Dear Cwic Media I'm a ex-mo of about forty years. I came across this video. I've been through a lot over the years. This explains very accurately how Satan works. Looking back through the years I see these patterns especially with the neediness and co dependence. Well I just want to say this video was very enlightening for me.

Im working my way back too so i get wgere you are coming ftom. I kniw the Church is trye, ive akways knien thus but Satan csnr inyi my life dyring sbusive marriage, who saskt my ex hysband was a member and preisthoid holder abd Datan attacked me in these vulnerable hopeless, confusing, depressing times times i was in. I never denied the gospel but i did get lost through the years of abuse. Just pray, talk to your Father in Heaven especially when you dont feel like it. Tell him your feelungs, ask for hos help, to give you eyes and ears to see his truth and he will just as he did me. I will keep you in my prayers. I love that Dan! If you are filled with a spirit of the love of God, demons don't want to be around you, it torments them. So radiating love out into the world is your best defense against demons!

But how do you explain all the demons that Jesus encountered? It seemed the demons were always around him (sometimes in the form of people who mocked him). How do you explain the demons who tried so hard to torment Joseph Smith? You know the mobs who attacked him, many of them were possessed to certain degrees. And remember some of the early Saints who were so tormented by evil spirits that Joseph Smith recorded in the Doctrine and Covenants just how to tell evil spirits from good ones and resurrected righteous ones. These people “radiated love out into the world” yet they were still tormented by demons! Although being good and kind and living a clean life and loving God and Jesus is the best defense against them, that they might not have power over you, we need to realize that many people suffer from being bothered by demons BECAUSE they are so good and they love God and Jesus so much!!! Remember that Satan remembers who we were even before this life, even if we don’t remember him. Our spirits remember him and how terrible and frightening he was, though!! So, those demons who serve satan are mad at us and that’s why they won’t leave good, decent, loving people alone!!

@cwicmedia I just wanted to chime in once again to say what an INCREDIBLE interview and perspective is offered here. Many things I had not considered that just builds to greater heights my testimony in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When he mentions Co-dependency, man that just hit me with a brick. I find myself needing to be, what I thought was, "More than Loved". When maybe what I am asking for is someone to need me as much as I want to be needed. I'm still reeling from that perspective honestly. I don't know what life looks like from the place of "I love you, but I don't need you", in that frame work. Another interesting correlation is an old saying in the church (more than one actually) We need great speaking, and less of it. And we need great music, and MORE of it. LOL. "Consider the Lilies of the Field" has taken on new meaning for me today. Thank you for that. There are other ways I could apply this to recent conversations that have been had about where we are as a society and how we react to it in conversation, but that's a different conversation. Again, my Heart is full and excited to explore this perspective for myself. THANK YOU.

I particularly loved this episode because I really think that people do not understand the influence that Satan and his host can try to push on us in our daily lives and how we can resist this and recognize this. You talked a lot about CS Lewis and I wanted to say my favorite book he wrote was a screw tape letters which goes into detail about how exactly he gets to us which was a real eye-opener for me. Thank you so much for the episode!

C S Lewis Screwtape letters is such a great explanation of how demons work on us. C S Lewis had a very hard time writing it. The diabolical nature of the book pushed Lewis into a depression of sorts after writing it. Dr. Robert Banks, a leading scholar of Lewis from Australia said that, “Day after day of having the Devil as an interlocutor took its toll on Lewis.” The subject matter was almost too dark for Lewis to write about and engage with in such an all-encompassing manner.

Such an incredible book but it was hard to read for that same reason. I needed to read a lot of uplifting literature and scriptures to balance out how it affected me.

Same! And the inverse darker realms are “invited” in to lurk when our thoughts fixate and explore their strategems and arguments, then we give them an opening to testify and reinforce so we must make sure to be immersed in edifying counterbalanced material, lots of loving service all the while to remain protected to a higher degree.

Wow! This was perfect for me. I've been praying recently that God would help me take away this desire I have for recognition. Hearing this take on the temptations of Christ and the Sermon on the mount really helped. I have felt God wants me to serve and wants me to share more on social media, but I also have this craving for people to recognize my talents. And I don't want to do things that point to me, but I know that's my temptation. This video gave me some perspective. Thank you 😊

Most of that is good. Joseph Smith did let it be known that he was "sorry for the man" to the amount of 5 dollars. I want the people I love to know what I worked on for them. I don't want them to think I didn't care. I will still ponder this.

