They need to take all that information and place them onto the appropriate WMA’s listed in the app. I would love to be able to open the app, click hunting areas and find the rules and regs posted on each WMA I click on.

I'm glad you made this video. long story short I joined the military some years ago and haven't hunted in ga since last year. That was the first time in 8 years I had hunted the state. Before that I always had access to some manner of small private land. Since then I lost all those connections. I definitely was annoyed reading through the regs looking at all this stuff for each wma. I didn't care for alot of it because of the limited dates most wmas I looked at it was like you had 4 days one week then it's closed for a month then open for 2 weeks etc. That was my biggest dislike or complaint, it henderd or limited my personal opportunities. I felt indifferent because up to that point most of the public land in other states I've been stationed have been western states. most of those states you hunt on a national forest or blm land so the hunting rules are basically the same by unit and very straight forward. In states like that once the season begins for a certain weapon, animal, and unit that public land is open for use until the season is closed and even after its still open to the public for use but hunting isn't permitted. However once and a while a unit may be closed due to and environmental or leasing issue etc. but thats extremely rare. With Georgia I was in shock and confused about how limited general firearms opportunities were as well that weren't qouatas etc. , I was even more shocked that I'm active duty, presently but according the dnr I was unable to qualify for veteran hunts that weren't qoutas because i wasn't a "veteran" . That said I still had a good time hunting and took advantages of a few places near my father in Byron ga for archery deer. I didn't harvest anything but again good trip and learning experience. actually the 2 places I hunted or had access too, they were nice and I feel if I'd had the chance to scout in the off season I actually would have harvested something of good size. while I was out there hunting public land alone my biggest fear was Mr. green jeans. not that I don't play by the rules but I'm truly paranoid of them, or them trying to interpret I'm doing something wrong because they can. I had a experience where I got a warning and after that it just made me paranoid. the only time i hunted georgia land in the past was when i was a kid, so going it on my own for the first time was a bit weird but i think id be more comfortable doing it now. I'm currently "abroad" missing the season but happy hunting to all you hunting Georgia this season.

I’m from Byron Georgia as well, it can be hard to find good places to hunt if you don’t have access or permission to private land, currently I have access to private land and always have, but I’m always curious about opportunities on WMAs if I ever lose my access. I love hunting, I hate how hard it’s become to hunt.

#1 reason for Hunter confusion. Laziness. Read regs. #2 yes, confusing/ difficult to interpret regs.

I've been hunting in the US and Canada for over 50 years. We moved to Georgia 5 1/2 years ago and eventually obtained a Lifetime Sportsmans license (nice!). Then I proceeded to study the WMAs rules and regs. What the ....? Why so complicated? I decided to simply not hunt in Georgia.

Thank you for doing this. The website is very confusing. As a new Hunter I see conflicting dates. I plan on hunting Dawsonville WMA. And I know on the website it has fire arm dates ranging from October 22 to January 8. However, when you go to sign in it says it’s not a designated hunt time. This is confusing. Why have those dates with the species able to be hunted but then not allow sign in for those hunts. I can provide a link or screenshot if that helps explain what I’m talking about.

Great info!!!! I’m a college student coming from Alaska. I do have one question for ya! Are there any rules on scouting before season? I live right next to Dixon memorial WMA and plan on chasing turkeys. But want to get familiar with the area and put in some footwork. Does this require sign in’s?! Thanks in advance!
@MobileDeerHunter
@MobileDeerHunter 3 месяца назад
Sorry for the late response. There are no rules against scouting before season. You just need a valid hunting or fishing license to be on the WMA. And yes, you will need to sign in for the turkey hunt. You can do that on the DNR's Outdoors Georgia app or online.

New to hunting WMA in GA. As for scouting a wma, is that open all year long? What is the common courtesy for other hunters? Is it acceptable to go in the day before and put up stands etc?
@MobileDeerHunter
@MobileDeerHunter 6 месяцев назад
Alex, Yes, you can scout WMAs all year, as long as you have a valid hunting or fishing license. Keep in mind, though, that a lot of WMA roads get closed outside of hunting season, so you may have to park at a gate and walk in further than you normally would. You can put your stand up the day before a hunt, but keep in mind if you get there the next morning and someone else has already setup where you have your stand, you'll need to back out and go somewhere else. Hanging a stand doesn't "reserve" a spot. Public land is always first come, first served, so I always try to get there early if I know there's going to be a crowd. Hope that helps! Brian Grossman

Planning to hunt a upcoming sign in hunt. Do I have to bring harvested deer by check station on a sign in hunt ? I know you check them in on the bonus hunts.
@MobileDeerHunter
@MobileDeerHunter Год назад
On a sign in hunt, no. You’ll just mark it on your harvest log or on the app, and you’re good to go. Just like you’re hunting private land.

For someone brand new to hunting and living is ga cause of the military what would be a checklist of things to have or do before hunting an wma land there is one close to my house and I stumbled upon it. Please any info to make sure I am legal and prepared would be great
@MobileDeerHunter
@MobileDeerHunter 6 месяцев назад
Daniel, there is no special permit needed to hunt WMAs. You just need your hunting license, and if you're hunting deer, turkey, or bear, you will need a Big Game license and the free Big Game Harvest Record. Keep in mind that each WMA has its own season dates and regulations, so be sure to look up any WMA you plan to hunt in the back of the Georgia hunting regulations booklet to see what seasons are open before you head out there. As long as the hunt isn't listed as a quota hunt (those have the letter Q with a number beside it in the regulations), then anyone can participate. If you are hunting deer, bear or turkey, you need to sign in to the WMA before hunting. You can do that on the Georgia DNR website or on the Georgia Outdoors app. Hope that helps.

I just bought a house that borders a WMA, do I have to sign in every day? Coming from Idaho where it is quite a bit simpler. Thanks for the video
@MobileDeerHunter
@MobileDeerHunter Год назад
Adam, you typically only have to sign in once PER HUNT. So if the WMA is open the entire archery deer season, you would only have to sign in one time prior to hunting. If the WMA has two separate firearms deer hunts - one in October and one in November - you would need to sign in once for each of the two hunts. Hope that makes sense.
@xxxarmycop

@@MobileDeerHunter I appreciate the reply/info. Do I have to sign in at the gate or can I do it online and then enter the NWR from my back yard? Once I get settled in you would be welcome to join me. I'm not far from you and I'm on the West side of the Bond Swamp NWR
@MobileDeerHunter
@MobileDeerHunter Год назад
@@xxxarmycop My information was for Georgia WMAs, which are operated by the Georgia DNR. NWRs have completely different regulations, and each one is different, so you'll need to check with that specific one to see what they require to hunt.

An old timer hunter told me that I have to go to the check in station at Yuchi for a bonus hunt prior to going to my hunting spot, is that accurate?
@MobileDeerHunter
@MobileDeerHunter 9 месяцев назад
You should be able to check yourself in online or using the DNR's app, so there is no need to go by the check station first. If you kill a deer, then you definitely have to take it to the check station on bonus hunts.
