@@clarasgift3067 The mother's is her trauma from the(white) people at the beginning who killed her baby. The younger daughter I believe it's just due to her not having friends and being lonely. It’s a show about the history of Compton. A story that hasn’t been told yet, despite it being a very important one. Ultimately, this story needed to be told and ignoring racism while telling it would be absurd because it had a lot of influence in the things that took place at the time. My father was Henry Emory's age and served in WWII. He would never talk about it and advised me and my brothers to never join the military. We found a box of medals after he passed. Da tap dance man, to me, is the antagonist working to undermine the guard we constantly have up to keep us from seeking retribution. The guard we keep in place from becoming a monster/beast. That is a battle we sometimes lose. "Watcha gon do" is a taunt to take action/get revenge/become the beast. Jeremiah Birkett rendered an Awesome, AWESOME! portrayal. I wonder if he is a method actor. Note: redlining was federal law in 239 cities until 1996. “No such thing as systemic racism” my eye! I was personally and directly redlined twice in my life so…I have my guard up.

The deeper meaning is the melanated man having to shuck and jive in certain areas of his life just to be “accepted” in society. Same way Ruby Lee has a lack of self love, so she doesn’t want to be like her mom or her family. A lot of melanated men and women still deal with these problems till this day. Youngest daughter has to do with wanting a white teacher, because the original teacher for anybody is the mother. The melanated woman is shown to be incompetent throughout history, so the daughter wanted a white teacher even though her mother taught her just the same if not better.

As an african american viewing "tap dance man", he evokes an odd rollercoaster of emotions. I hate the racist depiction of tap dance man but he is also very energetic and entertaining. Not to mention down right terrifying. He speaks his mind in a racist, yet accurate depiction of how the world did view and treat our people. I hate to admit i would probably sit down and have a beer with the guy just to hear his perspective. Ive never hated someone and loved them at the same time. Truly a unique character

It’s different when you’re watching a movie because you can finish it in like a couple of hours but a whole show of these racially segregated, harsh times is a lot to take in. I think every actor did such an amazing job even the little girl. She is so adorable.

I really hate one even black people say that black people are sensitive or did he did stop making up stuff to make themselves feel bad you know because so many of humans love to say that black people are so sensitive and the only reasons why they probably would watch the show is use this as a reason why to say that but in my opinion I don't feel like we're sensitive I just feel like we're just saying the truth because in society we really are looked at as the outcasts what I really looked at as a black sheep yes some of us react really crazy and I can agree but don't say that we're being overly dramatic because that's not true at all