After enduring abuse from Vietnamese refugees the church asked my parents to sponsor-living in our house- I developed severe depression by the time I was 13. Church leaders and my parents felt that I was "under Satan's influence" and "inviting the Adversary into my life," because my body did not respond to priesthood blessings. I was then sent to places like Provo Canyon for almost four years to take care of it. What I have endured is beyond reprehensible, but seems to still be supported. Demons. Come on. I have seen more evil in people claiming to discern such things just to bolster their reputation in this church. It's damaging and needs to be acknowledged. I am not alone in this. If you want to know why people leave, you need to really LISTEN.

Performing service and good works anonymously is such a kick!! I think it should be a trend and in vogue for parents to collude with their kids in secret service throughout the year. We grew up with the “Family Night Fairy” and we would prepare fun treats or needed gifts in a basket for several families with a cute note signed by the Family Night Fairy and Monday nights we would doorbell ditch several homes in our ward Boundaries to bring them joy or new clothes or shoes for families who had hit hard times. We also colluded with other families during the holiday season and delivered Thanksgiving boxes or Christmas boxes of foods to make the meal, and toys/clothes/personal hygiene gift baskets for homes having needy times. It fed the soul to shower gifts without the ability to receive the thanks. Kids love to sneak, and teach them rather than sneak around as mobs doing vandalism (egging cars, toilet papering homes) and pranks, but pranking in the name of the Lord in angelic deliveries showing love and concern to remedy trials rather than pour lemon juice on a wound.

Most people find Satan is real before they find Christ. They just don’t define him always. Thanks for your help. I have always believed we need to use the priesthood more to bless others with protection from evil spirits and even power over them specifically when needed.

Great discussion! I'm reminded of the interaction of Moses with Lucifer, where Moses doesn't seem to know who Lucifer is, but can discern that there is a significant difference in his appearance compared to that of God.

Most men aren't like Moses. Satans teaching is generally received very well. Most men will take any preacher who doesn't preach repentance. Moses had sense enough to not be fooled with satans magic apron or fake badge of authority. He refused to lick boots. Moses asked him for I.D. because Moses knew he was a child of the God of glory and Satan was darkness.

@@williampaul7932 I think my pain happened because of my disobedience to correct principals. When I was young I used harmful substances and now I'm paying the consequences. Had I cared more for my body I wouldn't be in this situation. I don't believe Satan or evil spirits are to blame. The devil didn't make me do it.

Holy moly. Neediness brings hell, abundance brings heaven. Not physical things, but things of the next world. That’s why Christ says, “blessed are the poor,” because they know how to create for themselves that of which they stand in need.

I was just pondering all of this. I know when I'm presented with truth when it begins to expand my understanding, so I began applying some of these ideas to other situations. For example, try considering the parable of the ten virgins in light of the definition of codependency you gave. Some Church members have told me they sometimes think the five wise virgins were a little uncharitable in not sharing their oil. But the fact is that they can't. For one thing, it's not possible to give God's influence to another; that requires a personal experience. Second, if they could give it, they would be enabling the five foolish virgins in their inaction--codependency. But, the five wise virgins did do the only thing they could do, which was to point the others to where they could obtain the oil for themselves.

The wise can't give their conversion out to others. That's why we point others to the prophets in living the teachings of the gospel in order to become converted. Because there's no other way to become converted. But the foolish thought they could live off the borrowed light of others....But you can't live like a spiritual vampire sucking the light out of others.. You have to have the light within yourself and that's only possible when you are living the gospel.

I'm surprised you don't incorporate Satan's idea that all would be saved. I see so many similarities between what Satan wanted and government proposes. "Behold, here am I, send me, I will be thy son, and I will redeem all mankind, that one soul shall not be lost, Satan's idea is that our salvation is guaranteed by him which seems to parallel communism with Stalin.

Oh im so happy to see another LDS that discerns the very things you said. I do not intend to be mean but so many lds and non lds need to wake up to these very facts you mentioned. " you will own nothinh and be happy' " "We must depopulate humans to save the planet" " Ahhh, Govt will save you, no need to worry" We must ask, how many inckudinh lds will fall for this evil as they presnt it in a way that is cari ng for all??? Talk about great Tribulations about to be upon us!! This will be allowed for a season before Christ comes back to destroy the evil ones!! Has not every nation, peooles in the nook if mirmon been destroyed because of evil leaders? How do so many miss these things?

