In this video, Dr Sreedhar MS, Consultant Neonatologist and Pediatrician, Rainbow Children’s Hospital in Hebbal, speaks about congenital hypothyroidism in babies. Congenital hypothyroidism is not a rare condition. In babies who have congenital hypothyroidism, thyroid glands operate properly and are not able to produce thyroid hormones at normal levels. The condition may cause neurological and developmental issues. It may be difficult to diagnose thyroid issues in these babies as there may not be any symptoms. To diagnose the condition, a blood test is done within 48 hours of birth. Watch the video to learn more about the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid issues in children.
