@37:09 I really love this vocal run. In the album version (this one), it is kind of masked behind the background vocals. It was in her Tokyo Dome live concert where she performed the song in a slightly slower tempo, that I became more cognizant of it. So to hear this particular melisma isolated in this video is a real treat. Some of her runs are extremely nuanced and intricate (and sometimes _"hidden"_ behind many vocal layers) that you might sometimes miss them.
Very true. At this point, even with the background vocals muted, with this particular run, I can almost hear the lyrics, *_"...But the time went sailing by. Reluctantly we said goodbye,"_* being sung....
There's an actress called Padma Laxmi who worked with Mariah in Glitter. She said Mariah was singing next to her and it sounded 'Olympic'. It's that big of volume output.
Co-Sign this. Padma said her hair was vibrating. I think it’s the way Mariah places her voice. Very light on the palette but it’s full chest going on so that mixture of a lighter placement and focus on staying in chest (she’s not so much of a mixer. The breathiness is there because it helps her transition from chest to head easier). So in turn she produces a loud bell-like quality
@@narutohyuga1845 probably because they’re using the proper technique. What is blessed about Mariah is that while her mother helped her she was only given foundational tools. How she approaches singing is something she figured out herself. It’s not something that can be taught but it might explain how her voice has not declined per se but changed throughout the years.
This is my favorite Mariah song!!! When I was in fifth grade this song came out and I had a broken pair of headphones that would short out and I could hear these background vocals isolated. It was the most amazing thing ever and I’m so happy that nowadays people can actually hear these too❤ I listed to every song on this album like this and while every song has some hidden background vocals this is the only one that was full of these layers through the whole song
I was in 5th grade too when i heard this song on a cassete tape. In may case, i deliberately pull my 3.5mm jack out of the socket halfway to hear the isolated vocals lol!
I’m a lamb and what I love about her music is that no matter how many times I have heard a song, I always hear something I’ve never heard before. Her musical genius knows no bounds. She is incomparable.
I just love these. The amount of intricacies integrated into these songs that add atmosphere and character to a song, but you'd never noticed unless they were singled out down stem by stem. It really illustrates the overall synergy all of these components contribute to once they're combined with the vocals. I also love how she even adds different lyrics to her backing vocals rather than just use it as an opportunity to repeat the main vocal. It adds to the storytelling and I'm here for it. Really, truly value these. Keep it up! A song I'd love to hear would be God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen or I Wish You Well. ❤
For the bg vocals, its usually her, her bg singers sometimes get layered underneath the bg vocals... The BG singers are somehow the ones singing those parts during live performances since their tone and Mariahs are similar
34:53 I’ll say as a singer who also plays with stems and producing and composing. It sounds like the onset back into chest voice. Sometimes it sounds like a break into a different register. I know what you mean about it sounding the very much slightest like a cut but when you’re flipping between head and chest sometimes it’s not always smooth. Like it’ll be the smallest and almost unnoticeable crack into the lower notes. “And I-I-I-EYE-I-I-I-I”. It’s the fourth note in that run that sounds like a cut but also like the bridge between the registers might have been the slightest bit rough as well
Love this insight! I know what you mean and if someone is going to have that kind of control it’s definitely Mariah! Thanks so much for watching JayBeeTVb
@@luffegunCould you tell me what is the name of the software you use ? The one we ses on screen ? Thank you. Also could you do "I Wanna Love You Forever" by Jessica Simpson
This is a masterpiece! This is one of the reasons Mariah is an amazing artist! I definitely subscribed after this one! Please, you have to do The Roof by Mariah, from her Butterfly album, this song has some seriously sick beats and just ethereal endless layers of vocals!
this is an album track, that’s probably why you don’t remember it. I also requested you did anytime you need a friend stems by mariah, I hope you do it!! ❤️
Hello from Argentina!! Very nice video!! Love it. I think as a singer a vocal coach, that what you can hear as a burp are how her vocal cords and larynx sounds while she swallows saliva to clean it and that sound goes out through her nasal passages. And maby it sounds a little bit lauder because of her nodules, having nodules it's a very complicated condition that makes you feel that you always have mucus or something bothering you there before starting fonation. I heard you know Walter I love him I think he was the greatest producers that Mariah worked with and made her sound as what we known Mariah, they should work together again. Much love and blessings! Adrian
One of her best songs! Her discography is incredible. Did you know that she recorded this song and the album Daydream while also writing/recording/producing an alt-rock album with live instruments?
This is actually her favorite song in her entire repertoire and it shows everywhere the kind of producer she was even that early in her career and how smart she is when using her voice. The breathing ssn in her tone is because she has vocal nodules since childhood so she learned to sing through them and that gave her a huge range, if you listen to her speak even 8n her 20s she has a very deep voice for a woman. People with nodules usually have a more airy tone because vocal fold closure is somewhat interrupted and air passes through them even creating polyphonic sounds at times and the more swollen they are the m9re evident it is but she uses all of that to her advantage for vocal dynamics in her performances and vocal line in general but she is famous for texturized whistle notes, airy, m3ttall8c, silky, crystalline etc.
i Love your videos.. big music lover.. loove seeing and hearing the different parts!! Small request, but could you dissect Mariahs "Circles"? It has a layer in the end crescendo where mariah pushes her chest voice to the brink of humanitys demise!
i love it when you explore the different instruments! im an amateur producer and i appreciate your takes and remarks on certain things. you are a man after my own heart - i love rhodes too! theyre so dreamy and pretty, i get carried away using it as the main sound for my instrumentals just cuz it's so pleasing to my ears ❤ this song really encapsulates being "underneath the stars"
Mariah produced her vocal harmonies not Walter. He was responsible for instrumental composition and accompaniment. There are cuts of course but some of what you're hearing like 34:45 are her transitions from chest to falsetto. Check the 1996 live versions of this song.
0:28 sadly it wasn’t a single i mean a proper single. she said the label wouldn’t let her sell it but yeah it is her favorite song on the album ☺️ nvm it probably was a promotional single
Epic dissection of this glorious track in her catalogue! It’s so nice to hear such appreciation expressed for her creativity and talent. Your painstaking and reverent attention to detail brings it all out all the more 👏 Which microphone are you using when speaking? 🎤
Thank you so much for the lovely compliment! I’m really glad there are people like yourself enjoying these. I’m using a behringer BA85A it’s a copy of the sure beta58A but in Australia it’s about 400 dollars cheaper haha it’s like. 30 dollar mic and I bought it when I worked in a music shop for like 20 dollars. Im really happy with it! I also have one of the Electrovoice RE20 and SM7B mic that everyone thinks is a podcast staple but this is so portable and non obtrusive (and cheap) so I’m happy haha
She's not burping lol😂. She's cleaning her throat before she proceed to the airy vocals cause its hard to sing airy register if you dont clean your throat. Saliva will causes trouble to the throat
That's an amazing video, Mariah is like god of stems!! Can you do Hold It Against Me by Britney Spears?? I love its instrumental, and Britneys lead and background vocals. There is Myah Marie too in BGV mixed with Britney but still she did a great job, i hope you check out someday. I love your channel, please keep making stems and multitracks videos.
I think the sound is maybe something else in the background these mics are super sensitive and can pick up anything it may not be even something from her but rather in the room with her
If you want to hear her on an acapella during her prime, here's a good video. It's pretty short but definitely showcases how great she is. ru-vid.comYe0FeizKzGU?feature=share
Oh man that would be amazing! I should probably figure out a way to privately chat to people haha. We can continue the convo if you email me at luffegun@gmail.com if you like! Thanks so much Dakota.
