I got a 1994 OMC Javelin 409 FS with a Johnson GT 200 Venom. Running the original OMC 3 blade 14.25 X 23P. Garmin GPS show's 72 totally empty and 63 fully loaded with my extra heavy fishing buddy. It was a mint barn find for $1,600 and was only getting mid 50's until I added a 8" Atlas hydraulic jack plate. Was going to tinker with different props but to get that out of this heavy 20' boat with just a jack plate, I'm satisfied even though the Jackplate cost me more than the entire boat, lol. Just wanted to say I know props are getting the love here but Jackplates do matter. Great Videos Ken.
The top end speed of a Tempest vs Fury depends a lot on the hull design as well. Bass Cats for example generally run faster with a Fury, where as Tritons especially the older Earl Bentz hulls run better with a Tempest. I gained about 3 MPH on the top end going from a 25" pitch Fury to a 25" pitch Tempest on my Triton with a 225 Pro XS 2 stroke. Hole shot was great with both props, on the Fury I ran with all the holes wide open, on the Tempest I have 3 large hole plugs.
I run a skeeter zx225 225 Yamaha Sho 4 stroke 25P Yamaha T-2 Get 5600 RPMs top speed 67.. I’ve seen some get mid 70s with this model boat, I do run a pretty heavy load (gear) would you say a 23pitch fury would help top speed?
I would be totally guessing, I can’t find specs on the T2 online but dropping 2” pitch 3 blade to 3 blade seems a lot. Anybody else have any ideas please chime in
I run a Phoenix 921 elite and a mercury 250 pro xs the prop I have is a 25 pitch 3 blade prop. I am just wondering if there is any other better prop for that boat I have hit 71.1 mph and and hole shot is good I just want to know if the prop I run is fine or I should buy a 24 pitch 4 blade or 24 pitch 3 blade I heard those two props are good for phoenix bass boats. But the dealer had on the 25 pitch 3 blade.
lot to unpack there, first assuming you are running a Fury if you go to a 4 blade you'll go up in pitch not down, so if you are running a 25 3 blade you''ll go to a 26 or 27 4 blade. As far as speed, that's pretty quick for a 921 Elite, if you are turning between 5900-6100 rpms I don't think you will be able to squeeze a lot more out of it,
@@KenSmithFishing thanks man greatly appreciated I am getting about 5600 rpm’s and yes it is a fury. I did watch your video. I have one more question should I stick to a fury or go to any other prop like bravo? Do you captain a THSBA team? I fish in central division.
Great job explaining this. I have a 2022 Caracal 4 stroke 225. Pole, crappie breaks, 3 lithium and one proguide amg in back. I have a 24p fury and it's a little lazy out of the hole in summer. I'm thinking a 23p fury would be the ticket for a summer time prop.
John with two fat guys and the livewells full my Lynx was lazy out of the hole when air got above 85-90 degrees, 23p cured that and it was a smidge faster in the heat
@@johnmaddoxoutdoors1537 I'd go to my nearest Merc dealer and get a price, most will, if not match, get close to online pricing and I like to support my local dealers anytime I can
23p fury is what came on my 519 with a 225hp merc --a bravo1 or marks props razor xlr might be better for your well-loaded down ride! marks propellers in IND is who to call
