In this part of the EVPN-VXLAN series, we will look at the different EVPN (Ethernet Virtual Private Network) routing types. Specifically asymmetrical routing and symmetrical routing. This is an advanced topic but as always the basics will will be covered first such as:
- What is a MAC-VRF
- What is an IP-VRF
- How do we route between VNI's
- What is asymmetrical routing, the packet journey and its limitations
- What is symmetrical routing and its packet journey.

In symmetric routing case, how does the leaf1, 5010 mac-vrf IRB gateway determine that it need to transit to 'leaf2" specifically?

Could you plz explaine anycast gateway too? for example, I wonder what leaf switch that the actual gw ip address configured? and if that leaf was down, what happens to the hosts to get another networks that needs to routing?

Please check out part 2 of this series where Anycast Gateway is explained 👍 If a leaf device had the gateway addresses (anycast) this would be ERB model. Hopefully a server attached to it is multihomed as if the leaf goes down and that server only has 1 connection for networking; then that server is in deep trouble till the leaf comes back up. But in a multi homed environment using ERB, each leaf device would have the same anycast gateway virtual ip and MAC address. So if a lead were to fail and if a server was multi homed, then it would still see that anycast ip address but now with only one valid next hop, not two.
