Yes, impedence does really matter. It's likely that the same transducer (speaker) at two different impedences will sound different.

Thanks for the information. I feel more informed about sound.

Impedence is one of many specs that could be considered a guideline. What will you be listening with...a portable music player (like an iPod) or a home stereo? A portable device often doesn't have a powerful amplifier, therefore a headphone with higher sensitivity (which is usually coupled with a low impedence) might be a good choice.

As a general rule, no. A variety of factors will determine what headphone or earphone is the best for someone...price, form factor (earphone, closed-back headphone, open-back headphone, etc.) and how/where the product will be used.

sir, i just want to ask. i recently bought a high gain guitar amplifier but when i plug my marshall major headphones. there is very little sound comming out from it and was not very clear. i checked the impedance of the headphones it is 32 ohm. does this mean i need a higher impedance headphone? please give me an expert advice.

Chris Lyons' voice is nearly indistinguishable from Bryan Cranston's. Wow!

Ok so currently i own Sennheiser's HD 25 1-II wich are rated at 70 Ohms but I know that somewhere in time they made a 600 Ohm version of the same headphone. The only difference would be how loud they sound?

Why does the source impedance have to be less than the headphone impedance? If I'm not mistaken, if the source and headphone impedance match, then there is maximum power transfer, and the load loss is less. If the headphone impedance is eight times that of the source impedance, shouldn't that draw less current, causing you to turn your volume up more than regular to be able to hear?

+nishad nadkarni In the case of headphones, the main goal is great sound. Headphone driver impedances are frequency dependent. If the amplifiers output impedance was matched to the headphones impedance at, let’s say 1kHz - (typical measurement point for audio response measurements) then the driver would reproduce more or less energy at different frequencies (above or below 1k) depending on the impedance curve of the driver. In a nutshell, you would end up with something that didn’t sound very good. Following the 1/8 rule helps to minimize this and other possible issues. There is a great deal of information online about this. Here is a link to one spot that seems to cover it: nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/headphone-amp-impedance.html

Is the product with highest ohm best to look for?

Does Impedence really matters? If for example, I have two of the same pair of headphones but one has an impedence of 70 Ohm and the other have something like 200 Ohm, will they sound different?

yup as an electronic engineer, i put a custom pcb amp board in between my phone and shure215e.... i have the second fastest bike possible (mine is 23k as is and the fastest is close to 50k) so i put said amp between these to things and lets just say i now own 3-4 sets of se215s because the first set i have are going to wait to try to get a repair and the amp in question was only amplifying to 3watts........ gawd stupid engineering mistake

i dont know why but many hp like dt880 (300ohm) sound brighter than 32ohm and 120ohm version Btw im about to buy 1450 ohm elctret vintage philips hp o_o dunno how am i gonna drive it trough konnekt 6, but for 5€ its a steal anyways

You should be able to find the impedance of your phone through the manufacturer's specifications sheet.

of course, the 200Ohm headphone will be more quiet if it got the same efficiency.

This is bs "guide", because there MUST be some criteria that could show if sound is absolute garbage and other is much better! Some headphones sound significantly worse than other no matter what fucked up ears you have.
