Right, it doesn’t have to apply to superstitious things like that, as someone who isn’t very superstitious. But I think the lesson still applies to events he was talking about like losing a job or a relationship.

You're stuck. If you say "it means nothing", in your choice you've determined that this is not the sort of thing to which you would ascribe meaning. Now, let's expand our view a bit. You continue on with your life, and maybe you go to your car. You pull on the handle to the door (indicating meaning accepted for door handle interface), push the start button on the dash (another meaning) after putting on your seatbelt (I think you see where this is going). My point is this: The points in your life where you stop to think, and perhaps alter direction or way in which you will interface with the objects and people in the world are likely to be places in which you've accepted a "meaning making event". These can range from the very serious -- [There is a car in my blindspot as I drive 70kph on the highway. This means that if I don't take care to address the situation, a lane change could be dangerous.] to the so superstitious it will seem silly [I found a gum wrapper in my pocket of the type my grandmother used to give me, so this means my grandmother's spirit is with me today and guiding me.] To me, seeing this video about the domino has three meanings, maybe four. One is on the metalevel, another borders on paranoia, another is direct, another is a suggestion to amend a previously assigned meaning. I don't think I will talk about that here. Insert old Steve Rogers wistfully looking into the sunset here. One more thing. The places you choose to attend to meaning and the places where you don't go some way to determining your identity. By this I intend that our attention to how we attend to the world gives rise to how we show up in the world for ourselves and others. If you attend deeply, you will recognize that negation or dismissal of potential meaning-making events, the refusal of an invitation towards meaning making events, the attention towards some meanining making even in spite of signals indicating another is of higher priority, and the rigidity with which we hang on to meanings gleaned from meaning making events determine to a great extent what kind of life we will have. The following is a little thought that may assist you in what I've just expressed: Earlier I used the example of a car in a blindspot being a potential danger. Consider what I've chosen here -- a danger recognized lurking just out of sight. Now consider what it may be to think a little deeply about such a danger. You may think about how the driver of the vehicle you've noticed is trucking along at 70kph, but does not recognize that their presence there is a potential danger. If we make the leap to see that there are times when we ourselves are "trucking along" in life inattentive to high priority meaning making events, we may present dangers to ourselves and others, we may find ways in which we ourselves are "trucking along at 70 kph in someone's blindspot" that may or may not have anything to do with the road, vehicles, or road safety. If I myself take this kind of thing seriously at all, I will do the work to see that the four potential meanings I've ascribed to the finding of this video has a mirror-image in the form of how those meanings may show up for the other who might have grasped this previously and may grasp this at some future date. The world becomes richer with this kind of thinking, even if the meanings grasped are incorrectly ascribed for the time being.

@@UnboxableKings Sure, but then that implies that everything has meaning. Then you would have to define an event also, since anything could be an event. What is the meaning of this molecule moving a few inches? Also, if your argument is that you can assign the meaning you want to anything, then just skip the event/thing, you are assigning meaning to and just do whatever you wanna do. You don't need an excuse for that. For example, "Oh, I found this dead mouse, this means I should take care of my health". You can just take care of your health and ignore this meaning crap. It's like you are advocating for reactivity rather than proactivity.
