I used to be in the Lordship Salvation camp, more or less, and was confused about Soteriology for many many years until about 18 months ago when my theology on Salvation had begun a revolutionary change, by God's grace. But what is so astonishing to me is that the very verses that Lordship Salvation teachers and their adherents use to attack us who believe in free grace as damned to hell, is that those verses are actually speaking about them. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ Matthew 7:21‭-‬23 ESV I've heard John McArthur preach on this passage before, and i truly believed his teaching, that the passage was describing those who are Christians in name only, who profess to know the Lord, but were not actually Christians. It was only recently that I had a big "aha moment" and i understood that these verses are actually talking about false teachers like John McArthur and their Lordship Salvation nonsense. Lordship salvation is not the Gospel, it is filthy garbage dressed up in a fine suit and masquerading as Truth. McArthur and many other prominent teachers like Piper for example, are modern day Pharisees. They are blind guides caught in a delusion. These are extremely popular teachers and their false teachings are so subtle and convincing to their many followers. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 2 Timothy 4:3 ESV This is another passage I've heard McArthur preach attacking us who believe in free grace. But I think it aptly applies to McArthur and his many followers who would rather puff themselves up by their own righteous deeds instead of owning up to their own lawlessness. Wake up, preacher, it might be you who will be crying out "Lord Lord" on that fateful day. This is the only requirement to be saved. Pay attention if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 ESV

Believers have His perfect righteousness imputed to our account. Romans 4:5-8. Romans 3:26-28. Salvation is totally apart from any works. It is a free GIFT, so no man can boast. Second Corinthians 9:13 Thanks be to God for His UNSPEAKABLE GIFT, ETERNAL LIFE. What were those in Matthew 7 doing. They were boasting in what they did. Not what Jesus did for us. They never did the will of His Father in heaven. John 6:40. And this is the will of Him who sent me, that ALL that SEETH the Son, and believeth on Him, may HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE, AND I WILL RAISE HIM UP ON THE LAST DAY. Man can do nothing to save himself. We can only be saved by what Jesus did for us plus nothing. John 3:16-18. Jesus said it, we believe it, and that settles it. John 6:47. Gods word. People believe it is to simple. That we must have to do something. That is why most people are not saved. They are trusting in their own works, not the work of God. John 6:29. Jesus, answered, and said unto them, this is the work of God, that ye believe on the one He has sent plus nothing. Nothing else can save us, accept what He did. First John 2:2. And HE is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but for the sins of the WHOLE WORLD. But, John 3:18. Believers are no longer condemned, but UNBELIEVERS are condemned already because they have not believed on the name of the Son of God. Our works could never save a sinner which we all are. Romans 3:23. Romans 3:9-10. So God sent His only Son, Jesus, to die to take the punishment we deserve. He paid our sin debt in full when He was on the cross and said"IT IS FINISHED" That is an accounting term, meaning PAID IN FULL. John 3:18. Romans 6:23. For the penalty for sin is death, BUT, (the good news) THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE, THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD. He paid our sin debt in full, sealed us with the Holy Spirit of promise, unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 1:13-14. Ephesians 4:30. Our guarantee of eternal life. The gospel that saves. First Corinthians 15:1-4. That Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures, that HE was buried, and rose again on the third day, according to the scriptures. Romans 1:16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the POWER of God unto salvation to everyone that BELIEVETH, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Galatians 1:6-9 Though we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that we have preached unto you, LET HIM BE ACCURSED. As we said before, so say I again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received from us, LET HIM BE ACCURSED. Jesus paid it all and we paid 0. You cannot boast in 0. Ephesians 2:8-9. For by grace ye are saved, through FAITH, and that not of yourselves, IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD, NOT OF WORKS, LEST ANY MAN SHOULD BOAST. We only have to believe it one time to be saved forever.

First John 1:8. IF we say we have no sin, we are DECEIVED and the TRUTH is not in us. Jesus died for sinners which we all are. Salvation by grace is apart from any works. Romans 11:6. Saved by a one time faith alone in Jesus alone apart from works. Romans 4:5. Colossians 2:13. He has forgiven us ALL trespasses. Romans 4:7-8. We can not earn it, and once we have it we can not lose it because it is ETERNAL LIFE. John 10:28-29. Hebrews 13:5 For He hath said, I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU OR FORSAKE YOU. I WILL NEVER CAST YOU OUT. Gods promises to us. Galatians 2:21. I do not void the grace of God, for if RIGHTEOUSNESS come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. Jesus fulfilled the law for us so He could give us His perfect righteousness. Romans 4:5-6. John 3:16. See all you WHOSOEVERS in heaven. We have Gods word on it.

