This is a short video explaining contour lines on a map. It is meant for those who have had a problem comprehending exactly what they show and how they actually depict the topography. Hopefully it does what it was meant to do.
now I get it!!!! u r a brilliant teacher I always had a difficulty with this but you sir have made it so easy I can do it in a piece of cake!!!thank you so much
NOW I get it! What a great video ~ thanks for taking the time and putting in the energy and effort to make the model ~ that did it for me. You are an excellent teacher. Thank you!

Seriously outstanding work here, visualizing the true contours from the map is so important, and you clearly and dynamically do this with the cutaway hill model on the map. thanks!
I learned to navigate before GPS back in the late 80's while in the infantry with the 3/75th but this is a GREAT training aid and very well done. If someone still can't grasp navigation after this, and some dirt time......well they should just stay on the hard pan in town. Keep up the great work.
this is actually good. I walked into seeing the old maps thinking that it is going to be boring but this man kept it brief without missing out anything. I really did not expect there to be a mountain model. I think this is what really makes this video stand out.
Great video! The use of the training aids really made a huge difference. When I looked at the contour lines then watched you start to stack the mountain that proverbial light bulb went off. That really helps a person see how a flat two-dimensional image relates to a three-dimensional object in the real world.
Such a great teacher you are.Am Excited of your talented way of teaching,i clearly now see and understand what exactly contours are.Thank you very much Sir.
That was great your a super good instructor. My trip to S.E. Asia 1960s had me learning real fast how to read a map this with the help of some good guys. Been many years since I used a map but you just snapped my memory back in place. Thank you much.
"now I get it". thank you John. Brilliantly simple training aid (though I am sure it took you and your wife alot of time to make, so big thank you). Shared.
Sir actually this video is excellent for even teachers and I hope you that you add more and more videos regarding geography and cartography and get the gratitude of several thousands of people
Thank you for taking the time to do this video, it's very clear. Thank you also for taking the time to actually make a wooden model, that really helped me visualise it.

From the Islands of Tonga I really appreciate your knowledge and understanding in your work...as a student myself this has helped a 16 yo to get to the right track...May GOD bless you and thank you.
My goodness!!!! Is this really that easy to understand all along.... LOL Thank you so much Sir. You have no idea how amazed I am that I found this video. I would love to get my hands on that little puzzle figurine mountain. That's genius! :)
What a sterling explanation it was for such a sophisticated concept... really provided a humongous help in understanding it.. Thank u sir for putting such strenuous efforts
Good talk, keep talking. There really needs to be a most-excellent YT vid series on maps, map reading, contours, and all map item symbols etc, topography etc.
I recently took my 7th graders through a section on topo maps and contour lines. Wish I'd have found this vid before that section, but I'm still going to show this to them. Great vid. Thank you.
Thanks for your nice explanation it really help me out to understand the concept of contour line thank you very much sir I am studying my geography and the theme is topographical maps and I was confused in contour lines but you have helped me thank you
