Thankyou your delivery in teaching was clear consise and delivered in a way which your verbal speech really ensured the audience could hear you clearly which allowed myself and the audience to really encapsulate what was being said tine and speed of speech is vital to the listener. Thankyou for sharing some or if not the best advice on how to identify the heirachy and the aspects of one's lifestyle that are incorporated into the hierarchy.

20th like and third comment. Now for the video, I think Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is under utilized in life of most people.

I believe Maslow forgot a crucial need. That is the need to tranced the ego, recognize it as a tool and operate from a place of higher awareness that observes thoughts, feelings, and egoic identity.

So buy groceries get a job prepay rent for a couple months get laid hang out with friends and call you family before you start thinking about your dreams and hobbies otherwise you wont be looking at it with a clear lense. 🤷‍♂️

Maslov didn’t make the pyramid model. He described it more as a staircase where one holds higher and lower rungs simultaneously, moving up and down as needed.

'Taking a dump' haha. Great video, really helpful - is there a video of how to achieve these levels through practical & psychological means? Action is more significant than awareness. Thanks

I'm afraid there is no one fits all solution to these layers. There is an endless variety of foods that you could user to deal with hunger and similarly there are tons of ways to make money and get a sense of security. Relationships and intimacy depend on personal preference and are unique. In the same manner esteem needs can be fulfilled in many ways and the self actualization stage is inhabited by people from all professions being it politicians, artists or religious people. However, one thing that Maslow talked about that seems to be common around the highest layer is on the one hand creativity and more importantly moving from d-values (deficiency values) towards b-values (being values). I recently made a short series about Maslow and in that we talk about b/d values/needs. I think its the last video of that series but I'm not entirely sure. (The series is only 3 videos each around 5 minutes) I don't have a link right now but you'll find it if you check my recent uploads (thumbnails with a green sweater) hope that helps

@@PersonalPower yes that helps massively and I'll find the videos on RU-vid. I ask because I'm currently creating an new initiative that incorporates Maslows pyramid of needs alongside other well being principles etc. Thank you very much. Take care and I appreciate your time, energy and response.

Why is it that the higher I get on Maslow's pyramid, the harder and less rewarding it gets?
@siyabongabaloyi
@siyabongabaloyi Месяц назад
The higher you get on the pyramid is the lesser it becomes about external/tangible results so if you feel like it's less rewarding that's because you haven't shifted your focus from external rewards.

Isn't this just Buddhism diluted for the sake of palatability? Maslow literally uses the phrase "obliteration of the ego."

I think its similar to taoism and buddhism because its a road map of how you can live the way nature intended.

Why do you believe that sexual intimacy is considered a basic need? It is necessary for procreation but not to living a happy life. I would say intimate relationships are necessary. Is this just the culture of the time he lived in? What are your thoughts on this?
@PersonalPower
@PersonalPower 4 года назад
Because it is so deep in our genes that only few people can really go completely without it. Sure it is not a necessity like food, but its still quite important to most people. I would not say that it is due to the times that we live in. There is a reason why prostitution is often described as the oldest profession. I'd say sex is much more basic then having intimate relationships simply because humans and animals had sex way before they ever had intimate relationships. Now you could certainly live without it but this does not mean that it is not a basic need for most people, but it obviously isn't quite as basic as having food and water since you need those to survive.

In nature we are here to procreate and that is our number one mission. There are many great examples in nature to prove this like the peacock. The peacock has sacrificed its maneuverability and ability to hide from predations to maintain a tail that will attract a mate. The desire to procreate is stronger than hunger and will have us accept unnecessary danger to be successful. All creatures are here to keep the species going and its in the DNA The genetics in animals and humans show this is nature not nurture.

@JonathanDFielding

Sex is not a basic need, not on layer 1, but should be on layer 3 with relationships. How can you tell? Imagine you're a refugee from a major natural disaster and all of your basic needs have been shattered. If you're looking for food and water then I guarantee sex is far from your mind in those moments. Layer 2, if you have found food and water and you don't know where you're going to sleep tonight, again I guarantee that sex is going to be far from your mind. Sex is NOT a layer 1 or 2 need. I'd call it 3 or possibly up there in 4 with esteem.

Having some structure and order would belong to the lower more rudimentary levels. However, this is a little tricky since some people require an ordered environment to focus whereas others can operate from vastly disorganised places. There is a base need for a little structure but the extent to which we experience it varies drastically.

You used the term good in your video is being productive and physically healthy (excercising enough & eating healthy food) included as well. Since good is quite a vague term to aplly to situations and can sometimes be quite subjective.
@PersonalPower
@PersonalPower 3 года назад
You're right good is indeed a vague term and what is deemed as good depends on the person and situation. Staying perfectly objective is very difficult and part of what makes this channel is my personal perspective and opinion and ideas. I try to somewhat balance objectivity and my personal opinion but in most videos is a personal aspect.
