Yay!! I'm so glad The Eighth Life made this list. It's one of my all-time favorite books. It's so good! I read this probably 2 years ago, but I still think of this story and these characters at least once a week. Definitely heartbreaking, but also breathtakingly beautiful ❤
Nino Haratischvili's Eighth Life is a great read, it is long, it was originally published in German not Georgian. Drive your Plow over the Bones of the Dead is also a great read. Both of these were 5 star reads for me.
Oh my goodness! I think this is the best list so far. There are a couple of missing gems, especially the greatest living Hungarian writer, so I’ll use the Google form. But I’ve read almost all of these, and every one of the ones I’ve read is marvelous. Really, this list would make a dizzyingly great year of reading. You are only the second BookTuber I’ve seen mention Lobo Antunes-I cannot tell you how exciting that is! Many of his best works are from the 80s and 90s, but the two you listed are masterpieces. And that Thiong’o novel… I don’t know where to start. It is funny but absolutely savage political satire, among other things. Just a masterpiece. This list is so, so good. It is a wide and beautiful world!
I live in France (but I'm American) and am learning french so I try to study by reading. I found a book at a thrift store that is called 'Maria Chapdelaine'. It really took me by surprise as I thought at the begining of the novel that I knew exactly what the story would be and I was so wrong! I just found out that it has been translated into english. I highly recommend it.
So much Mieko Kawakami! That makes me happy having read two of her works. I think that synopsis of Life Form is incorrect as it's about a correspondence between two people. It was nice being able to see books I voted for mentioned here. Human Acts seems interesting to me. I should read The Housekeeper and The Professor sometime since I own a copy of it.
Shelly might particularly like Kawakami considering she wasn't a huge fan of Murakami. I remember an article covering an interview between the two where Kawakami challenged Murakami on his writing of female characters, it was a fascinating discussion.
Yeah for The Eighth Life. I hope you love it if you ever get to it ❤( thank you again for the mention 😉) Great list and so interesting to hear what everyone picked ❤
Will there still be One Piece videos? I really like it and I discovered your channel through these videos, and I don't speak English, I watch it with subtitles haha
I sent a recommendation for one of the best brazilians books published in english in the last few years. Crooked Plow by Itamar Vieira Junior. Hope you like it!