@@According_To_Matt It is not our righteousness, it is His perfect righteousness. Romans 4:5. But to him that worketh not, but BELIEVETH on Him that justifieth the UNGODLY, his faith is counted for righteousness. Romans 4:6. Just as David describeth the blessedness of the man to whom the Lord IMPUTET righteousness, APART FROM WORKS. Romans 4:7-8. Blessed is the man whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not IMPUTE sin. Jesus paid our sin debt in full on the cross. He took the punishment we deserve. John 3:18. First John 5:13. These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God, APART FROM ANY WORKS, THAT YE MAY KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. Romans 5:19-21 Where sin abounds, grace much more abounds. Colossians 2:13. He has forgiven us ALL trespasses. First John 2:2. Romans 1:16. Romans 11:6. Romans 6:23. The GIFT of God is ETERNAL LIFE. We still have our sinful nature till we die and receive our new sinless bodies at the resurrection. For now it is only our soul/spirit that is saved. Not the flesh. Romans 6:23. We all die because of sin, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus finished work on the cross. He did not know them because they were trusting in what they did, instead of what Jesus did for us. They never did the will of His Father in Heaven. John 6:40 and John 6:29. John 6:28-29 KJV [28] Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? [29] Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. This man preaches work salvation. Jesus preached BELIEVE! Matthew 7:21-23 KJV [21] Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. [22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? [23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. All these people done wonderful WORKS why didn’t they get to enter the kingdom? Because they wasn’t doing the will of the father! What’s the will of the father?? John 6:39-40 KJV [39] And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. [40] And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. They we’re focusing on what THEY were doing, not what the LORD did for them. They were relying on their own righteousness instead of the righteousness of of christ! You can’t work your way to heaven and you dang sure can’t stop sinning! You will sin less but you won’t be sinless! Until you get your glorified body!

@@chrisdavidson3827 you are completely wrong. John 2:23-25. Repentance and God regenerating you is evidence that Jesus dwells inside of you produces works (fruit) a radical change of behavior. The works are not yours but made possible by the triune God living inside you. Doings works on your strength is worthless. You say these professing Christians were going to hell because they were focused on what they were doing. Matthew 7 in context is about “False teachers” who teach a false gospel of works salvation. Jesus said is the door. Straight is the gate and narrow is the way ( it through faith in Christ alone, not by works of righteousness which we have done Titus 3:5.) Note Jesus said I never knew you…… because their focus was on what they had done for The Lord, not what The Lord requires, which is to believe. John 6:28-29 (KJV) 28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. Matthew 7:13-23 (KJV) 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither [can] a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

This passage has nothing to do with false converts. If you read the entire sermon on the mount, in it's context, Jesus is condemning people who refuse to follow him. They don't need him because of their own righteousness.

It’s not about what YOU DO by your own will but rather how you become by resting in the bestowed glorious gift of faith in Christ giving us freedom from the law. By following this misreading of this passage you are not doing God's will in relation to Jesus Christ, because you are misinterpreting the law as the Scribes and Pharisees did (5:21-7:6), using it to establish your own righteousness instead of looking to the exceeding righteousness of Christ (5:20). Self-righteousness cannot save a person. Those in the passage are not claiming to have believed in Christ for His righteousness. Unsaved people need a righteousness outside of themselves and their own good works, which can never meet God's perfect standard. Only Christ's righteousness obtained through faith in Jesus Christ satisfies God's righteous requirements. This passage cannot be used to say that those who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior are not saved unless they also submit to His lordship. That is exactly what the passage is NOT saying. There is no indication that this group has believed in Jesus as their Savior from sin, yet there is every indication that they have believed and submitted to Him as Lord of their lives. The reason they are not saved is that they have not done the Father's will - believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior from sin who imputes His righteousness. Many professors of Christianity have a false security because they are looking at and trusting in their submission and their works instead of resting fully in the merit of Christ and His work on their behalf. You cannot not trust in our own conscience led “works of righteousness” to do the will of the Father ....only Jesus as the Narrow Way can fulfill the will of His Father. We must only fully receive and truly trust Christ’s gift of bestowed righteousness...only the authentic fruit of a joyfully free servant will act without sin consciousness and authenticity...thereby falling into harmonious obedience. If you are driven by fear to “manage your sin”...like this “lordship preacher” is imploring you to do here....then you are in fact being lawless and apart from Christ as you are trusting in your own fear driven efforts and not His finished work. Joyful alignment to Christ who is alive in our hearts will keep us on the narrow path...fear does not dwell where there is Light.

At the beginning of the sermon, he describes someone who confesses they believe, live out their faith, and sincerely believes in his confession and yet gets sent to hell because they didn't get converted, despite all that. At the end, he quotes the verses that all you have to do is believe, and those who sincerely seek will not be turned away. Calvanism makes 0 sense.

@@BarbershopReviews because instead of pointing you to Christ and his work for you, he tells you to look at yourself and your “fruit” or “changed life” which is pretty subjective and causes people to doubt their salvation.
