I am so thankful I found your video's. You do a fantastic job explaining the camera, settings, and how they impact your pictures. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
This is an excellent tutorial. Although titled as specific for the SX series, the example photos are applicable to nearly all cameras. I learned a lot and that's on top of the large amount I already knew. Thanks and regards
very... very informative video's and you do a GREAT job of explaining complicated settings (to us beginners lol) in a simple and easy to understand way! I just picked up the SX260 and am watching all ur vid's because you give GREAT detailed tutorials! You are a great photographer and you really know your stuff... thanks for these uploads! ~Blessings~
Very helpful sir, in a both theoretical and understandable way. I'm truly an amateur, I know nothing but to click on the click button and rule of thirds, so this is really helping me out. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have just got a Canon SX700 - I've checked out your videos and they've been so very helpful as it seems these cameras are all very similar. I tried sifting through the Canon instruction manuals but found it all a bit confusing. Your videos have made getting to know my camera very easy and enjoyable. Thank you so much.
Hi, I also have the SX 700hs and am usually an auto abuser, but your videos are simple enough to help me learn and get confidence in being more artistic and trying new photos. Thank you
I have been into photography since 1979 and digital since 2002 including digital slr cameras but now i have decided to use a bridge camera , i use a canon sx50 hs which i am pleased with and i like to watch these tutorials and yours are very well presented and of course i find them very easy to follow and i like to watch sometimes from a beginners angle and i am sure a lot of beginners will get to grips with the f-stops , aperature and shutter speed maths .. well done
thanks for this video. I actually just wanted to see how to use the manual mode and viewing this video I discovered that this camera has a crazy potential :)
Alrighty! I am still somewhat confused about ISO and Aperture...BUT this is one of the few videos where I actually successfully understood some aspects of it! I feel like a whole new...PHOTOGRAPHER!
Hi they are cute, they are from a collection produced by Christine Haworth in the Leonardo and Crisalis collections. One is called the lace shawl and the other Love Letters. Thanks for your comment
Thank you Graham for y our video on canon powershot as I am having a sx50hs I have learnt a lot from your video about my camera . Please also make a video on how to shoot cinematic video with canon powershot sx50 hs. thank you
thank you so much Graham 12:57 thats what i wanted to know, cause i been taken lots of moving objects and couldn't find how to fix it.ill definite will subscribe to your channel.
The battery of the powershot range is probably lower capacity than other cameras. Things like having GPS on, continuous autofocus and high LCD brightness all will deplete the battery quicker. There are some higher capacity 3rd party batteries now available for this range which will give extra shots or recording time.
yes iso 100 or 200 is the best to use but if you are using long zoom you must ensure the shutter speed is over 1/125 by increasing the iso to prevent camera shake. If light level is low the camera cannot give a very clear video image the camera is not able to do this. and 4, it is possible the camera is using a very slow shutter speed in order to capture the scene perhaps you need to put the camera on tripod here,
Great video: note the tracking of the focus needs some settings in the menu: AF Frame=AF Tracking. which is then not compatible with some other AF settings. Pretty complex camera...
Enjoying these well constructed tutorials as I learn to use my SX50HS. You mention the next edition video which will cover SCENE MODES. Has this been uploaded to Utube as yet please?
The maximum aperture depends upon the focal length you have set, the more zoom you have the aperture will decrease. It is only f3.5 at its widest angle and this becomes f6.8 at full zoom. At full zoom you cannot go below the f6.8 only close the aperture to a minimum of f8 - thats entirely due to the optics of this lens.
Powershot SX230HS: I cannot get the Autotracking setting on in AV mode. Therefore I cannot put it 'on hold'. What am I missing or doing wrong?

When I try to set up my camera to film an HD movie (RU-vid Vid) it never goes past 720, I have a great memory card but it wont shoot 1080. Also how do I keep the focus on me and have the background a little blurry? Thanks!!
It is best to use the M mode when you want more control of iso, aperture and shutter speed. Always keep iso as low as you can, followed by shutter speed no lower than 1/30. camera shake is still the worst culprit to unsharp pictures. After that Use aperture priority and keep aperture to a low number to keep the shutter speed high. AWB should give good colour balance otherwise do a manual white balnce on a white card to set a better one.
Hello Mr.Graham, I would like to ask you about the best way to get better photos out door at night for people in low light, using my Canon powershot SX 210 IS, thanks a million.
Hello, in my particular camera, it is the left side of the wheel around the function button. But, I also have found that I must go to Menu>AF Frame>Tracking AF. If you use tracking and not center or face recognition, then you should be able to hold the focus where you want to.
graham what is better for shooting multiple photos of moving subjects?burst mode or in p mode holding down the shutter button for continuous shots?please answer
Thanks for instant response... How to can set Telephoto option in SX260 so that i get an shallow DOF in outdoors...Sorry for asking so many queries.....
Hi: I have two previous head injuries and would rather manually focus not auto focus. If I turn off the AF on the lens, can I manually focus my photos?
I'm trying to find some settings to catch ocean waves at night...Can't get clear images...I'll try playing with the settings now that I understand em more for the sx50...any suggestions would be helpful too
hi Graham, just trying AV mode and I can't seem to get the focus auto-tracking feature to show by pressing the wheel to the left. Am I missing another setting? thanks
I was almost certain I heard you mention you'd discuss scene modes in your next video. That would be great. Incidentally, the focus modes in auto are a little confusing. Shame you can't select a focus point other than centre (ie af area as with dslrs). Great fitness blog btw :-)
Hello Graham,i have a question see if you can help me,im trying to record the moon (canon powershot sx) but i cant get a full focus.. whenever it gets close to the moon it starts to get blurry. Not just the moon but also planes, birds etc. from far distance. do i have to change settings in order to make it clear enough. ?
How did you set up the center box in the middle of the pic screen - to follow the moving train or if the face moves...the box in the middle just followed along!!?? I followed till you said press the horizontal key - I got lost at that part in this vid. To be clear Sir I am asking for help. I know you da mann I just missed what to press on my SX530-SH. Thanks a mil for your great Tuts. I subscribed Sir!!!
Excellent video Could you please have one tutorial dedicated to using manual focus in this camera with regards to achieving a blur foreground or a blur background. Regards esselp
Remember this 1-2/3 inch sensor camera will have a highly inherent large depth of field. So at wide angle it is usually impossible to throw a background out of focus unless you move close to the subject. Alternatively you need to use the telephoto setting and keep close to the subject, but keeping the subject quite a distance from the background. I'll try to include more on the manual focus in a later video.
One more issue..in your video in AV mode you have mentioned that we can lock the focus on the subject by pressing horzontal navigation but i am not able to get that option...pls suggest...
I have followed the same instructions in the video for the AV mode to blur the background, but it doesn't work, i have canon SX60HS, anybody can help ?
Hi Graham, I have observed in M mode the max f value is 5 where as manual says 3.5 to 6.8 ..how can i adjust to 3.5 ? pls suggest..thkz in advance...cheers
Hi Graham, I have observed in your video "understanding Canon SX..." part 3 , in AV mode you have enabled tracking focus lock on the subject where as i tried but that feature is not avialable in my SX 260 pls suggest how to enable that...cheers
