Another great video. So helpful. Do you ever worry about the water loosing velocity with the in-line catch basin. Seems like collecting the shingle gravel out weighs slowing down the water.

These are all really good videos! I have installed a new downspout with a cleanout, catch basin and pop up emitter as you advised. We just got a new roof, and a new downspout next to the one I previously installed. Eventually, I will install a deck over the whole thing. Question, should I tie into the existing line with its catch basin/cleanout/pop up, or should I be adding another line. This will be a significant amount of rain water from half of the upper floor of the house. But now is the time to add anything before we start on the deck. Thanks FD Man!

If it's 4" (2) Downspouts are nothing. It will keep the line cleaner is you push that much water through it.

I just installed a downspout drain and now wondering if I made a mistake! I start with your downspout adapter with clean-out and end with a pop-up emitter but in the middle, I am only using 4" solid pipe. My slope is pretty good (17" to 23") and with hard rain I suspect the water will go all the way to the emitter but on non-hard rainstorm will my pipe just fill up? I am now debating to dig up the end and put in a few feet of perforated going into emitter - but I'd really rather not! Thoughts?

Check it 72 hrs after a rain and see if it leaches into the subsoil. If you built your pop-up emitter as a soakaway you will be fine. Slope is key and you mentioned you have some slope.

@@FRENCHDRAINMAN Water in the pop-up emitter catch basin has all seeped into ground. I checked for any water in the drainpipe, and I don't know how or why but it is dry!! I checked with my hand as far as I could reach, and I even checked with a USB snake camera. I'm very glad of these results!! I probably should have added a foot or two of perforated pipe at the end and may dig it up to do that, but glad that I don't HAVE TO and that it is working.

Very informative video. I live in Michigan with its seasonal freezes and thaws. I would like to install and underground downspout drain under a brick paver walkway. How deep should I go in order that the freezing and thawing of the ground around the drain doesn't heave up the walkway? 18 inches? Any help you can give would be most helpful. Thanks!

Run it shallow and out down hill 25ft. The pipe will always be empty so it can't freeze with no water in it.

If I have a 42 foot run and put in your Northern leach away pop up with the knife cut with catch basin on the pop up do I need to install a catch basin 12 foot off the house?

If you have shingles you need a sediment trap 5ft off the house. We have a large sediment trap coming out soon stay tuned!

Do you need an in-line catch basin for every downspout, or can I tie together two downspouts with a Y junction to one in-line catch basin? Thank you!

Yes you can do that just clean it out more often with a shop vacuum.

When would you use the knife cut vs solid drain pipe? Also, when laying the knife cut drain pipe, which direction are the knife cuts facing? Thanks.

If it's flat we go to knife cut so that after the bulk water is removed the water left in the pipe can soak away. There is no right or wrong way to run knife cut. Up by the house use solid pipe for 10ft - 15ft then go to knife cut.

We have a row of pines and the emitter is just beyond them and the knife cut pipe runs to it so I’m just worried the tree roots will find the knife cuts and grow into the pipe at the far end.

@@FRENCHDRAINMAN When you transition from solid pipe to knife cut, do you have to lay gravel and wrap it in geotex fabric like you do with french drains? I notice with the solid pip you just bury it directly in the trench. Thank you.

When you vacuum out the shingle gravel from the basin, won’t you also remove pea gravel?

No because the basic has a bottom with holes drill in it that are smaller the the pea stone

Are there cases where you would use a D-box instead of the inline catch basin?

Yes. If a big dirty spruce tree dropping needles is overhead of the gutter. It takes extremely bad cases. For the most part 95% in line basins now.

Sorry man, after watching Gate City Foundation Drainage's channel, I am all for PVC. Corrugated doesn't make any sense except to keep needing drainage and landscaping work.

If you seen what I have seen you would feel differently. Farmers have miles of corrugated pipe and as long as the grass doesn't grow over a outlet the sediment washes through the pipe and the line stays clean. PVC is for the indoors.