Approximately 1:06: I’m a little confused with you both expressing the need to cast Satan and his demons out is “not in a manual and is not a priesthood ordinance.” My mind immediately went to the temple endowment were we witness Satan being cast out. I’ve always thought that to be a blue print of how it should be done if ever a need arose. What am I missing, I’d love to better understand. This was a most uplifting and thought provoking show, thank you both so much. Also if I might add, I come from a part of the world where delving into the occult and sheer evil is a way of life. Witch Doctors have plagued Africa since the beginning of time and since fairly recent times (1978) there has been a palpable feeling of pushback on these evil practices and I firmly believe it’s coming from the tens of thousands (and growing) of worthy priesthood holders and their families now populating the continent. Yes, while serving a mission! Those were my first encounters with evil spirits. When I woke up in the middle of the night because my spirit was obviously alarmed, and then I discovered I couldn’t move, and the wall even appeared to be moving in a wave pattern, I thought, “Oh, brother! They think they can actually get ME??!! How ridiculous!!!” Then I decided they weren’t worth my time and effort or even bother, so I decided to let my drowsy self go right back to sleep! I also couldn’t help feeling: I’m the best behaved that I’ve ever been at this time in my life, and I’ve enjoyed being obedient throughout my life, so I can’t believe they’re stupid and desperate enough to attack ME!! That’s where the “Oh, brother!” feeling came from! I just thought they must be mad at the success we’re having!!

Here is some thinking .the essence or purposes of life is growth and to become and to overcome. I had polio when I was two years old. I know that even in growth and becoming more there must be opposition in all things. Polio affects the body where it is weak or no muscle in some areas of my body .where one muscle puls the leg up the other one pushes the leg down .satan rebelled so that he could be our opposition for the calisstecticks of growth and becoming more like our Heavenly Father. This way we have chose agency. To grow up and become more like our Heavenly parents. Or we can choose to be weak and not grow up and not become like God . so some people choose to love darkness more than light .to be grateful is to be happy. Being happy is the way to have more of the things of God.

That was such a fabulous discussion thank you for doing that a little thought that I have which may seem kind of silly was in the Harry Potter movie where he is temporarily kind of possessed by Voldemort and Voldemort thinks he's got him and then Harry says I feel sorry for you because you've never known love and voldemort can't handle that so he leaves

I don't think Harry Potter was the problem because in the end good triumphs over evil there are many valuable lessons to be learned from those books that literally swept the world if you can find those messages. general authorities have quoted from the Harry Potter books there's a really good talk from the Logan Institute in Utah using Harry Potter imagery I guess it's just the way in which you perceive it I think one of the points of the cwic discussion was that we can't let any outside influence push us in any direction that we don't want to go. Sickens Christmas Carol has great messages even though it involves ghosts which is alittle different of course but still uses.that imagery

@@tarp11z I think the Harry Potter series is a marvelous metaphor. In the end, it is the love of Harry's mother that saves him and allows him to save everyone else. The subject of "witchcraft" is really just a metaphor for "gifts" and how they are used.

In the Book of Mormon, we are told that Christ turned to the 12 disciples and told them not to worry about preparing for the future. he did not say this to the multitude, only the 12. I think that’s a great clarification that the Book of Mormon makes.

How could anyone not believe in demonic possession or demons Latter-Day Saints believe in visions and God coming to Joseph Smith and all kinds of good visitations and Angels so why not the opposite, it would be ludicrous, it would be illogical not to believe in the dark if you believe in the light.

Very interesting podcast , as usual , and very timely . To take from others without their permission, which is EXACTLY what social justice is , qualifies as stealing . It occurred to me the other day that the Tower of Babel was the same thing that is going on today . It was a group of people who were playing God because they knew better . It is two very different things to help individuals after considering their needs and thinking you have the intelligence AND calling to restructure society based on YOUR ideas . Christ worked with individuals in his ministry and ultimately died for each one of Us individually….the Atonement is personal . I will hand over ALL my property , resources and possessions if called to by God who ultimately owns them . No man owns them. FYI …Marx openly admits he turned from God and to Satan when he heard Satans voice . I am convinced he was taught what Cain and others were taught at satans feet . He was true evil taught by Satan . The statement that change without an eye toward REDEMPTION is not inspired change is hitting the nail on the head …the World in 2021

Satan tells Jesus to throw himself off the temple because it is written that angels will bear him up. Jesus doesn't do it. Why? Because Satan doesn't make the rules. We don't play his games. Remember this when folks tell you, you have to get the jab or anything else.

Needful people are usually those who don't want to work for blessings if they have the opportunity. Thus, the 1/3 of heaven is needful, they didn't want to work for it.

Maybe the reason people have worshiped or do worship false idols is because of just that...they are false therefore not real and they don’t hold a real position or authority over anyone. Those people , therefore can always feel supreme to those idols. They replace God, who certainly holds a position over his children with those things that they instead hold position over and can ultimately control.

