What an amazing place, and in such great condition - even after all this time. I'm betting the wooden framework in generator room was for distribution panel - gauges, switches, etc. Thank you for that visit. Stay safe-er.

This backup power supply bunker is amazing, HH. Well spotted, Eagle Eyes!!! Having worked around big generators, I'd say there were definitely heavy duty doors to that room, as the big gennies are deafening. Thank you for showing us this amazing place!💖

Fantastic place, really enjoyed looking at that. The cable was all 4 core, so three phase supplies going out. If it was circa 3" diameter, then liable to be 240mm^2 cable capable of taking around 270 Amps. The metal frame would have had all the switchgear mounted to it, so that each individual feed out could be separately switched on or off. You can see the rail at the bottom had the clamps on that held the cables. Looked like there was also an earth tape running along the side of the cable trench.

That's really quite a fascinating bunker. So solid. You would certainly feel protected in there, but the noise would have been numbing. The Germans tended to use U-Boat diesel engines as generators, and in that solid concrete bunker, the noise would penetrate every wall, and every room. Bet the Duty Crew would have spent their breaks out in the entrance.... White walls reflect the light better in a bunker, but maybe they painted some rooms Yellow to give their eyes a break from the glare. Especially their rest areas. These places were just as important as the actual gun emplacement. No power, no guns. Thank you both for sharing this unique bunker with us. Cheers! Stay Safe!

I think the two yellow looking painted rooms were the generator and machinery rooms. They had the fire alarms out side the doors and it looked like they had fire suppression brackets in the ceilings and the large air shafts two pump out the exhaust. The little sliders on the out side of the doors is to check and make sure it was safe to enter before going in.(no fires or exhaust build up etc).

Really a great tour of a WW-2 power plants. Those bunkers were huge. Lots of high tech goings-on back in the day in Germany. I always say, heck, Mericans always say, if it ain't made in Germany, it will probably fall apart. Thanks for the tour WW-2HH and Eagle Eyes!!!

Words fail me, you could easily walk past that massive bunker and never see it, well done to EE for spotting that. I agree with you, that feature on top looks like a Tobruk defence position, as you would expect on such a site. The thickness of those cables shows just how much power could be produced when needed. Looking forward to the rest of the site, I know you will both find some exciting stuff for us to see. Thank you for sharing this, stay safe and well my friend

Very pretty music at the intro HH. That 1941 Electricity Bunker power plant was spectacular. Good catch as always EE. I think that I would feel pretty safe in that bunker with the 2 1/2 - 3 metre thick walls and ceilings. Pretty solid and well constructed. The painted rooms did look like they might just be the 3 crew members bedrooms. The yellow hue makes it more of a cozy ambiance. Just a small detail like that makes a big difference. Pretty impressive. Thanks for taking us alone you two. You are quite a team. Please continue to be safe.

Great opening drone shots. The generator bunker is in great shape. It would be great to follow the power conduit, you would find that the cables branched one or two heading to each bunker and building. The single heading out on its own may go to a building on the edge of the complex or they drilled the hole later to add it in. The ceramic piece could also be plumbing, the center curve looked about 150mm in diameter. Keep up the great work. Both of you stay well and safe.

During the war there were no or much fewer trees, even here you can still see trees on the coast where the tops have been removed. I sometimes wonder how much concrete was used in total for the construction of the Atlanticwal. They are paper lead cables with a steel outer sheath.

That was an interesting explore. Yes, wonder if that first structure was a machine gun Tobruk? Couldn't believe how complex the power bunker was with the thick ceilings and walls, multiple power supply cables, zinc platted tubes, ventilation shaft, 200 & 60 HP generators, etc. Just imagine the time spent designing and building this highly advanced bunker for it's time. Hard to imagine that they even implemented the use of reverse osmosis. I would imagine they thought of the noise levels and installed effective noise barriers as they seemed to have thought of everything. Yes, what other secrets does that place hold. I hope that you have fully recovered from your bout of COVID HH. Thanks HH & EE, very interesting 😊.

It would be interesting if you could determine the decibel level in each room with the electrical bunker in full operation,,,,

Very loud! I do the emergency generator testing every month at my 302 unit condo building. Even hearing protection isn't enough.

I do like the way you always treat the sites with respect, I have seen a couple of these sort of installations and would have thought the large rooms off the main Generator hall are for fuel and water to cool the engines. Would not have liked to be part of the crew serving these beasts, noise in that bunker must have been horrible (not that they had a lot of choice).
