Underground Fiber Optic Cable Laying 

I'm from Texas and have been doing underground telephone / fiber for 9 years. I've done everything from placing the conduit and handholes even place big manholes. I've pulled 2500 pair copper cable and 864 fiber and everything in-between. Miles and miles of it all over the state of Texas. I've pulled cable everyway imaginable but this was is the hardest way to do it. Not hating I just know what it's like to pull fiber like that. Much respect to all those guys working hard 💪

I'm a cabling worker. We do it slightly different in the UK. We do use cobra rods but they tend to not go as far and can't put alot of force behind them if the duct is congested. Best thing to use is hand rods, 25mm by 3m length. Can push them with alot of force. I've done one section of 320m through a congested manhole duct with 4 other blokes Edit: the amount of workers you see rodding here is not how we do it. Like we normally work in a group of 2 per job. If its hard with just the 2 of us, we can then call for additional engineers for an assist. I would like to work abroad and try out how its like in different places and countries. Love abit of cabling 😁

We are using diameter of 110mm uPVC pipe, therefore we only used insulation tape to secure the fiber optic cable and rodder

like your videos iam from chicago il in north america i work running fiber 432 fiber is really heavy and big we used a machine to pull make a faster Lest people keep making good videos

OK get an air compressor and blow a string attached to a sponge...... it will even clean the interior of the conduit, then pull the rodder, or even fiber.

I remember doing that in Iraq for the c ram but of course we did it a bit diffrent we didn't use wire we used mule tape I believe (so long ago) to pull the fiber along

Wow, very much a manual labour job. Why not use muletape? A fabric tape you pull back with the rodder. You can then attach the muletape to the fiber cable and pull on the muletape. You can put a new piece of muletape in at the same time. Also, I see you are simply taking coils off the reel. This would result in twists when you go to place the cable. Why not unreel it and store it with figure 8s? This should prevent twists.

Very difficult job

this is very inneffective with a risk of damaging the cable. if you drag it with to much force, there is a decent chance the cable will be under to much force and the fiber can snap. ofc it depends on the distance it is beeing pulled, but sience it seems to need atleast 4 people to do so i assume to much force is beeing used. just a small nick on the cable , can cause singnal errors. what you do is to send a cable underground is using a air compressor and you liturally blow the cable in the tubes underground till it goes to the end, ive blown 90 fiber cable 100m a minute persoanlly, ofc, that is risky aswell due to if it comes to a instant halt you can kiss that cable goodbye.

You mean you don't have preform grips and build one with lashing wire each time ? Such a waste of time is all..

....i do this every day.....this video is overkill x 1000....we shoot a dart with a compressor up the duct with 2500 lb muletape to MH#2 tie cable to muletape with 3 slipknots and TAPE with electrical tape .......DONE... no braiding of wire or stupid shit like this video.......PS we do it with a crew of 3 .....
