for eg. rage baiting or s.posting in the early 2000s). I think this is a very difficult thing to moderate in general, there are also people who pretend to be underage or lgbtq to lure in desperate af people/preds (or just to troll). Although I agree, that inappropriate things should be dealt with.

I don’t think Underflow meant to cause such a big problem. I’m not sure why he allowed minors to begin with, but I was there and it seems like BabyPine was kinda the one hosting / dealing with everything, saying Underflow didn’t understand Discord. BabyPine said that the “minor” role was for moderation purposes, which then after people started to say why are minors even here? She started kicking everyone with the minor role on their profile, after people started bringing up the concern. Then people questioned, how will anyone confirm / really know we’re 18+? And then BabyPine said, dm me a picture of you and your ID.. Then went on to make it an announcement that if we wanted to stay, we’d have to age verify. Really weird how she kept going back and forth, I don’t think her and Underflow were both ready for any of that, or how large the server would be; but it’s questionable why he would allow minors there anyways. I was typing in chat about the verification when it got deleted, a friend and I both witness it disappearing in a vc, which was crazy. I assumed we got kicked, but checking the comments; seems like it was deleted since he obviously wasnt ready for how huge his audience was, how they easily get out of hand, and how they began to question the rules and minor role. Glad someone is talking about it, and I hope Underflow learned from this and doesn’t blame himself too much as BabyPine seemed to be more in control of it.

I'm a minor on the older side and i saw this situation firsthand, i was chill w the majority of the people, i expected it, but it was still a little shocking to see firsthand.

I just want to say something completely off topic but I feel like nick would be an amazing father, the way he looks out for things like this and knows and sees things wrong with simply just a discord server is amazing, I think in the future if he decided to, he would be a great dad

i was in it, and after the whole ID thing, i was really confused. especially when i went through the mods and one of them was SIXTEEN i was really, really uncomfortable and confused. i feel like underflow who’s 19 should’ve known by now that u must put a barrier down especially when it comes to internet interactions. i’m really disappointed and don’t know if i’ll keep supporting him.

how he has to set it up is not to disclose the age and if he does dont make it a cosmetic based role make separate general channels for the 18 plus role and the 18 minus role. There are discord bots where your account age has to be a certain age to even access channels, with bots also requiring other heavy form of verification

was in the discord server. from the first hour. there were no explicit messages sent between minors and 18+ in any of the text channels, and the few that popped up were deleted, rather by the mods or the OP themself... please site more evidence next time, as a screenshot of a 2 way text between 2 minors is not credible enough information to try and allege that this all happened to underflows according..

While everyones saying it was underflows mishandling it doesnt answer the fact he deleted everyones comment and DM including Nicks. Which makes it very sus. i was one of the people in the server (18 yo and NOT a mod,, and i am screaming at my arkham knight thirst exposure 😭), but i do agree that the server was poorly moderated and there were a lot of weird things said in the server by minors that was incredibly uncomfortable and weird to read. when we tried to prompt them not to be weird, they simply did not listen. they had absolutely no chill and things got out of hand very fast. there defo should have been more mods and existing mods should have been a lot stricter on what was/wasnt to be allowed because some of the younger people were saying the most absolute out of pocket things and mods didnt do anything or werent there to see it. i do just wanna say that some of the messages you used were taken out of context (not that it makes them any better but still), and all of the inappropriate messages used in this video like the toilet seat message in the beginning and the sit on my face message were ALL taken from conversations between minors, NOT adults. --- but there were definitely some inappropriate conversations between minors and adults. - in the beginning of the server a lot of the inappropriate messages were removed, people were also banned for being inappropriate with minors. but as time progressed and mods werent as active, a lot slipped under their noses. - from what i do remember, it was mainly the minors saying weird stuff (like the pee thing) to each other, a lot of us were commenting on how weird the things that they were saying were and did tell them it was weird and to stop. - some of us did comment repeatedly about how weird it was that people kept sending photos of themselves and people kept emote reacting to them (not sure if any of the photos were of minors) but i dont think mods took any notice of what we said. - things only started to get very out of hand once it became later in the day. my time zone is uk, and im assuming that a lot of the mods were US based because there were extended periods of time where there were absolutely no mods in the server. the longer time went on, the more that people started to get very immature and have weird and grotesque conversations. obviously you mentioned one of the pee messages, some things were borderline sexual (virginity, sex jokes) and people did engage with conversations definitely not to be had with minors. - IDing thing was crazy and the people that i did manage to message before the server got shut down also agreed that it seemed very extreme and was pointless at that moment in time. all agreed that the server should just be shut down - which it was. - if any of the minors from the server are reading this - yes some of you were friendly and not weird unlike the majority, but that doesnt mean that minors should have been in the server to begin with. definitely got to a point that the mods were overwhelmed with having to say the same basic things over and over again to keep them in check - which many people did not listen to. they should not have been allowed into the server to begin with, or at the very least have had a 16+ limit, not that this accounts for anything but a lot of the minors that were weird were posting the weird stuff were like aged 13-15. i do just wanna say i dont have any issue with underflow, i just think that it was poorly managed and he should have taken better care to make sure that he had more mods so that things did not escalate the way that things did, and that like you said, the server was 18+. allowing minors kind of doomed it from the start. did meet a lot of nice people on the server, but there were an equal share of weird ones. its a shame that things escalated the way they did and hopefully nothing to this level happens again.

I went into that server and had to mute all the channels because that server was blowing up my damn phone. Doesn't surprise me that this happened, I wasn't paying attention but hot damn I'm so relieved I wasn't looking because fucking eww! Anyways I hope Underflow makes an actual statement on this because sweet unholy hell, this isn't something to keep quiet on. It was a huge mess and he should have known better.
