Understanding how the Chinese lunar calendar works

Chinese New Year not are lunar calendar. It is lunisolar Calendar农历……，Both have references。I don’t know why us have to follow the translation in Western countries? This will cause confusion.

Basically there's two counters. one that Loops between 1 and 10, Elements, and one that Loops between 1 and 12 which are the zodiacs. So year 1 could be represented as 1 for element and A for zodiac. 1A. Year two would be 2B. Because the elements will loop back to one before the Zodiac does. The thirteenth Year would be 3A. It takes exactly 60 years for the entire process to repeat.
