Can this be him? The one I have waited centuries to see? How strange So far from his path that I barely see the promise of glory Can this be him, this hellboy?
I don't care if they don't consider themselves religious anymore, the message of hope and faith from their old songs like this one was what kept me going through my darkest times.
What the faak, that's dope, I dont like the artist but if he sampled it and brings more ears to Underoath than good for them and recognition of this amazing song.
SCheco3 oh, another idiots thinking every sample is just a complete rip-off😂. Its only like the first several guitar cords that are sampled in Hellboy. Plus, you know even classic artists have used samples before right?
***** but when you ask the average person what his or her favorite uo song is, it's almost always off of define, or safety. never this album. this album is a straight gem all the way through though, so agreed there.
After Define the Great Line (my favorite and also the first one I ever heard of them back in 2007) this album sounded even darker and sometimes more chaotic. It took some more listening to appreciate its greatness.
Good God, if your song leaves our lips If your work leaves our hands Then we will be wonders and vagabonds They will stare and say how empty we are How the freedom we had turned us up as dead men Let us be cold, make us weak Let us, because we all have ears Let us, because we all have eyes How they knew that this would happen We're so run down Good God! Can you still get us home... How can we still get home I'm not dreaming We're forgetting our forgiveness
Takes me back to when I was 17 and full of rage and me and Brandon use to just sit in front of his house and burn blunts and discuss life almost all night every night :( this cd, just damnit my feels lol
Shit, Great Fucking Song! When I was 17 this was big for me too. I'm now 23. my older brother's name is Brandon also. we always listened to this music together when we were younger... crazy shit man...
Zack Demmerly That's it man. Define The Great Line is by far the best album I know, in my opinion. My point is that they never got the exposure their albums deserved
From reading the Lyrics, this song really resonates with me. I go away from God because of my pain, but I find that he is what gives me life/hope/purpose. I go back to him because He is the only one who would still be there at the end of everything for me.
God, these lyrics speak to my heart so deliberately. Years ago, after a darker time in my life, when I was lost, I rediscovered my faith and was reborn with an enthusiasm and fire for God that nothing could extinguish. Now, because of complacency as a result of my life's improvement, that flame has slowly flickered down; I feel I am once again losing my faith: "How the freedom we had turned us up as dead men". I am still so grateful that I was saved, but my heart still yearns for the relationship with God I once had. I know there are others who have experienced the same. I pray God will bring us home once again. We won't forget our forgiveness!
im muslim ... i love this kind music .. its not about feeling .. it is about some one who creative ... some one who inteligent .. i dont care the person christian or any religion .. i support for some one who realy deserve it ... because im playing instument too .. its hard to created song .. greating from malaysia !
yeah be fair, that wasnt a great effort on your part but i think he managed to string 2 different phrases together to the point where it doesnt make sense.
Not sure if Ill ever give up Underoath, they've meant so much to me throughout my teen years until now. Much thanks to the band for writing and performing music which has had such an enormous impact on me.
@Whuts Uhp why ure all worship Lil peep he has a good music but almost all samples were stolen. Its Fucked up. I love peep music but almost all his fans are stupid dumbasses
People should really give this album a few more spins. It's easily the most underrated album I've ever listened to. It's heavy in a way that's somewhere between metalcore, symphonic movie music, and the chariot at times. They did so many creative and intense things and it's one of, if not the only unedited album I've ever heard.
Jake Mannix yeah check out the behind the scenes videos for this album. The amount of editing and mastering is minimal to the point that the producers took issue with it. Most of the guitar tones and feedback are recorded from mic feeds outside of the amps rather than line into internal effects and the vocals are pretty untouched. They said they wanted the dissonance and everything that they think sound unnatural. Pretty impressive.
Even tho I'm not Christian I definitely want to join the choir at my mothers church just to play songs like these and introduce everybody to new styles instead of modern Christian pop. I just really hate how the Christian pop sounds. Why are they trying so hard to copy mainstream music? From my expirience with christians, christianity clearly isn't about being mainstream and "normal" 🤣 so the music should probably reflect that and not copy every aspect of pop music.. I don't care if it caters to most people because "if they're Christian they should just deal with it if they don't like the music because worship is worship." -mother. I mean youre not gonna like EVERY song. these are people who think this genre of music is satanic which is just completely wrong. So many bands from this time that were emo or rock and such were also Christian or had Christian members like the devil wears prada, we came as roman's, breaking Benjamin, Emery, copeland, and skrillex!
Lord let Your work never leave our hands :) "Let us be cold, make us weak, that's because we all have ears, that's because we all have eyes"....we are well and able..... I was in high school when under oath blew up.... Great song....
I thought this was a fitting first song to listen to as a farewell. Playing all their albums today, this band helped me through a lot and made me who I am today. I can still remember blasting They're Only Chasing Safety in my walkman when I was 14. Good times. Good luck to Underoath in their future endeavors
My interpretation of the vid: It's a land not unlike our land. Technological "advances" litter the landscape (powerlines, zeppelin, clock, ships, buildings, lightbulbs, etc)... but for all of that the land is desolate. Death has a lock on the land, and the people are nearly comatose for lack of hope. The women and children are alone, and are hoping in ships and planes (and some are hoping in God) to deliver them from the dead and depressing land. And most of the men are like skeletons, marching in line with ("clapping") to the dead spirit that grips the land. For those few men who aren't zombies/skeletons, they are still oppressed (tied to the earth/bound to the earth). For them to break free they must rise up into the heavenly places and practice spiritual warfare. The heavens are violent and intense (3:28 and on)... but a man must go there and fight if he wishes to break free (4:04 and on).
david garcia No David, you missed it. I said the same thing as you in so many words. But perhaps you weren't able to discern that? Way to correct someone with the same answer as you. Now go back to watching your guns and bullets videos. Or better yet, go and learn what this means "Our battle is not against flesh and blood..."
