Here's a philosophy. If you play an instrument and you're getting annoyed or tired of it, just remember this: you are making an inanimate object sing...
YES that's so true. I was so lucky to hear that album when i first started getting into rock music. I hope they make a comeback soon and make magic together again.
That's interesting how Dave looks at the guitar. I have been playing guitar for years, it's my main instrument. I've never learned things conventionally, still don't know all my standard chords. I've approached the guitar much in the way Dave does, following patterns and shapes, feeling out a groove rather than rely first on theory to compose. While I know I could further my reach as a musician, 90% of what I play will always be played haphazardly, experimentally. If you're anything like me, don't ever let anyone tell you how to learn something you love, and if you find rudiments and structure help your playing, don't stress it. Music is supposed to be fun.
Hah that reminds me of myself. I was never big on learning chords and theory when i first started out. I'm in on the idea that music should be fun, but if i had the choice to learn the guitar again with what i know now, i would love to go down a more strategic path. Learn from guitarists that are way better than me and know a lot of theory. There's still room for love and experimentiation despite of learning that stuff.
I'm learning drums now, and with my experience with the guitar, I'm more open to learning all the basics and techniques and improvise and experiment as I go, rather than wing it for 20 years lol... Still, sometimes you just want to bang out a tune and not give a damn.
I love seeing these videos and how little the people actually know what they're talking about. It's almost like they skim Wikipedia and read what they found. Marigold was not a collaboration. It even is on the Pocket Watch tape. Dave wrote the whole thing.
GoatOfTheMountains I think he just meant that Cobain invited the other guys to come up with ideas too, versus only writing the songs himself. The video did mention that he "sang, provided lyrics, and melody for the entire song."
I personally would have brought up Scentless Apprentice, which is the lone songwriting credit not attributed to Cobain in all of Nirvana's music. I understand that Marigold was just being used as an example to illustrate a general point, but it was a poor example.
Heheh, yeah sorry about not mentioning Alain in my Josh Homme video. He did have great importance in both qotsa and TCV (and probably other groups i can't think of now). Thanks for wathing.
His starting is pretty similar to mine..... He hates authority and so do I... He hated school, so did I.... He got bored of taking guitar lessons and learned it by himself, so did I... He's really inspiring to me! I want to be huge like him someday...this guy is very influencial in modern rock!
He really is. And i think that's why a lot of people like him. He's very open about he likes and what he doesn't like. I wish you the best in achieving your dream Joe!
Dave is just... dave I m a huge foo fighters fan for their music as well as for their mentality. I love when one of the band members is asked "what does it feel to be a rock star" then answers "I m not a rock star, I m a musician" -> taylor in back and fourth Very modest
Dave Grohl is so awesome! His talent is absolutely amazing! He is just so real and has a huge heart which makes him even better! 🧡 Got to go to a Foo Fighters concert in Milwaukee and it was such a great experience. I have had a huge crush on Taylor Hawkins since I was probably around 10. Lol
Pat Smear was in the Germs, but, dude, he was in Nirvana. He toured for the "In Utero" album, and he recorded with them on the "Unplugged in New York" album. I think this is important to illustrate his bond with Dave Grohl.
I'm going into a Dave Grohl rabbit hole.. I was a Nirvana fan who never bought a Foo Fighters album probably never will. I will always root for them though and wish them the best. Everyone is the band seems like a great person .Rock on!
This the second video I have watched..... The first vid I watched was about Josh Homme.... 3rd fav band now but I LOVE The FOO Fighters and I love the music they create with Pat Smear. 1) Queens of the Stone Age... 2) Disturbed... and 3) The Foo xD
My first concert was a foo fighters concert back in 2013 when his leg was broken and Dave was so energetic so energetic even though he was bound to the damn chair. Edit: the concert was 9/24/2015 at the sleep train amphitheatre in San Diego
Haha that's crazy. I thought that happened in 2014 though. I was also seeing the Foos in Oslo. That was right before the incident in Sweden, so i'm pretty sure it was 2014. But anyhow... Great first concert i bet! Very memorable at least.
What HASN'T Dave done? Dave has literally created decades worth of music that's been the background music of life for millions of people. From punk to Nirvana, to the Foos, QOTSA, and Them Crooked Vultures (which, if you haven't heard their one album, DO IT, STAT!), he is a one-man wall of music creator machine explosion entity (to mashup every descriptor I can find). He's super energetic, hilarious, engaging, has chutzpah to spare, is loved around the world, and seems like just such a great guy (aside from the myriad F bombs that pepper his speech 🙄). Anything the guy sets his mind to, he accomplishes. Like oh, calling up John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin and saying "hey, let's make a record together!" 😆 Or writing books. The passing of Taylor will undoubtedly take Dave on a new path, but I'd be very surprised if the Foos continued on... Funny thing: in high school, I was in pom poms (kind of like cheerleading x with dance, while wearing uniforms), and we did a routine to Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein" at halftime at one of our football games, LOL ✺◟(•◡• )◞✺
You mentioned Pat Smear as a member of the germs but didnt even mention that he was part of Nirvana!! Also "Tommy Iommi"??? Other then that, this was a pretty good video, id never even heard of that Probot project
He is so nice. Even when, paparazzi and pro signature. Surrounded him begging him to sign somthing. He kept being calm, said "I m sorry I dont sign anything unless it charity But they kept asking him. He just said ok one minute ,then he ran to his car
Foo Fighters aren't my absolute favorite band, but I feel like Dave is like the Ambassador of Rock at this point. He's like the public face and best representative of it. Deservedly so. Great series, btw. Just discovered it 2 days after APC's new record. New subscriber.
Nah they're not my favorite either. And i def agree on him being sort of an ambassador for the genre. He certainly has the leadership skills for it. And thanks for the support :) Do you have any requests for what artist or band i should talk about next?
Lie Likes Music I love Tom Waits and saw a few requests for him on the APC video. I think he has a pretty interesting story as well. Love to hear your take on it. Thanks so much. Keep up the great work!