Greg, I am wondering if I misheard something you said: I knew that there were multiple temples in Israel, but had not found any information on multiple temples in Jerusalem at the same time. I know of Melchizedek's in the city of David and the several iterations of Solomon's, but not any more than one there at a time. Did I hear you right that during Lehi's era there were more?

You heard right. And there were numerous Jewish temples in Judah as well as at least two in Egypt, one in Upper Egypt and one in Lower Egypt. I have a question . In premortal life one third kicked out of heaven . Does anyone know if it was both male and female ? Is there any scripture or teaching from anyone if they are both male and female ? Has anyone in record who have seen evil spirits seen both male and female ?

As much as I like this discussion, I think it's worth going deeper into codependency. It's a much deeper discussion than was represented here. It involves childhood abuse, certain personality disorders, and several other factors. Trying to confront codependency from the Church seems cursory and preliminary to a much larger problem. But it is certainly is worth the discussion in the context you're presenting.

“I don’t know that you need the priesthood to perform an exorcism” I wasn’t expecting to hear this, but it makes a lot of sense to me, if I’m understanding you correctly. On my mission we met a man who was not a member of the church describe how he performed an exorcism on a young girl possessed by a demon. It really shook my companion up a bit because she didn’t understand how he could do that without the PH. (It didn’t shake me because I couldn’t understand what he was saying, I didn’t speak Spanish yet hahaha). But I’ve always pondered that. Am I understanding you correctly? Simply having the love of God expels and repels demons away from an individual? PH authority is not necessarily needed?

Luke 9:49 says the apostles saw someone casting out devils in the name of Christ and they told him not to because he was not a follower of Christ. Jesus told them to let the man do it. Many will be told in judgement that even though they cast out demons in the name of Christ, they never knew him. Ironically, they probably brought others to Christ without following Him themselves.

This really intrigued me because I have been tormented by Satan in the way that he tried to destroy my confidence as a mother using intrusive thoughts and gaslighting. It was pure hell and it was God that got me through it. I suffered so much and for so long because I realized later that Satan tried to convince me that these terrible thoughts were not from him but were just in my head because I was crazy. I had no idea other mothers experienced this too. I have since been able to help others. I am so much more aware than the average person how real satan is and I understand now why I had dreams in years past that would prepare me for this battle I fought. It was worse than battling cancer. Thank you for this video and your many other videos!

Not much of this in The Book of Mormon, thanks for bringing some of this out. Another thing I was deliberating on. Is how well educated were Lehi and his sons? You don't hear about places of education in the Book of Mormon. The glory of God is intelligence.

They were schooled by the Holy Ghost, just as Jesus was. There’s your very complete answer! I value education and I have earned a Master’s degree and I’m a teacher by profession, but I think you’re putting way too much emphasis on education! Remember that the brilliant Joseph Smith was lacking in traditional education, yet it is claimed by the Church that he did more for mankind than anyone else, except Jesus Christ!

I am more worried about unclean spirits. They have already had a body and don't need permission to possess a body. They can possess a person who is drunk or on legal/illegal drugs.

I have a sister that after making a satanic movie where she comes out of a pig and blood and sacrifice everywhere she started having problems and the doctors told us that she became bipolar. Two souls in one body-my opnion. One of her sides is not even worthed to described. I just don't understand why one side can be so evil. Also, she has vivid visions with someone who tells her that she belongs to him. Another sister told me that she actually saw that spirit hanging around her. Anyways, we are from Brazil, and even though most of the time she looks normal there is something in there that lives with her and stops her from making good decisions in her life.

It can likely be a familiar spirit (a deceased ancestor or relation) which has taken up residence or a demon, a spirit which did not keep its first estate and so did not receive a body thru birth and seeks to control the bodies of sons/daughters of Adam and Eve. Either way …It should be cast out, in which the name of Jesus Christ is helpful or if your sis will attend church, sing hymns, do good service, do loving things, that can very well cause it to leave on its own.

A couple things about what was said... First, I think, and I know this is so unfair, that those who have a mental condition/illness, caused by a number of diverse things, can put people in a weakened mental state where they are more susceptible to demonic influence. I think we see evidence of this when someone with severe depression takes their life. Next, are those in the extreme case when one is mentally affected by a horrific experience. A friend told me an incident them and their companion witnessed when they were missionaries in North Carolina. They were in the "Projects" and visited a house and were taken to a girl who was possessed. The girl had been gang raped, which I think severely affected her emotional state, putting her in a state of mind that was vulnerable to the work of demons.
