Truly understanding common types of learning disabilities, is what makes special education teachers so successful at working with those with learning disabilities. One has to have a good understanding of what it means to have learning disabilities.
We often talk about learning disabilities as if they were learning problems. It has become a generic term, but the truth is its a Specific Learning Disabilities and two different people could have learning disabilities and yet have very different learning challenges. That is because there are several different learning disabilities (I like to say learning disabilities) that full under the umbrella of what a specific learning disability really is.
It is my hope, whether you are a teacher, parent or an administrator, that you take the time to bush up on your understanding the different types of disabilities, specific learning disabilities,- that is.

Yes, me too! I had a hard time learning how to read! Now I love reading on my kindle! I had a hard time with Math! The only thing helped me was, the secrets of mental math by Arthur Benjamin and Michael Shermer.😊

All the test and them just putting me in special ed class and never REALLY explained anything to me about learning disability. I can not comprehend things most of the time or speak without twisting thing's up. I can perfectly have a conversation with myself in my head but when I speak everything comes out wrong lol. For math I get constantly yelled at by teachers to the point I'm scared to even do math around people unless it's my family. Fractions I understand how to do it but my brain keeps doing it the wrong way.

This was very informative! There are some kids who even with a lot of support don’t seem to grow or make very little progress. Looking forward to learning about strategies to help these students!

With some kids its defiantly a marathon and not a sprint. However, the good thing to know is that they can learn. It just require the right type of instruction with the right type of intensity.

Love your work! I just wanted to add dyspraxia which can impact fine motor (writing), gross motor (running skipping hopping coordination), direction (left right), working memory, and organising planning or following sequences of directions. It can also co-occur with aphasia (speech)

Me and five of my friends have a learning disability and my one friends father treats us like we're equal to a 5 year child. It pisses me off big-time. He's mr. Perfection and his wife is mrs. Perfection. Everyone in that family is very mean scary and fricking nuts. I'm not a little kid.

Yeah! Some people are so cruel and disrespectful. Hang in there! Continue to grow and surround yourself with people who see you and not the disability.

Good afternoon and I enjoyed the video. I have a question I'm a person with learning disability due to me as a baby who was left unattended with a older girl who made me swallow a pill which was my grandmother's nerve pills due her medical situation. It took me a while to wake up until I got to the hospital which is located in New Haven CT. My biological mother who's known as an schizophrenia who was unable to care for me at that time because she had me on a schedule for a bottle feed. We'll apparently she took me on the bus which I read the report instead of calling the ambulance which I have almost died. So now it ruined my understanding of comprehensive to learn a certain task in time management even though I'm trying my best. But I'm 45 years with three children who are two adults and one teen and plus a grandmother of twins. My question is, will it affect m livable life style and employment even if I do ministry work. Also I have a learner's permit but I'm in the process of getting my driving license in CT before I move to Texas

Hi! If you are interested in getting a formal diagnosis, you will need an educational psychologist. Some insurance cover part of it. It can be expensive. However if it’s impacting you getting staying employed the you can reach out to vocational rehabilitation in your area and they will test to see where your are. I hope this helps.

A few years ago I got assessed and was diagnosed with a severe Learning Disability that affects my Nonverbal/visual-spatial reasoning, processing speed, and visual-motor integration as well as working memory. They never said what the disorder was called so I was wondering if you possibly have any idea as to what my specific learning difference is. I am starting college in the fall and want to better understand myself thank you 😊
@CindyTheLDCoach
@CindyTheLDCoach 2 года назад
When these are generally done some recommendation is mentioned. I would contact the person completing the evaluation and tell them that you have further questions they generally will answer. Also they generally have their information on the last page of the document because they are supposed to sign it. If all else fails contact the disability coordinator of the college that you are applying to.

@CindyTheLDCoach
@CindyTheLDCoach 4 года назад
Hi! Well if the child is in school and experiencing problems, the parent or the teacher can request a psychological evaluation to confirm. Short of that the characteristics of the specific issues will point you in the direction. Check out the other videos on this topic. I give pretty specific characteristics of the individual ones. Hope that helps!

is ADHD a learning disability ?
@CindyTheLDCoach
@CindyTheLDCoach 5 лет назад
Hey Amy, ADHD is not a learning disability. But one can have both ADHD and a learning disability. ADHD is consider psychiatric disorder. There is no classification for it under IDEA (Individual with Disabilities Education Act) therefore, students get served under OHI (Other Health Impairment). I hope this helps. Let me know if I can explain anything else for you.

I think this is quite different to what we mean in the UK by learning disability... (?!) - ie down syndrome or where an IQ is less than 70 I think.. I feel these labels should have the same meaning across the world really. (& NOT helpful if you are from a different country and are searching on youtube for a greater understanding of some of these things! Lesson learned -Lol...:p)

Dyslexia is the result of poor teaching in kindergarten. Basic letters and phonics not being taught correctly. All the special needs teachers will get angry and scream that I do not know what I am talking about but they are wrong. Japanese people do not have dyslexia and they have three alphabets that they have to learn. Chinese students do not have dyslexia and they have to learn and memorise thousands of characters.. Dyslexia is just an excuse used to cover up for poor teaching and an ineffective education system that has been filled full of woke ideas that have no relevance to teaching children how to survive in the real world and function in society.
@CindyTheLDCoach
@CindyTheLDCoach Год назад
You sound traumatized. But at least you know that you are mostly wrong. I agree that the US has an ineffective education system when it comes to teaching Dyslexic students especially remediating it early. But a school doesn’t cause Dyslexia. And the part about woke ideas is just really ignored on your part.