***** This band is nothing like Tool. Read some of the interviews of the band members (escpecially Aaron Gillespie, who is the biggest contributor to the lyrics/songwritings). These guys had/have great hearts for Jesus. Having been a fan of Underoath since Define the Great Line released, I have kept up with the members of the band and the lyricism of their music and I can testify these guys are not fake, they are the real deal.
***** You really don't need to jump the gun and make an outrageous claim when you clearly are without much understanding of who these guys stood for. Granted, a couple of their members left Christianity, but the message is still there. I can see where you could be confused. Oftentimes Christian Metal/hardcore bands will write their music based off situations or concepts. That means their music can be taken out of context easily. For example, Son of the Morning, by Oh Sleeper can be taken out of context if you don't listen to all of it. The overall concept of the album is how Satan opposes/despises God and his creation. The first song is Satan's viewpoint, then every song before the final track are stories of God using broken people to carry out his good plan. The final song is of the defeat over Satan, sin, and suffering. Listening to anyone of those songs stand alone can be very confusing without putting on the right lenses to understand them.
Do you even understand the basics of the good news of Jesus Christ?! Christ came for people, including the band members of Underoath!! And that is why they glorify God in this song, although I don't expect a religionist like you to perceive that. Haha... You have men like Tozer and Reidhead on your page- men who walked in the falsehood of religion vs the true form of Gods church, as is revealed in the scriptures. Do you know that the church is no business? Are you aware that she, like her master, despises denominations? Im sure you, being the true disciple you claim to be, are well aware of the unbiblical nature of the modern day office of the "pastor" (as Reidhead and Tozer laid claim to). Perhaps you ought to remain silent for some time and study and pray, before spouting off against some 20- something guys who, although frail, had courage to produce a song like this, which highlights the necessity of spiritual warfare in order to be an overcomer.
It's the one with the greatest of failings and weaknesses and meekness who will be amazing people. Truly able to understand what it meant and with the struggles to endure and learn to be weak so God's strength could be made perfect in you. Love you all.
OMG. I just noticed that the signs at 2:43 are written in Hungarian. I've been listening to this music and watching its music video for years, but I never noticed it. I love this song too much.
If you like the build-up based tracks with the big ass climaxes at the end, Underoath songs you might like are: • Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape • Casting Such a Thin Shadow • Paper Lung • Pneumonia
Hearing this song now makes me think about where the band has been and where it's gone! "We're forgetting our forgiveness" "Good God, can you still get us home?"
Underoath is considerably religious metal. A lot of there music "including this song" derives from there beliefs. You can listen to the music and enjoy the sound, and even enjoy the message you feel it brings. But that doesn't change the actual meaning of the song. No need for cocky people to come and smite religious folk. And no need for religious folk to feel the need to defend a song.
I'm a big fan of lil peep, and I absolutely love Hellboy, but I came here cause I was a big fan of underoath way before Peep came out. RIP Gustav Åhr u.u
cheers to underoath, one of the best bands of the decade, your music has truly moved me, you guys have touched my heart. I know what my first tattoo is going to be..
If you can't find yourself, find god. I'm agnostic (if I had to label myself...). I found myself instead. I understand why people choose to believe in god but let's not make it into a cult. You don't need religion, you need god. By god I mean a force after life that fills the void. I believe in that, I just don't need anyone else to know, or respect me for these beliefs. Religion is too self absorbed and dangerous to be what any higher power would want. Just my opinion. This song is awesome by the way :)
I always find it interesting reading the bible how angry god gets with empty sacrfices, going so far as to say that he wishes someone would close the temple so people would stop pretending to worship him until the poor and sick were cared for. So as a devout christian I agree, God doesn't want self absorbed religion. :)
I appreciate your honesty and openness. I enjoy this song very much, great meaning, and good rock build up musically. Personally, I understand what your saying about religion bogging things down. We are not cans of soup - we don't necessarily need labels. In this life, we should focus less on the labels of religion and more on the relationships at hand. Personal relationships with others, and a personal relationship with God through Jesus' works on the cross. The first lines: "Good God, if your song leaves our lips If your work leaves our hands Then we will be wonderers and vagabonds." This life is ultimately meant to point others to God - so we can all spend the afterlife with him.
The ending is legendary. Can’t count how many times I used to rewind this song on my stereo,in the car . Idk those 2 cords ringing out over the pounding drums and the vocals . Chills every time .
I just listened to a podcast and Aaron Gillespie said that if underoath would ever do an anniversary tour or something, he'd jump on no questions asked. So maybe when DEFINE THE GREAT LINE's anniversary drops in 2016 we'll have an underoath reunion tour.
I don't know if people are questioning nu-metal being a thing (which it is) or your choice of labeling them as nu-metal (which they're not), but i agree that the under-rating is strong with this one. At least now. Back then they didn't seem to be but now there are a lot more humans on earth so, yes their percentage of being listened-to has gone down, if anything, because of the number of newer humans not listening to them yet! spread the word!!
You all remember the days of downloading songs off lime wire to make the most badass soundtrack to listen to on the way to school? Those were the days…
Can this be him? The one I have waited centuries to see? How strange So far from his path that I barely see the promise of glory Can this be him? This hellboy?
