I watch Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan for samples from this track... This track has been a contant with me since spring 1990. Frankie Bones himself sold it to me for $1.00 when he used to run Groove Records on Ave. U (in Brooklyn)... Good times indeed!
I'm huge fan of Mr. Fingers (Can You Feel It) and Logic (The Warning/Final Frontier) and this track reminded of both, I fell in love with it instantly, even hearing it right now, 18 years since I purchased my copy, still gives me the very same goosebumps and sense of awe, almost breaks me to tears. Amazing.
Can't get enough of this. Makes me proud I've got those Detroit roots. Makes me nostalgic for my SE Michigan childhood in the 80s and 90s. Sort of a melancholic feel but perfectly fits my mood when i think of my youth.
One of the best UR tracks ever. I also have this EP buried in the spare room somewhere, bought in late 1990 or early 1991. Early UR and Carl Craig definitely had the biggest impact for me musically.
@djmadwax My friend theres nothing whatsoever crazy about detroit techno sounding better than the bilge that is vomited out today, these guys were genius, and it even back in the day took a musically edjucated mind to 'get it', what i mean is that, my freind would play this in clubs in the 90's and the hardcore 'heads' would love it..the minority, the masses wanted some cheesy throw your hands up piano tune that would be forgot a week later.. simply creme de la creme....
I think I got this in 92. I was only into chipmunk techno with breakbeats at the time so I wasn't really into the whole jazzy techno vibe. But I did like this one because of Star Trek II, Spock, and the Genesis device - my favourite scene - computer graphics were new when ST2 came out. This tune brought back that wow of seeing the Genesis device sequence in the film. I actually visualised Phuture fantasy club's Slam as the tune to go with the genesis device sequence.
@ev3nflow Listened to Kraftwerk as a teen and lived through the disco movement and watched the rise of the techno and and industrial in the 80's. I'm 50 and I find myself coming back to this stuff all the time.
Got this one on vinyl and still love it...42 this year and still collect records-wavs etc...Went to Berghain in Berlin last Dec and you know what im in this for life...Thank you for posting this track...
90s Techno and House are just a different beast. Just listened to Neil Howard's Indulge and just wanna go on a binge now. Good tracks! Also kinda reminds me of RAH Band's Nice Easy Money for some reason.
Such a gorgeously great track, definitely has some shades of 808 State to it (and I dig the Star Trek II samples--playing this song at 2:23 in sync with the Genesis Sequence presentation from the movie is a great trip, IMO :) ).
i know exactly what you mean mate, as soon as i hear any electronic music from the 80s & 90s I escape to another place far away from the stress and gloom of today's world - my safe zone! As for Jeff Mills and the Philaharmonic 'Blue Potential' project - I still listen to Gamma Player on a near daily basis, amazing performance.

I have to hold my hands up and say that im fucking 40 this year, and this and all the late 80's early 90 techno will never lose its impact.soon as this played i feel a little inner peace as daft as that sounds.. I have this vinyl buried somewhere in the crates, along with a lot of other UR releases. Gotta pull out the decks and rip it all! There was something intangible about techno in those days that comes back as soon as I hear this. I remember rolling in the giant speaker cabinets with the crew, setting up on the beach and raving until sunrise. "The Weak Become Heroes" summed up the feeling beautifully, but even that's over ten years ago now. Thanks for posting!

I ain't that old yet (31) but I have no intentions of ever 'growing out of this', & will be going back to berlin in a few weeks & as luck would have it, the mighty Virgo are playing live at Panorama Bar whilst we're there!

Sweet..Gamma player is a bit of a groundhog day tune for me too, i was rooting through my tunes a few weeks ago and gamma player (amongst others) is still un opened..lol Theres nothing wrong with a bit of escape from the grind, and if this is what does it for us, then im down with that brother.. Maybe were just getting old.....nahh :)

go through my favourites you will find a good selection of detroit techno there, Just ignore the soulfly/pantera stuff..lol But i have a lot of class bookmarked.. check out clarence g.. fucking awesome..

serious.. Im going to be rich then, i have most of the UR catalogue from ur1 to maybe 20 odd.red planet.drexcyia. All original pressing that were all imports here(UK). What about carl craigs 'Shop ep'..start your bidding..lol Id never sell my vinyl, its my life.. I stopped buying awhile ago, when cds came out, but 3-400 12"'s i have are all cream of the crop. Jeff and mike. carl craig -plus 8. metroplex/ and transmat/planet e(carl) you name it, i own it.. lol
